Every day it’s a new terrible story and then I wake up the next day and nothing ever happens.

It has fucked with my psyche so much. Like what is the point of anything if clearly there are no consequences to this admins atrocities.

The US people need to bring about those consequences. The US has long been a spineless country, but its people can remember they are giants.

ImmaAcorn Apr 15, 2026 +89
Easier said than done, most people here are just trying to make to the end of the week, let alone organize into some sort of quasi-legal effort to try and overthrow a president who has been shown to be willing to use lethal force on his citizens
89
_Svankensen_ Apr 15, 2026 +59
Look at any of the few labor rights you still have in the US. Those were wrangled out of the hands of the powers that be by people living under far worse conditions than you face now.
59
Crow_away_cawcaw Apr 15, 2026 +65
People forget that the robber barons were shooting union organizers in broad daylight, with the backing of the state. Organizing has always been life or death. I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to die, but we should give credit to those who came before us for the rights we enjoy - they paid an enormous price.

badpuffthaikitty Apr 15, 2026 +13
I read a Listnook post. Someone was worried about being fired for not praying with the group. Right to work state? Yup not praying is a fireable action.

This is why not a single person I work with knows that I'm an Atheist. I live in the "Bible Belt" in a right to work state so yeah...
2
kangkingkong3 Apr 15, 2026 +8
The vast majority of rights as we know them today were written in blood.

-beautiful-cats- Apr 15, 2026 +5
That's it though. We fought for what we have, but people don't know the history so they don't understand. I'm sad to say it, but things will have to get a lot worse for a lot more people before they will join the fight to take back what's rightfully ours.

Americans have always been individualist head down, mind your own business, make your money. for most of them politics feels like someone else's job until it's on their front door, and sometimes not even then.
13
LMA73 Apr 15, 2026 +4
Mind your own business? You have done nothing but wage war with anyone who has disagreed with you or who has had e.g. oil or other riches that you so crave...
4
Jazzycoyote Apr 15, 2026 +5
By mind your own business, I assume they mean to not worry about anything that doesn't directly affect you or people close to you, which is true. American individualism is a rotten set of roots to a toxic tree.
5
NecroCannon Apr 15, 2026 +2
Shh, they don’t like hearing that The reality is that “white” America is conservative at its core and it doesn’t matter what you have to say if you’re still stressing to uphold what you’ve been told to live like to be “successful” in this country. Everyone has been fed propaganda to crave safety and security growing up, you own property, you have wealth, you have a picture perfect family, and you’ll die happy and successful. And minorities deal with that ripped away from them and they cry out, but suddenly people “listen” when it affects most people. And people are so ignorant to how well they diverted that core of the issue, so you question why minorities, especially Hispanic people, vote for Trump when they were sold the same lie most are raised on. Then you have outside forces that see it, can manipulate it, by doing shit like releasing black US PoW and not white ones, just because they know it’ll cause a meltdown with the US public. Oh and, you know why the right fears PoC leaders so much? It’s because they *know* the true colors of this country, if they’re not bought, they’re not raised to believe in “white” America. So they’re all kinds of evil things somehow if you haven’t noticed, because the US’s culture strategy is just demonizing anything close to what topples white elites. So it’s funny seeing Americans say that that’s not true, when outsiders see it and have been mocking it throughout history, when conservatives constantly succeed at diverting attention by blowing up PoC discussions and making them lose their initial meaning. So many Americans still play into their hands that it’s crazy, a world crafted assuring that they’re the good guys for just saying something is wrong, while in mine I have to live my life proving myself otherwise I’m automatically a dumbass thug. I’m calling this era the “Great Humbling”, because how in the hell can the ground be cracking under your feet when the “different” people screamed about it, and the main concern is still going home and being comfortable and safe being harder to do?
2
MonsterRider80 Apr 15, 2026 +3
I stopped agreeing with you after individualist.
3
chuffberry Apr 15, 2026 +12
Right, it’s like a Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs thing. It’s really hard to overthrow the tyrannical government when you’re working two full time jobs to try to afford your child’s prescription medication.
12
AzureRaven2 Apr 15, 2026 +14
Which is unfortunately by design. But there's only so far you can push people down that road.
14
Jeo_1 Apr 15, 2026 +5
Honestly, all it would take is building an organization that channels donations into actually challenging the power structures in the U.S. You’d fund workers who walk out over low wages and strike, like Amazon warehouse employees. Hurt them in the wallet until something changes and give the people their security.  Support politicians who genuinely represent people’s interests. Back companies that treat people properly, and invest in media that brings real awareness to these issues. There’s an entire generation with massive influence, and they’re all online and majority of them choose inaction for illusionary stability.
5
Recursive_Descent Apr 18, 2026 +2
Ridiculous. If anything it is the opposite. People are too comfortable to risk their lives on a revolution.
2
JessLovesNaps Apr 15, 2026 +5
I’m not disagreeing but the U.S. government has dropped bombs on its own citizens for asking for better working conditions. (Such as the Blair Mountain rebellion.) We live inside a violent military machine. This is not an excuse, it’s just a little context.
5

I've come to understand that for a long time, I've been waiting for the collapse. The tension, anxiety, confusion, and unease I feel have been mounting since 2016, and in the last year or so it's just reached a fever pitch. I find myself thinking "let's just get it over with". I find it hard to concentrate or work towards long term goals because subconsciously I don't believe long term goals are achievable. It's so toxic and unhealthy. I want to unplug completely from everything but I'm too afraid that I'll miss the moment it all caves in. Seriously the last time I swore off the news was Jan 1 2020. That new year's resolution lasted less than a week My rational brain says there will never be "a moment". It will just be a slow decline into corruption, greed, wealth inequality, backsliding civil liberties, food insecurity, civil unrest, etc all set on a backdrop of a warning, dying planet. I'm just tired

ForTheLoveOfZombies Apr 16, 2026 +2
100% and the worst part is I felt like a conspiracy theorist when I would talk to friends or family about project 2025 (before the election) and when I try to go in depth about how it all is making me feel mentally I get a “focus on yourself cuz you can’t control what happens”. Like huh? But present time people are just as outraged and I’m just numb to it all now.

The Devil has always been old. That's what the Bible says, and Satan has tried doing exactly what you just said. His goal is do this with Jesus, but Jesus is never on the same page. The problem Satan has is with God, we are just a casualty of being inbetween that, he believes we / Jesus can help him do that, but most of us always say no. As we should. He is always depicted as a very old man. (Although he is not actually a man). Just pretending to be. Satan was the Old Angel, Christ is the New Son. When you think the word "Old" it does not mean what you think it does for such creatures that are millions of years old. To Satan, the oldest of us would still be a child. It's Jesus that would see it more like me and you do.

It has always chafed me that as evil as they were/are—Hitler liked painting, Kim Jong Un loves basketball—even other diabolical people had other interests that at least occasionally took their mind off themselves or hurting other people. Trump literally likes Nothing more than watching himself on tv and ruining people’s lives. I’m not counting golf since he uses even that to cheat and feed his ego and also maybe dabble in a little blackmail along the way Lindsay Graham and others: we saw you criticize Trump before hitting the links. We have receipts!

Trump is very impulsive. Sadly he has no self control. I have a feeling the strategy of Venezuela, Cuba and Iran is more Rubio than Trump.
74
RoswellRedux Apr 14, 2026 +35
Nah. Bibi whispered into one of the most stupid ears on the planet, and its owner, Trump, stupidly jumped into an aggressive war with Iran, without a plan or objective. While I believe it was all at Bibi's increasingly desperate urging, it was not impulsive, as Trump did some preemptive work shoring up an additional oil supply. Rubio is definitely the architect for the Cuba objectives, and maybe Venezuela, but more likely it was Trump, wanting a margin of comfort of having an oil windfall prior to attacking an oil exporter like Iran.
35
mfmfhgak Apr 14, 2026 +8
Yeah, Trump wanted to attack Iran and was already gearing up to do it as soon as the carrier group left the South China Sea in January. Bibi just seized on the opportunity to get what he wanted.

Interestingly enough the Pope at the time (Pius XII) didn't attack Hitler, or Mussolini either. No. Difference is Cobert makes up bullshit. He is absolute grifter. Hitler made a shit ton of direct criticism and slander of Pope, Christianity and Vatican and how entire religion worked. Trump's little tantrum is nothing compared to those... Hitler's views turned to very extreme opposing of christianity and pope. From Alan Bullock's book: ''In Hitler's eyes, Christianity was a religion fit only for slaves; he detested its ethics in particular. Its teaching, he declared, was a rebellion against the natural law of selection by struggle and the survival of the fittest.''

VANCE backed him up and VANCE IS CATHOLIC. "Stick to morality" Vance said. Wishing for peace and condemning mass murder IS sticking with morality, but no one in the Trump administration would recognize morality if it sat on their faces. It's gross that Trump only sees the population of the world as supporters to be used or enemies to be attacked. It's what gets us into unnecessary wars in highly complex areas of the world with no allies to support us because he spends half his time pissing on them if they don't declare him king of the world.
3

The next thing you know Trump is going to claim that the conclave to elect the pope was rigged. It took place in the Vatican and immigrant cardinals were allowed to vote! This is an outrage! Cardinals should have to show proof that they are Vatican citizens or not be allowed to cast a ballot.

Strangely, this reminds me of that time John Lennon said the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. That led to boycotts, protests and record burnings and outrage in the United States. Irony: England just ignored it. Apparently, it was a major factor in the Beatles' decision to discontinue live tours, and may have been a motivation of Lennon's murderer. Lennon's statement was crass and foolish, but Trump's narcissism is on a whole new level.

Trump picked a fight with someone so reverred and he's jealous of it, but he will never have what the pope has, and every little attack on the pope will doom him even further. He has lost this, but his ego won't let him stand down. It is sweet to see. Trump will hear demands for an apology, and he will be incapable of giving a sincere one. He's lost already.

Both Hitler and Mussolini were Catholics, or at least raised such. Trump, by contrast, is not a Catholic, nor is he even a Christian. There's considerable evidence that, like Putin, he's a Lubavitcher.

Not that I disagree that he needs to be called out but the headline language is so f****** annoying. The story is basically “Trump Critic Criticizes Trump”. I feel like backlash is when someone’s supporters turn on them, not when the opposed continue to oppose. Maybe I’m wrong.

I mean… I’m fine in general with open criticism of the pope, always and forever amen, but when it comes to Trump, I stand by the pope.

The biggest imbecile and most hated man on the planet, what a complete tool and the damage he has done the US will never be undone.

Those guys needed the church’s support to take power. I guess trump doesn’t think he does.

Pretty sure Hitler or Mussolini also didn't r*** kids at a private island getaway with their friends either. I can't believe those two are looking like the lesser of two evils these days.

Most people when they do something so bad as to piss off the Pope, feel at least a little embarrassed and don’t sass back to the Pope. But we have a new generation of low life’s leaders in this country who have no respect for anyone or anything.

In 1933, almost 40% of Germany’s population was Roman Catholic. In July 1933, Hitler and Pope Pius XI signed a concordat, or treaty. the Vatican’s sense that Mussolini and Hitler were indispensable bulwarks against Bolshevism.

He is such a f****** wanker. Him Vance all of those dip shits. I’ve never dreamed that someone would be able to destroy this country so quickly. Look at our military? A few years ago, they were the most professional in the world. Now everything that they do is just an absolute disorganized unprofessional cluster f***. It’s embarrassing.

At this point, comparing Hitler and Mussolini to Trump is not fair to the WW2 leaders.

Trump is an asshat, but Colbert's quip is pretty dopey. We don't need Hilter and Mussolini to make Donald Trump look bad. Try harder Mr. Colbert!
