"Feet on the ground" was the term coined by Sir Robert Thompson in 66 about the Vietnam war.

It's been used ever since.

It does seem pretty sad that even on a global scale, politicians aren't really talking about things getting better as much anymore. Even when they do talk about improvements, its at the expense of other people. Like I feel like not too long ago there was at least a veneer of wanting to improve things. The only current politicians that come to mind are ukraine and the new NYC mayor, and maybe some EU politicians or like Carney in Canada seems like he's at least trying. But yeah these last 10-20 years feel like a significant decline in... hope, I guess. I'm not sure what other word to use.

There was supposedly a deadline for Friday for Iran to fully open the strait, or else the US would start bombing their power plants.
I think Trump will Taco and say that the "present" of Iran allowing 10 Pakistani ships through shows that significant progress is being made. Though Iran already said it would let ships through from countries that weren't the US or Israel or supporting them in the war.
280
GolotasDiscipleMar 26, 2026

Well, Trump and the USA would carpet-bomb Iran already if they could... it is the USA after all. But if Iran's threat of destroying desalination infrastructure is true, then the Gulf states are basically walking a thin line of proper implosion, and we would probably see one of the biggest modern humanitarian crises that would resolve in insane amount of deaths and massive exodus of general population.
At the end of the day, Iran has nothing to lose. From their perspective, it does not matter whether they give up or fight... I mean, we do not even know what the American and Israeli demands are other than nuclear bombs, which apparently they are not trying to create, but also want to create according to Israel... and now it's not about the Nuclear Capabilities it's a bout Piece of Land/Water that they control....
Iran is by no means the good guy here, but I am flabbergasted by how docile and brainwashed Americans are. They are being screwed on literally every front, the legal and justice system is compromised, the police are compromised, and politicians would rather play on Polymarket than do their job.
Literally one of the very few countries that built a doctrine based on the principle of freedom and civilian self-armament, yet they simply do not care. It is all just business... Like, Europe has always kind of been a bit of a shitfest when it comes to uprisings, wars, and massive protests... but honestly, I prefer that over whatever USA "culture" is.
At this stage, American and Russian citizens are about the same: "I cannot do anything," "not my fault."

For me that writing was on the wall with the American Political Cult of Personality antics. This is not just about flags, either. I’m German, we dont really like to swing our flags around, for historical and factual reasons (why would you need to wave a German flag in Germany? Youre in… Germany).
If we imagine a German Election Campaign where people would wear Shirts with Friedrich Merz‘s Likeness running on stage with „Friedrich Merz“ Basecaps screaming „WE LOVE YOU!“, youd get declared medically insane. This is such a glaringly massive overstep in how we approach politics, it might well not even be on the same plane.
The thing is though, there’s a reason why we are doing politics the way we do. AfD-Idiots excepted (and guess who they’re allied with), we are painfully aware of the fact that politicians should be sober and „boring“ public servants and nothing more.

>think Trump will Taco
And then what?
There are two solutions here:
1. The US and Israel fully commit to a multi-trillion dollar ground war that will likely take years/decades to remove the existing the regime and prop up a new one
2. The US pays Iran monetary reparations for all the damage they did, acknowledges them as the sole sovereign country in control of the Strait of Hormuz, backs off militarily (including forcing Israel out of Lebanon) and lifts sanctions, i.e. a new status quo that objectively leaves the US and Israel weaker than they were before the war started.
There isn't really anything to TACO out of here because Iran holds all the cards.
15
rabidstoatMar 26, 2026
+34
Trump declared mission success, says that the strait is not his problem, and the US presence leaves.
Will Iran keep bombing? Sure, but they can't reach the US mainland.
Will it piss off our Gulf allies if we leave them hanging after making the mess? Sure, but Trump apparently isn't bothered by treating allies like shit and also apparently doesn't care about long-term consequences of doing so. He's done this with other countries.
Will oil go up and US gas prices go up and US inflation go up? Yes, but Trump will claim it's everyone's fault but his own.
Will Americans believe him and continue to vote for him and Republicans? Some will. Some won't. Hopefully enough won't.

Trump can't wash his hands of this just by backing off, because Iran can and likely will continue to launch whatever missiles it has at US bases in the area and obviously at Israeli interests. Trump has to deal, but thats okay because he's a genius. Apparently.

No matter what he does, the damage is done. It will take a decade to recover from the damage to oil infrastructure in the Middle East. Buckle up and don’t make any large purchases. It’s about to get rough for the entire world. Elect a Felon to make critical decisions, and this is what you’ll get.

Donald Trump has already unleashed hell across the entire planet and we're all suffering because of this narcissist.
Like what is your major f****** malfunction, conservatives? What in the name of God do you see in this man besides fulfilling your selfish apocalypse fantasy of the end f****** times.
Which is exactly why no evangelical sees any problem in any of this.
They have been waiting for this shit for decades and are now salivating end times "prophecy" is being fulfilled.
Little do they know they worship the f****** antichrist.
