Pretty sure I remember this quote from the bible:
“And lo, the wise man did approach the place of fuel, and beheld the price thereof was grievous in his sight.
And he turned away, saying, ‘Let not thy purse be made desolate for the sake of the chariot’s hunger; for wisdom is greater than haste, and he who seeketh a fair price shall not be brought low.’”

*Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.*
*Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”*
*They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into high-octane gasoline. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.*

Not only DT. But the current MAGA Republican platform. All of these "Anti-trans" people as well. The Jesus that I grew up believing in at the time, would have protected the most vulnerable of our people. Our migrants, our POC, our LGBTQ (including the 'T'!!!!), our people who are being attacked by the media and in the streets (and for some, their churches or homes). Jesus would be appalled at the people claiming 'empathy' is actually bad while wearing the cross around their necks. This is something I’ve thought about a lot. The most “traditional” of Christians consider themselves to be conservative, ever further right. Researching into the founding of Christianity, I’ve found that the Bible was constructed for deeply patriarchal and political reasons, with doctrines based more heavily on Paul’s letters than on Jesus himself.
Liberation-theology and other forms of Christianity which actually put Jesus first are far more ideologically-aligned with the majority of atheists and neo-pagans. I’ve seen polls ask Christians and non-Christians whether they think a modern Jesus would vote Republican or Democrat, and it’s pretty split down the middle. So many ex-Christians have left the church behind because the most powerful and influential people within Christian systems encourage zealotry over love.
Western society is fundamentally Christian, and “holy” is meant to be symbolically synonymous with “good,” but the doctrines are more about maintaining social order than about caring for the oppressed. It’s taken over as a predominant religion around the world because of imperialism and cultural-genocide, not spiritual truth or compassion.
The question of whether Christianity more fundamentally “belongs” to one side or the other can be reframed with the question of what its global leaders support—in this case, the Pope still won’t defend or support trans people, even as out rights are taken away and we’re being scapegoated in the US, for example. Trans people were also killed en masse during the holocaust, yet it’s treated like a new social phenomenon that they don’t know how to address. The Vatican supported fascism during WWII, and they haven’t progressed nearly enough to avoid condoning systematic oppression in the modern day.
Trying to remove the “Christianity” from Western religion and culture through reading Greek philosophy and western esotericism has been an ongoing exercise, but an enlightening one.

When we're talking about trans people, let's consider what Jesus said about those who have surgery to change their genitals:
> *For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.*
Compare that to what Jesus said about gay people:

I'm not sure where the disconnect is between us. Jesus said nothing negative about gay people, and he spoke highly of eunuchs. That's not the same concept as what we call trans people today, but it's probably as close as you're gonna get for a 1st century Judean.
Personally, I find Jesus' views to be quite archaic and not authoritative in any way, but I find it sad that those who profess to follow him often have no idea what he actually said.
As for protecting gay and trans people (and plenty of others) from persecution, I'm right there with you.

I graduated from a Catholic university and was taught that this is where your faith comes in...you have faith that the Bible is a holy document that was recorded correctly by those mentioned in its pages. Many choose to twist its words and pick and choose passages to "modernize" their intent to suit their agenda, but those who believe the words contained therein are many, all across this formerly great country.
I am no longer Catholic; however, because I cannot abide by the coverup and actions regarding the massive child sexual abuse history of some of the perverts accepted, promoted, and moved around by the church. I DO; however, remember the teachings so ingrained about the Good Samaritan, helping others and the hymn I heard so many Sundays, "Whatsoever You Do, to the Least of My Brothers...That You Do Unto Me". There are many "least brothers" being absolutely SHIT upon right now by fake "Christians". Call them out when you see them.
Vance is a new Catholic. Maybe that hymn was before his time.
Sooo many of these crucifix-wearing, self-proclaimed "christians" today are nothing of the sort. They would do well to study the biblical passages about Jesus flipping tables of the money changers in the temple, too.

Evangelicals don’t really care about breaking the Ten Commandments and sinning. The way they teach sin is extremely twisted — basically creates a permission structure for sinning so long as you say you repent. It’s all part of the “everyone is a sinner and we are bound to inevitably sin because sin is what makes us human and less than God.”
So nothing that Trump does matters because “we all live in sin” or something. Not sure if this is the case for Catholics and other groups of Christians, but it’s a sentiment I have personally seen in Baptist, Southern Baptist, and some non-denominational evangelical churches.

Matthew 22:36-40

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Eh, not exactly. Any religion could be used this way. Christianity is just being used this way in the United States because the United States has Christian roots.
Christianity doesn't function this way in the rest of the world and can actually be pretty radical; liberation theology is pretty cool.
Pointing fingers at religion misses that capitalists in the US have mobilized religion towards their ends over her past century; that's the root issue. Fully 1/4 of Christian pastors in the US in 1900 identified as socialist.
I'm not Christian anymore but people who blame religion instead of looking deeper just alienate all religious people and make some of them think that far right movements are the only safe option.

>In the prior Fox News poll, conducted February 28 through March 2, 2026, Trump held a narrow edge with Catholics.
In that survey, 52 percent approved and 48 percent disapproved, giving him a net positive rating of 4 points.
Among Catholic voters, 48 percent said they approve of Trump’s job performance, while 52 percent disapprove, a net negative of 4 points.
In the late February and early March poll, Trump’s approval among Protestants was evenly split at 50 percent approve and 50 percent disapprove.
In the newer poll, approval fell to 47 percent, while disapproval rose to 53 percent, producing a net negative rating of 6 points.
So religious people are split about Trump, but there is a slight edge of disapproving of him. That's good.
>In the earlier poll, Trump posted a 60 percent approval rating and 40 percent disapproval, a net positive of 20 points.
By late March, approval among white evangelicals increased to 64 percent, with disapproval dropping to 36 percent, widening his net approval to 28 points.

Evangelicals believe attacking Iran somehow helps bring about "end times" which will lead to the "rapture". Also, they believe supporting Israel is central to Christianity, especially in "end times", so the United States supporting Israel somehow makes the United States an extension of Israel. They are in a death cult where they believe non-believers will die/suffer while they get whisked to heaven.

Catholics really tanked for the prosperity deal the minute they became accepted by Protestants as non-minority. No way Trump happens without that switch.

There are a lot of different types of people who self-identify as "Christian", ranging from kindhearted folks who follow the Golden Rule, to monstrous racist weirdos looking forward to the Rapture in their lifetime.
And everything in-between. There's unfortunately lots of room in there for pedophiles, rapists, and bigots. Religion and faith are so malleable and ill-defined that it's a refuge for incoherent and hateful ideologies.

It’s a significant reason it’s the most popular religion in the world. Since it was founded by others about a person and not by that person, anyone can decide what’s important. Has been this way from the start. There’s something for everyone and every perspective.

This is why Talarico is getting such vitriolic hatred from the fake Christians
It exposes them, trump and the entire GOP as being the most anti-christian people imaginable in human history
He is unassailable and undeniable and he is showing that liberal (big L) progressive values overlap with *actual* Christian values as taught in the bible
He is incredibly dangerous to them and the GOP that have co-opted the Christian Religion and warped it toward evil
Im not a fan of any religion but you wont find any of the ahit the GOP does in the new testament

Once again, Christians are going to be dragged through history holding onto the most abhorrent views, all the while claiming the moral high ground.
As a former Christian who’s whole belief system collapsed when the church as a system couldn’t read trumps playbook (and/or, when I was immediately able to read their support of white Christian nationalism as a power play), I absolutely do not care that Christians are starting to stop supporting him. Too little too late.

I can understand that, too. But in any situation where you are receiving information/instruction (church, school, a seminar, what-have-you) it is really up to each person there if they are going to internalize it and apply it to their life. Unfortunately, it sounds like in your church (and many others) there are people not absorbing and internalizing. It is frustrating, but it doesn't mean that you or your dad or others have to be the same.

Christians supporting Trump is the most anti Christian aspect of the whole MAGA " movement "
There is not a single quality in Trump that is Christian. For one he is a billionaire. Christians need to perhaps reread what Jesus says about rich people going to heaven. He is a criminal, convicted of felonies in court. He is incredibly egotistical and self righteous. He is angry and bitter and publicly states how he hates over half of his own countries citizens. He still to this day won't ever admit to doing anything wrong and once said in an interview how he never even considered asking for forgiveness because he feels he doesn't need to.
On and on and on and on. Without even going into the Epstein shit or his constant lying or his 26 sexual assault cases against him from various women or or or and and and.
He is the least Christian politician I've ever seen, yet MAGA tries to raise him up as some sort of saint. It's the biggest advertisement against their state of mind

2
BrianWonderfulMar 29, 2026

Following the teachings of Christ. It involves putting your faith in Jesus and accepting he died for our sins. Then leading a Christ-like life which includes treating others with love and service.
3
ZacPensolMar 29, 2026
+2
People really don't focus enough on that last part. A core tenet of being a saved Christian is dedicating yourself to leading a Christ-like life. It takes nothing to claim that you are a Christian and unlike claiming you're a bowl of spaghetti it's not really something another person can easily disprove, thus a lot more people claim - and perhaps even think of - themselves as real Christians when truly they are just in Club Jesus and trying to get the member benefits.
2
schu4KSUMar 29, 2026

The Official White House YouTube State Of The Union pre-show screen had a graphic of DJT with his hand on The Bible, but he didn't actually put his hand on The Bible when he was sworn in in real life. [https://images.gr-assets.com/photos/1771995567p8/4467010.jpg](https://images.gr-assets.com/photos/1771995567p8/4467010.jpg) feel free to share if you think it's useful.
Imagine a rational person who thinks bombing a school of children in any language is a bad idea. If you ask this question to older people who still think DJT is, "keeping Americans safe" their rationale is that they are radical Islamists. There are 93 million people in Iran. WTF??
You have to continue to ask Christian Conservatives how could DJT be annointed by Jesus if he didn't even make the minimal effort to put his hand on a really cool Abraham Lincoln Bible when he pledged to uphold The Constitution?
