Fifth time they're telling this same story 😮‍💨

Just wait for the new game so you can fight Raditz in the first 5 min for the 100th time.

In the new one you can straight up just beat him as Goku without dying if you do well enough.

Dude has been beat up more than almost any other video game character at this point

This is my biggest problem with Dragon Ball games, and I've been down voted to oblivion for sharing it. I will never play another Dragon Ball that just retells the story of Z. Won't do it. Couldn't f****** pay me to do. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of Dragon Ball games covering the same narrative ground again and again, and again, and again....
1
Realshotgg 5 days ago +40
Dragonball fans are one of the most complacent fan bases in existence. They retell the same stories, same games, same everything with a slightly different coat of paint and they eat that slop up.

I feel like watching the series reset from the beginning every few weeks because the localizers couldn't keep up with the daily schedule of TV broadcasters is probably to blame. I can't count the number of times I'd get home from school, excited to see Freiza/the Androids/Cell/Buu get beat up, only to go right back to Raditz beating up Piccolo.

Didn't the reruns stop after they finally got the rights to move past the Recoome fight? By the android saga, it was a "new" episode every week. And thats only in the US. I saw Trunks go SS Grade 3 on Telemundo when he had just showed up on Toonami.

Not 'rights', but getting a non union and cheaper team for the voices.

its_justme 3 days ago +1
Haha classic YTV moments as a kid. Also we had our own Canadian DBZ opening that was superior. Also the dubs and music were insane (insaiyan) for the first couple sagas before Funimation took over.

And then there are the purists who go along with what is called canon regardless of how bad it is or how much it retcons
5
Leshawkcomics 5 days ago +3
I always loved dragon ball because it's never been afraid to say that the characters can make mistakes or be straight up wrong or misinformed about something that's fully explained later. And a lot of times, that misinformation is both something that makes sense for them to assume, but also something that the truth becomes obvious on the second reading if you pay attention. Like there was a scene where piccolo hears 17 and 18 knew they had senzu beans and still let them live and assumes they did it out of some smug power play. And he's right to think that, almost every threat they've faced is the kind of person to do that. But no, they just.. Aren't actually evil to begin with. And a lot of retcons are just characters learning new information.
3
babruflat 5 days ago +2
Oh I'm mostly referring to how Daima is apparently canon even though it takes place before Super and the characters then inexplicably forget new forms. And also because it's bad lol All of this coming from a place of love for the OG run from a dude with a Shenron arm sleeve tattoo
2
AquariusSabotage 5 days ago +2
Dang, I liked Daima, but there's also a special place in my heart for the first half (kid Goku) of Dragonball.

Already seeing them hype up Xenoverse 3 as "the greatest game ever" on twitter. They honestly deserve to get swindled at this point tbh.

As a Dragon Ball fan, I'll tell you this, we are starved for content. It's been 8 years since the anime was on air and we will take anything at this point. Daima was cool but it didn't fill the gap left by Super. Since they have already announced the new arc adaptation we can watch this while waiting for the new series. Also it would be interesting to see what changes they do to the story. New fight animation wouldn't hurt either.

"As a Dragon Ball fan, I'll tell you this, we are starved for content. " F*** I know, really wanted to see a continuation of the God arc.....

I think the idea with this release is to redo the first arc, not the whole show. The reason they're doing it is that when DB Super originally came out it had some INCREDIBLY rough animation at points; every week people would criticize it and joke about it and find the worst sequences and frames to meme on. Eventually the studio basically came out and said they were embarrassed about it and would work to remedy the issues going forward and they did but those old episodes were still the way they were. This is them redoing all the animation to fix that.

I mean from the 90's to early 2010 we basically just recycled a million iterations of Saiyan through Buu arcs
6
Coolman_Rosso 5 days ago +1
Hell GT is basically one-third original Dragonball (to the point where Cartoon Network skipped all of the Black Star saga to get right to the Baby Saga, as original DB didn't rate as well as DBZ), and then two-thirds repurposing Frieza and Buu Sagas. I don't even hate GT, but it's pretty apparent.
1
Small-Strawberry-646 5 days ago +1
Not sure about you, but pretty hard to come out with new material when the creator is DEAD....lol
1
mmatt0904 5 days ago +24
Looks like they're doing RoF too. Wonder if this means they're re-doing just the visuals or also to match the manga more accurately
24
snickittyboopbop 5 days ago +14
From what I understand, they're making it match the manga so the anime flows seamlessly into the Moro arc adaptation
14
thickwonga 5 days ago +10
I hope they're willing to make changes when needed. The Super manga is just as bad as the Super anime, just for different reasons. There's a lot they could change. IMO, they should keep Future Trunks in our timeline after the Zamasu saga.

darklightmatter 5 days ago +1
An actual sane fan, incredible. Everyone else insists the manga is flawless, that everything from the manga should be adapted to the anime 1:1, etc. Now the actual differences might be where our opinions diverge, but the acknowledgement that the manga's bad at parts and could make do with changes/updates is good enough for me.

ZakTSK 5 days ago +1
They're also making room for Daima
1
Mathemaniac1080 2 days ago +1
They're not. This is gonna be its own thing using anime as the base and adding some manga details. If you've paid attention, you'd notice that this Beerus arc is actually nearly one to one with the original anime, and this second trailer hammers that further
1
MysteryNeighbor 5 days ago +1
From what we’ve seen so far, it is almost a 1:1 adaptation of the original anime run but redrawn and with added effects
1
The_Majestic_ 5 days ago +5
Honestly id be really interested to see of the do a kai version of the tournament of power. So many crowd reaction scenes that just padded for screen time they could pace it so much better if it was 6 - 12 with some modern day animation.

I don’t follow dragonball much anymore, can someone explain this movie? I thought it already released years ago?
4
Affectionate_Owl_619 5 days ago +8
Remember years after DBZ was done they came out with DBZ Kai where they remastered most of it and cut down on the some of the padding? This is that

2
ThinkThankThonk 5 days ago +1
idk but just from a quality perspective, with TYBW out there showing how it could be done Super is like a slap in the face to fans in comparison imo and we know they can do better because Daima exists. Neither of them are my thing story-wise but at least Daima's well made.

At least these 2 arcs (Beerus and RF) will be down to under 12-ish episodes. More than the enhanced scenes and new cut of Super Kai, curious whether this version will have new dubs in Japanese and English respectively?

We got Daima just last year, and we're getting the Moro arc (likely) next year. This is a good thing to have in the meantime.
51
Xero_id 5 days ago +4
They announced Moro arc but we haven't seen any proof yet that I'm aware of. 2027 is unlikely with how slow dbz universe moves, probably see end of one piece first.
4
master6494 5 days ago +9
It was announced to be entering pre-production this January during the Genkidamatsuri. People online are guessing it can be ready late 2027 or early 2028 if it's done right. Taking it slow would be outside the norm, there wasn't even half a year between original Super's announcement and its release, which is why it looked so awful.
9
DaKingaDaNorth 5 days ago +4
And why they are remastering it
4
BlazingStorm42117 5 days ago +1
Because it looked awful and they’re making it more in line with the manga as far as I understand
1
SoylentCreek 4 days ago +2
DB fans will disagree, but I thought Daima was f****** atrocious, and felt like a a filler arc. The last few episodes were pretty sick from an animation standpoint, but I found myself bored out of my mind watching it.
2
EmuMan10 4 days ago +3
There’s been plenty of content and oh right, Toriyama died

90sbeatsandrhymes 5 days ago +4
It’s gonna take a long time to animate Super to the standard it should of been. The Galactic Patrol Arc has been announced. The thing is good animation actually takes a long time.
4
maskedman1231 5 days ago +1
I'm out of the loop, there was the original Super, and then some other thing, and then this? What's the difference?
1
BlazingStorm42117 5 days ago +1
The original super anime occurred a little over a decade ago following after the super manga which were both different from each other plus the super movies which were also different, now they’re remaking the super anime and incorporating more aspects of the manga and maybe even the movie too while also making it look much better than the original super anime looked, from what I understand
1
LikeAPwny 5 days ago +1
Broly, Super Hero, and Daima. All excellent in their own right. But ok.

Forgot about so much, ignoring the obvious we also had things like the super dragon ball heroes anime, content for dragon ball games of all sorts, a little manga material, and probably a few other things while ignoring all the super movies that came out within the time following the anime and even manga

Why can't they just do these things right the first time? Like holy shit this is the third time they've made this series with this specific story. Enhanced visuals / modern animation? You're telling me they couldn't have done this exact same shit 10 years ago?

They announced the Moro ac at the same time they announced this and also just had Daima a little over a year ago.
15
Xero_id 5 days ago -1
So they announced this and Moro arc at same time and all we've seen since is this? I'm sure they're working on new Super episodes but they are well known to be slow and the fact we haven't seen a teaser sine announcement isn't great. Daima was a bs fan service quick show to try and keep fans distracted by the radio silence they had since Super ended.
-1
DaKingaDaNorth 5 days ago +6
They announced it in late January. It's been 3 months. I really don't know what you expect. If you didn't like Daima, that's fine, but it was a full fledged show with a new plot, many new characters, and well done animation
6
IamCentral46 5 days ago +4
Well, DBZ ended 3 decades ago. Of course, we are not getting new episodes. DBS, however....

and they're still using the same bland artstyle. fantastic. TV Super's art is genuinely awful (minus like, the last few episodes of TOP) and I can't believe they're sticking with it for this.
-7
Chillindude82Nein 5 days ago +3
You prefer Superhero's style?
3
GenericGaming 5 days ago +5
I prefer the Broly film style
5
DaKingaDaNorth 5 days ago +4
You aren't going to get movie quality art for a tv show. It took like a year and a half for 100 minutes to be produced.
4
Medd- 5 days ago +1
Just plain wrong. Most of Wano and Onigashima in One Piece was very reminiscent of Broly movie style. With good reason as it they all shared the same director, Tatsuya Nagamine. There's no reason Dragon Ball Super shouldn't look better.
1
GenericGaming 5 days ago
*looks at My Hero Academia season 8, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Demon Slayer* uh huh. high quality animation for one of, if not THE MOST, popular anime is impossible.
0
DaKingaDaNorth 5 days ago +1
Literally no better than what we just got with Daima
1
GenericGaming 5 days ago +2
if you don't think MHA's final season is movie quality animation or think it's the same as Daima, you're just straight up talking out of your ass
2
Medd- 5 days ago +2
Daima doesn't even begin to compare with JJK S3.
2
DaKingaDaNorth 5 days ago -1
You mean a 12 episode season that took 3 years since the prior season to make?
-1
Medd- 5 days ago +3
Don't move the goalpost. Your initial point was that Daima was on par with JJK. Daima was also a cour and was also in production for years by the way.
3
DaKingaDaNorth 5 days ago -1
They are literally just different art styles. Acting like one is inherently better is subjective and in both cases they were very short seasons that took several years of production. Oh.... and both weren't close to the Broly movie, which was the initial ask
