Drops of God on Apple TV+

Posted by jetsbillionaire

Just wanted to drop in an urge people to check this show out. There are two seasons already out, and I'm really hoping for a third but I don't know if man people are watching! The show has incredible acting, gorgeous cinematography and settings, and stakes that feel real and relatable. I won't give much away, but the show centers around wine. Please don't let that deter you - I don't like wine at all but have developed a deeper appreciation for it's utility in culture, science, and it's manufacturing. The series is in English, Japanese, and French, so definitely a show for folks who are ok with subtitles. Ultimately, it's a great drama that explores so much more beyond wine, even if that is a main element. Highly highly reccommend checking this out.

Second season has felt like more of a slog but really liked the first one

Yea the second season is just not up to par with the first… I had to rewind and watch many parts over because I had fallen asleep. Just a boring season and slow pacing.

The second season was bearable up to the point they found out what the wine was. The rest was daytime soap opera with a touch of wine. I don't think there will be a third season, the audience is really small and I bet some dropped it midway season 2.

I kinda liked the second half more than the first. The middle was so boring

Let me guess, it’s blood?

dpman48 Mar 26, 2026 +2
You know, you’re totally wrong. But in a funny way, almost right.
2
ucantoucan Mar 26, 2026 +1
hmm ok now you’ve got me wanting to at least give it a try then. Cause if I could guess that easily I’m not interested Lol

man I couldn't care less about those people from Georgia

schmearcampain Mar 26, 2026 +1
Yeah, I gave up on it after 3-4 episodes. First season was great.

Haven't seen the new season but the first season is imo the best Apple has to offer.

InterWined Mar 25, 2026 +9
I’ve gotta go with Pachinko for Apple’s best.

braumbles Mar 26, 2026
Pachinko didn't finish though. Show got canceled before we really got going into how everyone wound up where they did.

Out of curiosity, which other Apple shows have you watched?
3
braumbles Mar 25, 2026 +3
Like 90% of them. I've seen probably all of their 1 season and canceled shows. Haven't seen any of the newer seasons of stuff like Foundation, For All Mankind (only season 1, didn't like it, but plan on continuing at some point), Palm Royale season 2, that plane crash escape show, basically most of June-now stuff on Apple is what I haven't seen. I also haven't seen Tehran or that clothes Nazi Germany show with Arya Stark. But yea, I've seen just about everything else. Even Buccaneers season 1.

Slow Horses is fuckin amazing. Highly recommend

lurkyloowhoo Mar 25, 2026 +1
Gotcha. That’s pretty lofty praise then, I’ll have to check it out!

Dope Thief is great too.

Second season is a big drop but its fine

jnighy Mar 25, 2026 +17
Season 1 was really good and engaging. Season 2 was disastrous

thy_bucket_for_thee Mar 25, 2026 +1
Season 2 is beyond the source material right? I haven't watched it yet but from what I can recall I thought season 1 covered everything from the manga? Like the main stories at least.
1
grachi Mar 25, 2026 +1
It has to be off source now, yea. I mean it’s just so vastly different in quality and story telling
1
predator-handshake Mar 26, 2026 +1
Sort of. There’s like a million mangas. Even the first season wasn’t really following it
1
WoodpeckerGingivitis Mar 25, 2026 +13
Recommend stopping at season 1. But it’s good!

NotQuiteGoodEnougher Mar 25, 2026 +3
Totally agree. 1st season was engaging. 2nd was enraging; everything felt contrived and artificial, unlike 1.
3
eperker Mar 25, 2026 +3
I just finished the first season. I will stop here. Thank you.

Nuo_Vibro Mar 25, 2026 +3
loved the 1st series, havent gotten around to the 2nd yet
3
grachi Mar 25, 2026 +2
Yea honestly I’d just stop there
2
Trueogre Mar 25, 2026 +3
I heard this was meant to be good, but ultimately it didn't impress me much. I watched 4 episodes and it just wasn't for me.

The_Dolph_Lundgren Mar 25, 2026 +3
Season 1 is outstanding. And should have stayed a one-off, as it was supposed to be.
3
dpman48 Mar 26, 2026 +1
I didn’t hate the idea of a season 2. But this second season has really lacked direction, the themes seem really at odds with the characters, and it just hasn’t been very interesting.

Chataboutgames Mar 25, 2026 +4
As a wine lover I dug the first season, but generally got bored then the girl's story just kinda degenerated in to being a temperamental brat all the time and having an illicit romance with perfect hot guy wine maker.
4
WoodpeckerGingivitis Mar 25, 2026 +3
The romance definitely felt like the most unnecessary part

Infamous-Lab-8136 Mar 25, 2026 +2
I watched season 1 and really liked it. I tried to start season 2 but I realized I prefer to binge this one so now that the whole thing is out I'll probably give it a go
2
iamamuttonhead Mar 25, 2026 +2
I enjoyed the first season more than the second but I'd still recommend it highly. All that said, mopey Isei and self-involved Camille are two of the less likable characters on TV IMO.
2
PablosCocaineHippo Mar 25, 2026 +2
First season was great with a good ending. Second season was extremely boring and redundant imo

HotBrownFun Mar 25, 2026 +1
It's a good show, i thought it was done. It's originally based on an old anime! (please don't let that discourage you lol)
1
occono Mar 25, 2026 +9
A manga, the original work is a manga.
9
bleachercreature95 Mar 25, 2026 +2
There will be an anime based on the manga premiering in a few weeks
2
littlebighuman Mar 25, 2026 +1
Why would that discourage me? It is literally the first thing I read in this post that made me consider it.
1
HotBrownFun Mar 25, 2026 +2
oh, a lot of animes, specially the ones that become popular in the west are catered to children and teenagers. This can turn off people with fully-fused brain lobes.
2
littlebighuman Mar 25, 2026 +1
Sure. For me it just signals there is a big change it is sci fi, fantasy or super hero stuff. I need the escapisme. I don't care much for drama. The other extreme is if it says "based on a true story", I immediately bail. I have enough real drama. I need something out of this world :) Comedy is good to.

HotBrownFun Mar 25, 2026 +1
Very fair. I suppose I wrote the disclaimer because of the sub. One always tries to guess what the potential listener/reader will like. Kinda hard to generalize an entire sub thought!

dirtydovedreams Mar 25, 2026 +1
I remember decades ago seeing an out of context shot of the manga of the guy decanting from really high up. This was on GameFAQs. Now my knee clicks when I walk up a staircase.

Chataboutgames Mar 25, 2026 +2
As a wine lover this show making me aware of the *insane* imagery from the manga was the best thing about it.
2
Pkittens Mar 25, 2026 +1
Is it primarily in English?
1
Not_a_N1nja Mar 25, 2026 +1
It is in English, French and Japanese with a couple of other languages thrown in.
1
Pkittens Mar 25, 2026 +1
That doesn't answer whether it's primarily English 🥀
1
uhwhatjusthappened Mar 25, 2026 +1
It’s catered to a primarily English speaking audience but the setting is very international
1
Pkittens Mar 25, 2026 +1
People in France speak English with a French accent, didn't anyone tell them this?!

TinCatCanuck Mar 26, 2026 +1
Loved this show, but I didn’t even know that it had a second season. The first season had a wrapped up feeling, so I thought it was a limited series.

cool_side_of_pillow Mar 26, 2026 +1
Even my 10yr old liked it! (I fwded past the s***-times bits) I loved that she didn’t mind the subtitles. She could learn more about wine and see images of Tokyo. Now she likes to sniff her drinks and talk about what she can smell. It’s adorable.

Starry_Kitchen Mar 26, 2026 +1
The manga it’s based off of is AMAZING if you like the show. Check it out!

hoecakes11 Mar 26, 2026 +1
The competition aspect of season 1 and the introduction of the world of wine and all of that was relatively enjoyable for season 1 but didn’t really seem like the show knew what to do for season 2. As some one who is into food and wine, I was hoping the show would continue to highlight the wine industry instead we get just a weird soap opera about a Georgian family and more in depth character development of the two main characters. Maybe other people were watching the show because they liked issei and Camille but I was more into the wine industry in general. Then again I don’t actually know the source material so maybe it was always supposed to be a character development show

jansipper Mar 26, 2026 +1
I was on the fence because I loooove Yamapi and was a big fan during his idol days, but the plot seemed kind of weird to me. But this has convinced me to give it a shot!

I watched the first episode of it, and honestly...its existence is one of the most confusing things I've ever seen. I literally don't know a single other person that knows French, Japanese, and English...and even then, my wine vocabulary isn't anywhere good enough to keep up. But its incredibly confusing how often two very clearly French characters decide to use English to communicate in private. It's also pretty clearly meant to be a story of 2 mid-20-something young adults, rather than 2 actors who are clearly pushing 40, which makes their relationships with their families bizarre. It also doesn't help that if you're familiar with the source material, making the now-daughter be French adds a ton of shitty subtext to what was intended as a light and informative view of wines. Instead, now we have to contend with the idea that the French just know wine better than anyone else, even if they haven't put in any effort.
