I don’t think I was prepared for how much empty space there is in the show. I expected clever and dark and snarky. What we get is slow and desperate to be quirky and David Harbour trying to be charming and failing miserably.
If the show was a tight 30 min per episode, it had a chance to be interesting. There’s just so little happening in so much time.
Dave Harbour is trying to be charming? His character is awkward and uncomfortable in his skin and his life. Literally no one in this show is meant to be charming.

OP is just trying to sound clever and insightful, and failing miserably.

Yeah nah mate, I think you're spot on about the pacing issues but missing the mark on Harbour's performance. His character's supposed to be that awkward mess - that's literally the whole point of the show. The guy's a walking disaster trying to navigate this weird situation
The real problem is they're stretching what could be tight 6-episode content across way too many episodes. Classic streaming bloat where they think more runtime equals better value

There's only going to be 7 episodes lol It's also not a streaming show, it airs on HBO.

His character’s not really “supposed” to be that at all, and it’s absolutely not the point of the whole show. He’s weird and complicated. They’re all weird and complicated.

You don’t realize that’s counter to the intent.

A whole lot of nothing and then some twisty hook at the end for next ep. Only half watching at this point, if that.
Also, got the sense - with the titling and cast and all - that hbo may have intended to be some sort of anthology (DTF: Albuquerque, idk). Hope I’m wrong

There are a lot of shows that would benefit from being 30 minutes. It really focuses the writing.

I’m actually surprised to see such a strong disliking for this show. My partner and I love it. The non-linear storytelling, the relationships, the murder mystery aspect—I think it’s great. I can see people’s complaints here and understand the gripes, but hey, not every show is for everyone.

David Harbour IS charming and adorable in this show (if it's appropriate to say "adorable" about an overweight middle-aged moustached man). Sue me.

Maybe look up him being a bit of a sex fiend in real life

Being very generous to "sex fiend".

So an actor pretends to be someone he isn't. How can it happen? I thought only a cop can play a cop, a murderer can play a murderer, a bankster can play a bankster, you have to be married to play a married person, you have to have one leg to play Long John Silver, and you have to be a good charming person to play a good charming person.

Honestly, your comment of 30 mins is gold. If they had trimmed the F\*\*K out of those episodes, the show would be bearable. But it's incredibly boring, and I can't believe they'll make it through more than 2 seasons (they'll give it a vanity season because of the famous casting and I can't believe the budget is high considering there aren't that many locations, no wild costumes and no crazy stunts.

This is meant to be a one and done show. A lot of them now are, since it allows bigger stars to be involved and not worry about future conflicts. Also it’s a murder show, and Twin Peaks it is not, so it would be insane to stretch one killing over two season.

You're probably right. Someone mentioned it could be an anthology like "The White Lotus" or "American Horror Story" for example, and I can see that happening too.
But even still, are the ratings that good that it would last more than 1 or 2 seasons?

They say don’t judge a book by its cover. that’s bullshit. In regards to TV shows, if the name of your show is shitty as this, I wouldn’t expect much..

I think Busy Phillips to me has the crown for starring in _two_ shows with a terrible name that were actually funny.
Cougar Town and Girls5eva.
