I loved Duffy’s debut album and it was amazing to hear such a unique voice and seeing her raw emotion while filming the video for “Warwick Avenue” was saddening but beautiful in its own way. Was absolutely gutted after hearing about her kidnapping and I really hope that whoever is responsible for it is in a terrible f****** place right now.

I remember when she posed on instagram after years explaining what happened to her. I was wondering when she was gone for all these years. Poor her. I wonder who this man was to her before all that happened to her.

Such a sad and terrible story. Can you imagine that even if you're a big star such terrible thing can happen.. I do wish she named that guy so everybody would know what kind of person he is. Although I do respect her decision to not name him.

CaptainObvious110 Mar 25, 2026 +34
I wish she named him as well. How else does the abuse come to an end?

ishitfrommymouth Mar 25, 2026 +59
I get what you’re saying, but in the “he said, she said” of SA investigations, unless she has damning physical evidence she’s opening herself up to a huge defamation suit. And I’m willing to bet if she had that kind of proof, the guy would be locked up already.

AttonJRand Mar 25, 2026 +6
Depp proved you can just sue your victims into submission, and even assemble an army of parasocial misogynistic fanboys, so yeah its a very valid concern.

And the downvotes are just reinforcing your point.

"After the initial revelation, Duffy shared details of the kidnapping in a 3,000-word post on her website. “It was my birthday, I was drugged at a restaurant, I was drugged then for four weeks and travelled to a foreign country,” she wrote. The perpetrator, whose name she did not reveal, “made veiled confessions of wanting to kill me.” Thats...not what I expected. Jesus Christ. I hope she is able to return to a sense of normality after that whole ordeal. Personally I don't know if I could go through that, and live to tell the story.

Thanks for linking that, it was incredibly powerful and well written. I didn't realize the statement was from 2020 during peak covid until I got to the end, that's a crazy backdrop to it.

Damn.. she's been through it. When I was in my early 20's I had a good 'friend with benefits' situation with the most attractive (to me) person i've ever known. Someone broke into her apartment one night and raped her. I was out of my mind with worry, rage, sorrow.. The police were nice enough, but not very helpful in the end - and I went into full 'Private Eye' mode. I wanted to find that f***** like a cast away wants a boat. It almost consumed me. I narrowed it down to 2 suspects, the 1st of which was the first person who popped into my head the moment she told me what happened. I confronted him, which as you might imagine didn't go well. Naturally he denied it, but has ducked my presence ever since (could be because I accused him and he didn't really do it, Idk. It haunts me). I have no idea why today's the day that I needed to write about it. It hurt her in a way that I don't think she ever really healed completely from, and I feel like a failure whenever we do talk, which is infrequently these days. I know it wasn't my fault, but I feel so aggravated that I couldn't get her some measure of justice. She never explicitly asked me to get that for her, it was just a thing that I needed to do at the most primal level, and I still think about it almost every day. Duffy's story kind of jostled something in me I guess.

Part of the pain of being violated like this is what it does to the men around them, it's one of the many sad, but justified reasons many women choose not to report. No offense or anything, we all react emotionally to things, I'm not any different in that regard. Just... thought it might be a token for you to check on her, and if appropriate, apologize. I mean or don't, I obviously could be way off base and wasn't involved.
34
FairyOfTheNight Mar 25, 2026 +26
What happened with the second person? I wish her healing and the ability to move on in whatever way she can manage these days 😔
26
Beard_o_Bees Mar 25, 2026 +26
> What happened with the second person? He's long 'in the wind'. I couldn't get the police to press him, and he was sort of new to that scene.
26
GoodOlBluesBrother Mar 25, 2026 +21
I dunno what to say to that. But I’m sad that you guys talk infrequently now. Especially as your caring for her is what seems to have driven your actions. Maybe right now she needs you more in the present than the past. In the end your feelings and desires for retribution are secondary to her needs. She’s the one who had to go through the attack and has to live with it. Help her live now, ask her how she wants to deal with the past, where she wants to be in the future, and what she needs in the present to get there. Know this, you bear no guilt. Let it go for both your benefit. Tell yourself now, out loud… “what happened to ____ was in no way my fault”. Say it. If you continue to carry the guilt you won’t be able to help your friend. And ultimately that seems to be your motive for your actions.

Duffy has a special place in my heart. Although I'm 50M, the song Distant Dreamer really speaks to my soul. So, Duffy fell off my radar for a while. Next I checked, I discovered about the abduction. She's so strong. I don't know how you can rebuild yourself after something like that.

I hope she names the r*pist. If she's worried about being sued, she should give the name to an MP to be named in parliament. Due to her fame, I'm sure that could be arranged. [Note: I censored a word because otherwise Automod removes it.]

ifyouknowwhatimeanx Mar 25, 2026 +61
Another rung down on the enshitification ladder for the site.
61
Joe091 Mar 25, 2026 +26
It’s not fucked up because it’s not true. Automod does not remove comments with the word rapist. This isn’t TikTok.
26
sunkencathedral Mar 25, 2026 +15
A lot of subs really do. I was once confined and assaulted by a sexual abuser, and have offered my thoughts on it on Reddit quite often. About 75% of the time, my posts are deleted or auto-filtered because of the language. In the end, I had to start censoring myself. I hate it, because in my opinion this kind of censorship silences victims and stops them from being able to talk about the raw reality of what happened to them. I refuse to use cutesy TikTok words like 'grape', though. I just say things like 'r\*pe' in order to not be filtered. I really, really, really wish we didn't have to do this.
15
Joe091 Mar 25, 2026 +8
I always see people saying this. They never say the subs by name. I’ve never seen it actually be true in practice.  Edit: I’m sure it is true in some cases. But it’s not as widespread as people claim. Your posts are probably getting manually deleted because the mods suck.
8
sanctaphrax Mar 25, 2026 +2
I can only remember being word-filter automodded on Reddit once, and it was for a person's name. I don't think bad-word autofilters are common here.
2
TheRedHand7 Mar 25, 2026 +5
Oh there are sooooo many words that trigger it many different subs. You will never know unless you think to log out and check for it.
5
Joe091 Mar 25, 2026 +8
No, people just think that’s the case. Very few subs actually do that for “naughty” words - I actually don’t know of any that do. People just self-censor because they think that’s the case and they’re used to TilTok.
8
TheRedHand7 Mar 25, 2026 -2
Edit I was wrong listen to the other guy.

TheRedHand7 Mar 25, 2026 +1
So it is. Let me go check which one I was thinking of.
1
Joe091 Mar 25, 2026 +5
Honestly, I don’t really care. The point is it’s very uncommon, not that it doesn’t exist. People think it’s a thing since it happens on TikTok. If words are filtered on subreddits, there’s usually a (stupid) reason other than naughty words are bad.
5
Unspec7 Mar 25, 2026 +1
As someone who mods a largish sub, automod is also not...elegant. When it comes to detecting words or phrases, its very rigid and so false positives a lot. If you try to fix it with regex detection, you now have to f*** around with regex which a form of masochism.
1
enderpanda Mar 25, 2026 +1
Incognito mode can be useful for that - on most browsers it should be in the right click menu when you click on a link. Sometimes you need to give it a few seconds before it will show up - if you do it too quickly you might think it was deleted when it wasn't.
1
Joe091 Mar 25, 2026 +10

2
zigaliciousone Mar 25, 2026 +63
It is rumored to be Mike Phillips, the rugby player she used to date.
63
nwaa Mar 25, 2026 +24
Any sources or anything on this?
24
zigaliciousone Mar 25, 2026 +104
She was invited to a restaurant on her birthday by someone she knew who then drugged her and took her out of the country, she was raped in the other country for weeks, then brought back to her home UK where she does not know if she was raped again. She knows who the person is and has not yet named them but Mike had both the connections and a motive plus the familiarity to get Duffy to meet him somewhere AND know where she lives and comfortable enough to keep her hostage in her own home once he brought her back to the UK. Like all signs point to it being Mike Phillips.
104
nwaa Mar 25, 2026 +45
It does fit together quite neatly. Phillips would have not long moved to France at the time too which would perhaps be the foreign country. He was also notoriously a bit of a headcase but obviously nothing on this level.

normanbeets Mar 25, 2026 +35
It's almost always the boyfriend. She got drugged and taken out of a restaurant, by who? Not her boyfriend? Whoever her dinner date was just came back from the bathroom to find her missing and said "gee, guess Duffy left me with the bill." Then that person never heard from her again and didn't tell anyone? Please.
35
somethi Mar 25, 2026 -1
Yes, “please.” It’s wrong to accuse someone of such a serious crime without any proof or even a legitimate accusation. Full stop. Duffy, the victim, hasn’t even said who it was ffs and you’re posting fan fiction about who it was and how it happened
-1
danabrey Mar 25, 2026 +6
Shocked you're being downvoted here. However 'likely' it is in someone's head, somebody who only knows certain parts of a story, I don't care. It's totally irresponsible and unethical.

15

Not really. Spreading rumors and conspiracy theories just clogs up the path for real information to get through.
27
amusedmb715 Mar 25, 2026 +6
her not naming the scumbag made people guessing inevitable. fucked up that the scum is still being protected.
6

This happens frequently because victims are afraid of the outcome of naming someone. Please be respectful.
3
RagePrime Mar 25, 2026 +2
The point is that you should not consider reddit comments as "real information."
2
Ok_Gazelle_4442 Mar 25, 2026 +5

I got turned on to Duffy when Rescue Me used one of her songs for an opening scene, which is one of the greatest openings in cable tv history https://youtu.be/7ALUTPuEI7E?si=mOjUkitoheAnBU0c I hope she can heal from all the shit shes going through, her unique voice is missed
8
Ksh_667 Mar 25, 2026 +6
It horrifies me to think this guy is still out there. Obviously it's completely up to Duffy to do what is best for her & I hope she's healing, however she can. I just wish this person could be taken off the streets. I can't help thinking that after the initial horror at what happened to her, the identity of the rapist will be mostly what's on people's minds. And there will be people who know this person & what happened. With today's Internet I very much doubt they will remain unknown for long.

I feel that a quite big chunk of men feeling like they should have complete control over the autonomy of women is deeply political… no matter if some take their actions as far as that guy and others don’t. Because the root cause for stuff like that happening is the same as with the policies of maga and co.

Sincere question here because I've never understand why people leave comments like this, but why not just use your search bar or read the posted article? You're already on the internet, the article is linked for you, and typing "duffy" is like 5-6x shorter than typing "Never heard of her until this".
