Dunesday, gotcha back overpaid Hollywood marketing teams.

JohnBrine Mar 19, 2026 +153
Barbenheimer 2
153
flourier Mar 19, 2026 +42
But worse at least those 2 were original movies, these are just sequels
42
Monstarrzero Mar 19, 2026 +50
D3 is a legit continuation of one story though. It’s not just a rehash sequel, or a new story with the old characters.
50
DarthCaligula Mar 19, 2026 +26
Doomsday is a culmination of the MCU but it is also the real project hail Mary. If doomsday fails, then the MCU is fucked. Doomsday is the Flutie hail Mary.
26
alanthar Mar 19, 2026 +8
as an older Calgarian, I can only salute a Doug Flutie reference in the wild!
8
Legonistrasz Mar 19, 2026 +3
It won’t fail but I don’t think it will do Endgame numbers.
3
Monstarrzero Mar 19, 2026 +2
I think Endgame was, this is a new threat, a new story with old characters.
2
Hairy_Suspect_2468 Mar 19, 2026 +9
Endgame was the capstone. It was expected to be excellent. A Hail Mary is a desperation move
9
Monstarrzero Mar 19, 2026 +4
You’re correct I guess I misunderstood their comment.
4
Ironsam811 Mar 19, 2026 +3
How many times did they remake dune again…?
3
-Nightopian- Mar 19, 2026 +3
There have been 3 iterations of Dune. 1984, 2000 and the new 2021/24 movies. Dune part 3 was adapted once before in 2003 along with its sequel.
3
oateyboat Mar 19, 2026 +2
Isn't the end of Dune Part 2 also the end of the book? This is definitely a sequel no mYter how you spin it
2
-Nightopian- Mar 19, 2026 +3
Dune part 1 and 2 were one book. Dune part 2 is the second book in the franchise.
3
Nerdlinger Mar 19, 2026 +16
Hence the “2”.
16
RevolutionaryGain823 Mar 19, 2026 +16
Hollywood sequel obsession is shite but Dune 3 is prob the most meaningful sequel any major Hollywood studio will produce. It’s needed to finish adapting the book trilogy that ties together important themes and ideas from the 1st couple films. Zero interest in the 74th Marvel IP tho. Should’ve taken a decade off after End Game (which was great)
16
TheDuderinoAbides Mar 19, 2026 +3
If Denis finishes with Dune 3 and not giving us God Emperor it's the blue balls of all time
3
Putrid_Anybody_2947 Mar 19, 2026 +3
I mean even the actors in the marvel ip have no interest in being in the movie they all have said in the past how they are glad to move on. I get it a pay day is a payday no shade well maybe to rdj
3
flourier Mar 19, 2026 +3
Ya I’ll give you dune 3 isn’t a sequel to the same extent. I want to see a dune in the theater but I’m about done with marvel movies as a theater experience.
3
livinginfutureworld Mar 19, 2026 +2
That's why it's Barbenheimer 2 and not Barbenheimer as well...
2
N3verGonnaG1veYouUp Mar 19, 2026 +2
...Electric Boogaloo
2
Signiference Mar 19, 2026 +19
Except this time it’s a week before Christmas and people are gonna have non movie plans too. Both of these movies will be around three hour run time. Somebody has to move.
19
king_lloyd11 Mar 19, 2026 +8
My friends and I have already booked the day off and plan to watch them both that day. I hope they don’t move it lol. Just have to market it well.
8
Acrobatic_Potato_195 Mar 19, 2026 +3
Me too, but this won't be the norm.
3
animalivebecome Mar 20, 2026 +3
The obvious answer is Avengers has to move. They can’t even have a single IMAX screening bc Dune has had this date the entire time. It’s beyond pathetic for this to be framed any other way than Disney/Marvel chose a stupid date and will look stupid when they announce another new date.
3
Indraga Mar 20, 2026 +2
> week before Christmas I gochu: **Doom: Messiah**
2
paternoster Mar 19, 2026 +6
DUNE3DAY
6
pentultimate Mar 19, 2026 +456
Release them on the same day and let the commons vote with their dollars.
456
katikaboom Mar 19, 2026 +111
Man, I'm going to see them both opening weekend regardless. I think Avengers has the greater risk of spoilers, so that will be first and Dune 3 will be rhe next day. I'm honestly really excited for them to duke it out
111
SerLarrold Mar 19, 2026 +94
To be fair it’s tough to spoil dune 3 when the book has been published for half a century lol
94
exoriparian Mar 19, 2026 +43
YouTubers can't read, though.
43
CaptKangarooPHD Mar 19, 2026 +22
Hey! Hey..... hey! What did you say?
22
Doggleganger Mar 19, 2026 +2
They can. but you have to flash 3 words max at a time.
2
fatloui Mar 19, 2026 +5
I’m betting the movie will be quite different than Messiah. Maybe the some of the same bullet points, but the journey will be very different. There were major differences in the end of part 2 and the end of the original book, especially with Chani. Messiah has its fans, but generally was not well received. I have mixed feelings on it - I appreciate what the author was trying to convey, but I think the execution was seriously lacking.
5
boomerinspirit Mar 19, 2026 +10
Right. It's like when LOTR came out. My guys and girls, the book has existed for decades. This movie is a spoiler for the book
10
Tibbaryllis2 Mar 19, 2026 +3
True, but the vast majority of people never went past the original movie.
3
duaneap Mar 19, 2026 +2
Messiah is also not really spoiler material too. They’re not really those kinds of books or films.
2
AdamantiumLive Mar 19, 2026 +2
Ok, but I don‘t think the larger audience even cares about spoilers that much as it did when Endgame came out. Most of the previous Marvel stuff of the last six years won‘t matter anyway, we don‘t know anything about the story and deaths aren‘t permanent ever anymore due to the multiverse stuff.
2
katikaboom Mar 19, 2026 +2
Sure, but I do care about them so I'll see Doomsday first. I grew up with parents that LOVED Dune and so I know most of the story, so I am not worried about spoilers with that movie for me.
2
tissboom Mar 19, 2026 +2
You better stay off all social media before you see that avengers movie… Someone will ruin it for you
2
Tityfan808 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Exactly my line of thinking here too. Avengers first cause spoilers will get around someway somehow, then Dune second.
2
UnluckyCardiologist9 Mar 19, 2026 +9
For reals. They use to release big movies Memorial Day weekend and it was fine.
9
Earthpig_Johnson Mar 19, 2026 +4
Well one of them I’ll be able to take my kids to, the other one, probably not.
4
EggsAndRice7171 Mar 19, 2026 +8
They’re both pg-13 so really up to your discretion. I do agree a kid probably is more interested in avengers though
8
Earthpig_Johnson Mar 19, 2026 +8
Yeah, that’s all I mean. Dune likely won’t hold a kid’s interest. It’s more about the maturity of the story than offensive content.
8
criscokkat Mar 19, 2026 +2
My 13 year old really liked it. He wouldn't have liked it when the first one actually was released in theatres.
2
exoriparian Mar 19, 2026 +5
The Ring is PG13, meanwhile The King's Speech got an R rating. I wouldn't rely on those to determine what's age appropriate.
5
wildwolfay5 Mar 19, 2026 +3
This belongs on a snapple cap lol
3
king_lloyd11 Mar 19, 2026 +2
How many kids do you see walk around with a Paul Atreides lunchbox? Definitely has nothing to do with the rating.
2
futuresdawn Mar 19, 2026 +16
They can release avengers whenever they want but I'm just watching dune. I got bored of the marvel house style back in phase 3
16
exoriparian Mar 19, 2026 +7
After Endgame, I was pretty sure I was officially burned out. After Black Widow, I was 100% sure. Haven't watched one since.
7
Gluverty Mar 19, 2026 +4
I liked Guardians 3 quite a bit, but the others didn’t stir me.
4
echoplex21 Mar 19, 2026 +79
Would it be tougher for dune to move because of the IMAX reservation ?
79
ShermansAngryGhost Mar 19, 2026 +44
Dune already having the IMAX screens reserved all but ensure Disney moves Avengers. Unless they want to buy WB out to get the screens, because there is zero chance they aren’t releasing in IMAX screens
44
TrapperJean Mar 19, 2026 +19
And dumber for Disney to not have IMAX, hope Disney just releases it earlier personally
19
JJBell Mar 19, 2026 +195
WB has the high ground here for Dune 3. They have ALL the IMAX screens reserved for 3 weeks. Unless Disney wants to buy them out of that 3 week window, which would probably cost more than it’s worth.
195
falknorRockman Mar 19, 2026 +34
Just curious but where is this exclusive IMAX release info coming from? I am only seeing the generic online news sources saying it but nothing official from the studios/IMAX. It’s all x news says dune has exclusive rights.
34
VBBN-Official Mar 19, 2026 +52
I mean usually stuff like this isn’t reported that way, the heavy hitters Hollywood Reporter and Variety have both confirmed it which is about as official as it gets as far as news sites go, those two are deep in the industry and generally accepted as the industry source of truth
52
falknorRockman Mar 19, 2026 +4
Ah ok I did not know that so good to know.
4
JasonQG Mar 19, 2026 +5
The first time I saw it reported I remember it was from IMAX themselves, maybe their investor presentation or something like that
5
sentient-sloth Mar 19, 2026 +6
If you go on the IMAX website and look at upcoming releases they have the Dune 3 as their lone December release with no mention of Avengers at all too.
6
Max_Powers1331 Mar 19, 2026 +7
did you read the article? its in there "Dune has secured Imax screens for three weeks of exclusivity. Dune would generally be considered the bigger Imax draw anyway given director Denis Villeneuve’s level of sci-fi spectacle and that the film was partially filmed using Imax cameras"
7
MagnetoWasRight24 Mar 19, 2026 +5
Dune: Part Two had the same box office as Captain America: Winter Soldier, which ranks 19th among MCU movies in box office. What are we talking about, despite how much interest in the MCU has dropped, Doomsday is still gonna do better than Dune.
5
bluequarz Mar 19, 2026 +41
> Insiders say Disney and Marvel is unwavering in its decision to stick with the date, despite Dune‘s Imax exclusivity. While Imax and premium large format screens are in hot demand, there are plenty of regular screens I keep saying that Disney and Marvel don't want to move. They have a live countdown counting down to 18 Dec since January going on. It would be a terrible look if they blinked and moved now. They also likely knew months ago that they weren't getting IMAX in the US for 3 weeks and they still went ahead with the 4 teasers citing 18 Dec + the countdown clock. It will open in IMAX in some int markets according to IMAX themselves tho. Spidey too. They crunched the numbers ages ago and decided they want the December holiday money more than the IMAX money. Endgame made 207m globally from IMAX, 7.39% of its total gross. I guess IMAX is more popular now in the US than back then but they probably still don't think it's worth it sacrificing the December s*** and also pushing their entire slate several months back. There's no way Secret Wars comes less than 12 months apart from DD. Also I bet they'll re-release the movie in IMAX once Dune's exclusivity window is done
41
BeetsBy_Schrute Mar 19, 2026 +13
They’re going on the same weekend that they did with Star Was 7, 8, 9, Rogue One, Avatar 2 & 3. Yes, there’s competition, but that date is incredibly strategic. One week right before Christmas. Secure the screens, once Christmas hits, you have 9-10 days of business where every day is like a busy Saturday. And then it will stay all through January, since January is usually a dumping ground and the best films to see are a lot of the ones that came out at Christmas.
13
Medd- Mar 19, 2026 +105
Isn't it just execs thinking this? Most people would perhaps choose to see one on Thursday and the other one a few days later.
105
Apptubrutae Mar 19, 2026 +34
It’s not overthinking, it’s real. People have limited monthly budgets and movies aren’t c****. Some number of people who would see both movies won’t see both when they’re close in release. Millions of dollars worth of
34
Economy_Bite24 Mar 19, 2026 +5
Yeah I was about to say tickets are about $20 where I live. If I were to see two movies with my wife that's $80, probably around $100 after popcorn and soda or whatever, at the theaters on a weekend. That's nbd for us, but damn it's enough to make me reconsider if I'd rather just go for a nice dinner instead. Movies used to be priced such that average person could pop in on a whim to see one without considering the cost for the most part. Now it at least makes most people stop and consider whether it's worth their time and money.
5
amo1337 Mar 19, 2026 +98
Who goes to the movie twice in one weekend in this economy? I'm with the execs...
98
legendary_sponge Mar 19, 2026 +26
Barbenheimer
26
8JHF8 Mar 19, 2026 +42
Different target audiences
42
NZafe Mar 19, 2026 +12
Didn’t stop me from watching both
12
The-Duke-of-Delco Mar 19, 2026 +9
I was planning on doing a Dunesday lol
9
Apprehensive-Fig2816 Mar 19, 2026 +7
The headline/article is probably just the execs testing the waters to see if there’s any interest in this.
7
Sevren425 Mar 19, 2026 +7
That was in an improving economy.
7
SgtSlippyfist Mar 19, 2026 +5
That economy was slightly better
5
Muted_Yoghurt6071 Mar 19, 2026 +6
Even if you don't see going to the movies twice in a weekend or 2 week span as a strain (50+$ for 1 person to see these in IMAX), it's like having your birthday on Christmas. Spread the joy.
6
Lil_Brown_Bat Mar 19, 2026 +2
For $12/mo I get 2 movie tickets at my local theatre.
2
RabidJoint Mar 19, 2026 +3
Movie theaters near me do monthly plans. For $23 a month, get to watch 6 movies, 4 free popcorns and drinks.
3
Silvanus350 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Who goes to the movies at all? It will be online eventually anyway.
2
Medd- Mar 19, 2026 +2
It's one week before Christmas. Everyone will go.
2
Begonia_Blue Mar 19, 2026 +5
That affects the box office scores
5
Medd- Mar 19, 2026 +2
Which is an exec thing to worry about.
2
Apptubrutae Mar 19, 2026 +2
True, but movies get made with, you know, money. The Avengers isn’t an indie passion project. It’s a commercial money making machine
2
Medd- Mar 19, 2026 +2
Movies don't get made based on how much money they make on opening week. None of these movies will get hurt in the long run.
2
BigMax Mar 19, 2026 +4
Sure, plenty will! But not all of them, right? Not everyone likes the movies *that much* to go two times even in a given month, much less two times in a weekend. And not everyone has the money to go twice, especially if they are a family. So it will almost certainly impact the box office of both. Also - there's the 'immediacy' factor of movies too. When a big movie comes out, there's buzz, excitement, and people get drawn to go see it opening week/weekend. If you skip a movie opening week (because in this case, you saw the other one), a week later... that 'pull' you feel to go see the other one is a little less. It's not the hot new movie, it's not the premiere, you've already heard a spoiler or two, etc.
4
Ok_Nefariousness9736 Mar 19, 2026 +3
You’re assuming that that Dune and Avengers has the same fanbase. Not everyone wants to see both. They are basically trying to create another Barbie and Oppenheimer event. Except, it seems like the general population is more interested in Dune.
3
Medd- Mar 19, 2026 +4
> You’re assuming that that Dune and Avengers has the same fanbase I'm actually not. Dune audience will go watch Dune. Avengers audience will go watch Avengers. People interested in both will go watch both. No matter the angle here, this changes nothing.
4
ZzzSleep Mar 19, 2026 +5
There's no way the general population has more interest in Dune. Even if Marvel has been in a slump, the Avengers movies are still big events and will attract more of that family audience.
5
amo1337 Mar 19, 2026 +31
I thought this was "capitalism"?
31
fearthainne Mar 19, 2026 +30
Who cares, just release them on the same day. It's just a couple movies.
30
CrackheadHunters Mar 19, 2026 +6
Nah let's drop em both on the same day and do a double feature. Barbenheimer was a lot of fun.
6
Doc-11th Mar 19, 2026 +7
Dunesday is coming
7
LogicalEgo Mar 19, 2026 +7
I would rather see Dune.
7
myusrnameisthis Mar 19, 2026 +22
Or maybe people will see both, and the movie theaters can survive a little longer.
22
RTwhyNot Mar 19, 2026 +24
IMAX is locked up by Dune 3
24
Junkstar Mar 19, 2026 +15
And that’s how i want to see Dune. I don’t feel like i need to see avengers in IMAX.
15
Familiar-School5081 Mar 19, 2026 +14
Some people may feel the opposite.
14
NoTitleChamp Mar 19, 2026 +6
Seeing how the majority of screens aren't IMAX anyway I doubt it.
6
Familiar-School5081 Mar 19, 2026 +4
Not one person would rather see Avengers in IMAX? That’s a hot take.
4
BigMax Mar 19, 2026 +4
Well, for the 'theaters surviving' aspect, the point is that they will likely hurt each others total numbers a bit by coming out the same weekend, therefore theaters would do better overall if they came out a few weeks apart. Plenty of people will see both of course. But... it will affect total numbers. Not everyone who would have otherwise seen both before will see both now.
4
DamGoodAnimation Mar 19, 2026 +5
I don’t really understand how we can go months at a time with no releases at all then two relatively big ones come out and they’re like “yeah let’s do it on the same day”
5
DarkLanternZBT Mar 19, 2026 +9
Listen, you punks, we Barbenheimered / OppenBarbie'd for a REASON. Stop being COWARDS.
9
volcanicpooruption Mar 19, 2026 +20
Im watching Dune day one. Ill wait to see reviews of Avengers. Ive been burned too many times by trash heap marvel movies since Endgame
20
FirewaterTenacious Mar 20, 2026 +3
While I understand your sentiment, you know that Doomsday is not going to be the same as the post Endgame movies you’ve been burnt by. Russos said they’re treating it as a sequel to Endgame and many of the Infinity War crew are working on this one as well. It’s highly unlikely this becomes a “trash heap” film. And even if the script is not fantastic, we all know the spectacle will be fun on the big screen.
3
Impressive-Panda527 Mar 19, 2026 +4
If it worked for Barbenheimer it can work for you two
4
SirDurante Mar 19, 2026 +4
Dune has nothing to worry about, especially with all the IMAX screens locked in.
4
BasketCASE445 Mar 19, 2026 +4
Dune 3 has all the IMAX screens reserved for 3 weeks. Disney is definitely going to move up or push back their date.
4
rockey94 Mar 19, 2026 +5
I’ll be at Dune 3 and I have no interest in Avengers. I have a friend that is in the opposite boat. I wonder if the crossover between movies is deceptively smaller than one would think.
5
that_guy2010 Mar 19, 2026 +3
The answer is *obvious*. Disney moves Doomsday to Thanksgiving and their movie Hexed to Christmas.
3
IllustriousSimple297 Mar 19, 2026 +5
Avengers: Dunesday
5
Gambitzz Mar 19, 2026 +4
Dune in imax. Avengers at home.
4
uCry__iLoL Mar 19, 2026 +3
At least one of those movies has a proper buildup lol not relying on recalling old actors and directors to help boost the franchise.
3
Henson_Disney48 Mar 19, 2026 +5
It's Barbenheimer 2.0, I don't see how this isn't a win for theaters with people spending 5 hours in the theater buying multiple tickets, popcorn refills etc.
5
Oceanbreeze871 Mar 19, 2026 +5
People can’t afford it
5
NoTitleChamp Mar 19, 2026 +5
They only people losing are the poor souls in charge of cleaning up.
5
SpaceOdysseus23 Mar 19, 2026 +3
It's not. Barbenheimer worked because it was both spontaneous and you went from a shorter quirky comedy to a long-ass biographical drama (or vice versa, depending on how you saw it.) This scenario is different. Dune is on an upswing with audiences and critics after two great movies, while the MCU is floundering and desperately doing dumb shit like casting RDJ into the role of Doom. If there's going to be a loser here, it's the MCU. Especially in the current economy.
3
archivedpear Mar 19, 2026 +3
let’s be real. marvel wants dune to move bc they got iced out of imax and are too stubborn to admit they need to be the ones to move the release date
3
OneBillPhil Mar 19, 2026 +3
Avengers peaked with Endgame. I consider it the MCU Finale with everything else being a spinoff.
3
ayyyyybbywannafck Mar 19, 2026 +3
Honestly I'll take the day off and double feature
3
thedinobot1989 Mar 19, 2026 +3
Dunes won because that 3 week imax window is a killer. If doomsday is supposed to be a spectacle why would I want to see it on regular screens?
3
TheHahndude Mar 19, 2026 +3
I think Disney thinks they have the advantage here, seeing as how they took the 18th release date after WB and Dune. I believe Disney expected WB to move Dune so props to WB for sticking to their guns. I strongly believe that Disney is going to have a rude awakening from this. I don’t think Avengers is going to have the draw the think it will. I could see Dune taking a hearty piece of Avenger’s pie. I’m still in the camp that Doomsday doesn’t do better than 700-800 million at the box office but we’ll see. I’m very excited for both films as a movie fan and as an avid box office numbers watcher.
3
steffanlv Mar 19, 2026 +2
Unless reviews are bad, Doomsday will be the highest grossing film since End Game. Disney clearly has the advantage here.
2
RTwhyNot Mar 19, 2026 +9
Has to be Doomsday. Dune 3 has locked up IMAX for a few weeks
9
Ok_Nefariousness9736 Mar 19, 2026 +5
I’m surprised that matters since IMAX is overrated. Dolby is the best way to watch movies nowadays… better picture and better sound.
5
Business-Drag52 Mar 19, 2026 +6
Dune 3 was specifically filmed for imax. They used a combination of 65mm imax film and digital imax cameras to film it
6
austinbarrow Mar 19, 2026 +13
I’ll see Doomsday and then nod along politely for the next year while everyone talks about that other movie.
13
Nwsamurai Mar 19, 2026 +6
Neither film passes $200 million opening weekend, and both are instantly declared failures.
6
Rebel_hooligan Mar 19, 2026 +4
Why?…have they learned nothing from barbiehiemer?
4
jjb0ne Mar 19, 2026 +5
this is manufactured drama
5
The_Patocrator_5586 Mar 19, 2026 +2
I saw both Barbie and Oppenheimer and considered both movies excellent in their own way. If it's that important to people they can see one on a Friday and the other on Saturday or vice versa.
2
AnyTower224 Mar 19, 2026 +2
They don’t have to move
2
Adept-Sir-1704 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Dunesday double feature!
2
undermind84 Mar 19, 2026 +2
These are both going to be 3+ hour movies which would really prohibit the "Barbenhimer" effect. I dont think either movie will move and I am willing to bet that it hurts Avengers more than Dune.
2
space_raffe Mar 19, 2026 +2
Barbenheimer 2.0 Avengers, the epic conclusion
2
Justryan95 Mar 19, 2026 +2
They saw what happen with Oppenheimer and Barbie. They're making it an event and it worked on me. I'm going to watch both instead of just one of the two I originally was planning on.
2
BecauseBatman01 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Ehhh I’d probably watch both tbh. Both are great to watch in theatres.
2
Arkaium Mar 19, 2026 +2
I’ll tell you what I’d do man: two flicks at the same time
2
Significant-Kale-463 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Chicks dig a dude with money.
2
il_the_dinosaur Mar 19, 2026 +2
No let them fight. Maybe both franchises will collapse. It's not gonna happen but it would be fun.
2
mdmoon2101 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Hmmm. One the finish of a trilogy with artistic vision and a legitimate need to exist. The other, another recycled bullshit superhero movie. Why is this even a thing?
2
Redmoonsbstars1 Mar 19, 2026 +2
I will be seeing Dune: Part 3 on Thursday and Doomsday on Friday.

MrArmageddon12 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Avengers better not hog the local IMAX!
2
NCHouse Mar 19, 2026 +2
Do they tho? Just watch em back to back
2
StarOfSyzygy Mar 19, 2026 +2
I don’t understand how people aren’t seeing that this is clearly engineered and intentional.
2
thecoastertoaster Mar 19, 2026 +2
duel it out, f****** cowards. or double feature it.
2
iamuseless Mar 19, 2026 +2
I’m watching whatever is in IMAX. It’s the only decent screen in my area, and the only one I’m willing to pay for. The rest I can watch at home. Now fight!
2
CathedralEngine Mar 19, 2026 +2
I’ve seen as many Dune movies as I have MCU movies, more if you count Lynch’s version. So there’s not really any decision on my part.
2
APartyInMyPants Mar 19, 2026 +2
Meh. Barbenheimer 2.0. Theaters should work to coordinate these screenings so viewers can do a package deal to see both movies. Sell more concessions.
2
PlatinumKanikas Mar 19, 2026 +2
I want to watch the double feature at my local drive-in and drive home at 6am when they’re finally over.
2
innocent_lemon Mar 19, 2026 +2
I’d choose dune
2
United_Bus3467 Mar 19, 2026 +2
As if people didn't do Barbenheimer in one Saturday afternoon.
2
AllISeeAreFireworks Mar 19, 2026 +2
Let them duke it out. Some brilliant marketing and excitement come out of this. Either way, it'll be great for cinema. *Doomsday* will most likely come out on top, though.
2
BigDumDumer Mar 19, 2026 +2
Ah yes because you can't watch multiple movies in one day. You could also just... Not watch it on release day??? IMO the first day is the worst day to go. I'm not about to deal with crowds and limited seating options. Also I'm not about to go in blind to a movie these days with the price it costs to watch a movie, get popcorn, and a drink. I don't need spoilers, but I need to know the general reception before I blow money on going to the movie theater.
2
Crafty_Cherry_9920 Mar 19, 2026 +2
F*** that. Didn't those execs learn from Barbheimer ? People WANT those back to back big screen events.
2
Duckman620 Mar 19, 2026 +2
I’d quite enjoy seeing them the same day. One less trip out into public.
2
2401PenitentTangentx Mar 19, 2026 +2
Make it a dual feature event. Bam. Max hype with marketing budget cut in half. You're welcome hollywood
2
Alarming_Orchid Mar 19, 2026 +2
If Fantastic Four is anything to go by, it won’t be Dune that needs to move
2
Strong-Log-7095 Mar 19, 2026 +2
why not release both on the same day? That way fans can see one in the afternoon and one at night. What are the odds that any of the people in either fanbase couldn't see both because they had a date that night anyway? Its a million to one!
2
SC_TheBursar Mar 19, 2026 +2
The Kwisatz Haderach will return in Avengers: Doomsday.
2
SoybeanArson Mar 19, 2026 +2
Na, just let them battle it out. Many people might decide to make it a double feature
2
amglasgow Mar 19, 2026 +2
I'm unable to give a f*** unfortunately.
2
Mortars2020 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Paul Atreides will return in Avengers: Doomsday
2
MissInkeNoir Mar 19, 2026 +2
We had Barbenheimer... Why not Dunesday?
2
MaleficentOstrich693 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Man, I really miss the days where there 12 different movies in theaters and at least a third of them are rewatchable.
2
CondescendingTracy Mar 19, 2026 +2
Im watching both 🤷🏻‍♂️
2
Unxcused Mar 19, 2026 +2
Or both movies can just have longer thetrical runs so people have time to see them
2
Lenonn Mar 19, 2026 +2
Barbenheimer did just fine. The only problem here is it's right before Christmas. Going to two films is probably a hard sell to a lot of families.
2
BalboaTheRock Mar 19, 2026 +2
They can always move Doomsday up by two months. I wouldn’t be mad 🤣🤷‍♂️
2
deanmass Mar 20, 2026 +2
Not even gonna be close. Dune all the way.
2
BB808BB Mar 19, 2026 +4
Release them same day. Dunesday May the odds be ever in your favor
4
Salt_Example_3493 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Dune has IMAX locked for those dates. They ain’t moving.
2
DevoidHT Mar 19, 2026 +4
Tbh I would probably go to dune over doomsday. Dune 2 was the last movie I saw in theaters and it was phenomenal
4
ChumleyEX Mar 19, 2026 +4
Dune means nothing to me, but I'll probably see Doomsday twice.
4
dancingbriefcase Mar 19, 2026 +3
That's unfortunate. Dune Part 2 was possibly the best visual experience I have seen in theaters
3
ElliottP1707 Mar 19, 2026 +8
I wonder what the public split on this is? I’m seeing Dune day one it comes out, I love those films, and I’m not really fussed about Doomsday. I know Marvel has a lot more popular pull and probably broader appeal to mass audiences. At least it’s an interesting winter for big blockbuster films.
8
ZzzSleep Mar 19, 2026 +2
Doomsday is priority for me only because of the spoiler factor.
2
Honk_Sound Mar 19, 2026 +5
Avengers can move since nobody gives a f*** about it anymore
5
Zealousideal_Rich_70 Mar 19, 2026 +5
Grandpa, dont drink and drive.
5
Caesar161 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Doomsday will absolutely make more than Dune.
2
promixr Mar 19, 2026 +2
Or people just spend 6 hours at the movies that day
2
Drug_fueled_sarcasm Mar 19, 2026 +2
Do people still watch avengers movies? I stopped when everyone died. Figured that was a good out.
2
z01z Mar 19, 2026 +2
if i had to choose one, i'd go see dune. at this point avengers is just more marvel slop i can watch in a couple months on disney+. but dune, i read every book years ago, and it's nice finally seeing a good presentation of it on screen.
2
samurai5625 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Dune's quality since the first film in 2021 completely destroys Marvel's in every regard. Avengers should be the one to move.
2
GrumpyOldDad65 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Love both franchises, but Dune is boring as hell.
2
philthewiz Mar 19, 2026 +2
Some will love tacky hero costumes, some will like good cinema. Plenty to choose from.
2
Themotionalman Mar 19, 2026 +2
MCU has to move, no offence it’s been dropping stinkers lately
2
RoryHoff Mar 19, 2026 +2
I will be buying dune 3 and sneaking into avengers after.
2
ZestySaltShaker Mar 19, 2026 +1
Jokes on them. I’ll just wait till they both come out on streaming services.
1
not_so_littlemermaid Mar 19, 2026 +3
I have found a simple solution to this problem, as an audience member: I'm not going to see Doomsday, based fully on the quality of this Marvel phase.
3
TopperWildcat13 Mar 19, 2026 +2
I think Disney knows they’re about to get crushed. Dune 3 is highly anticipated and I feel like maybe I’m out of the loop but does anyone care about this phase of Marvel at all?
2
bluequarz Mar 19, 2026 +8
Let's be serious here. Dune 2 made as much money in the US as the new Fantastic Four movie made last year. Avengers will have ten times the star power and character nostalgia that F4 from last year had. Avengers 1 - 1.5b global gross Avengers Age of Ultron - 1.4b Avengers IW - 2b Avengers Endgame - 2.8b Dune 2 - 714m For more recent examples of nostalgia filled movies No Way Home - 1.9b, Deadpool & Wolverine - 1.3b These new Avengers movies could drop 50% from the highs of the franchise and still make double what Dune 2 made.

TopperWildcat13 Mar 19, 2026 +3
I guess what I’m wondering is, are they worried about Dune taking over their weekend though. I know a lot of people are going to see this just because superhero movies make money even when they suck, and not that Dune is going to make more money than it. But that people who want to see Dune are actually excited about it.

bluequarz Mar 19, 2026 +5
Dune will never open higher than Avengers. There's a very loud section of the internet who is very excited to see Dune, all the film bros and cinephiles who die for the visual of the movie and Villeneuve's creative vision, who will go immediately. They're probably enough for a 90-120m opening weekend. Dune 2 opened to 82m with no competiton. HOWEVER the Marvel fanbase is on another level. All the Avengers movies have opened above 200m. All of them. Avengers Infinity War opened to almost as much as Dune 2 did in its entire run. Endgame opened to 357m. Hell Captain America Brave New World last year, critical flop and bad movie, opened higher than Dune 2. Fantastic Four last year opened higher by almost 40m. Marvel fans will rush to see the movie opening weekend and most likely Avengers will double Dunes opening. But both of those numbers will probably be lower than they could be because of the movies having to share screens. Avengers will prob get more screens and non IMAX premium formats while Dune gets the IMAX.
5
ZzzSleep Mar 19, 2026 +3
lol there's no universe in which Doomsday is crushed.
3
NoTitleChamp Mar 19, 2026 +2
"I’m out of the loop but does anyone care about this phase of Marvel at all?" Going by trailer reactions, yes.
2
Zealousideal_Rich_70 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Yes your out pf the loop. Spiderman for an examble. The Trailers has hundreds of Millions of views. The Film will eat Dune 3 for breakfast. So a avengers movie after 7 years. Loses against dune? Come on.
2
TheBatmanIRL Mar 19, 2026 +1
Dune probably can't move due to the imax window it secured.
