Carl's supposed to be regular dude who gets strong through the dungeon, not someone who already looks like he benchpresses volkswagens for breakfast

As he jumps down from the murder dozer and obliterates the goblin engineer during his first hour in the dungeon, he describes himself as 6' 3", 230 lb and not as good of shape as when he on active duty but still been going to the gym 3x a week for years.

I've got a buddy who joined the Coast Guard after college. Not sure if it's everyone, but he and his fellow Coasties I've met spent a fair amount of time lifting weights. That's also a good base to go into construction work, which is a pretty physical job. But, yeah, they were significantly bigger than average. Not jacked, however. An option Carl took several books in.

I mean I agree though he’s definitely a bit above average, with his military background and physical labor job. Like he can be in good shape but not a body builder

Too old to begin the training.
Alan’s great and he could nail it, but I don’t think he wants to be pinned down for a decade.

Man, if the shows made good enough to last that long, that would be amazing! I love the books!

This is who I picture when listening to the audio book but I picture home like 15 years younger.

Finally, 1 person agrees with me. Who's next?

To be fair I think he’s too old now.

Unfortunately (both because it’s not physically possible and because he kinda sucks now) I think the best casting would be 2013-era Chris Pratt, right before he got Marvel-jacked

I agree. He maybe would've been a pick 2 years ago. I dont like him as a person now and dont like him in movies anymore.

Yeah he transitioned really quickly from “likeable guy who stars in fun movies and isn’t like, an all-star actor but at least *can* act” to “really unlikable guy who stars in whatever big budget slop Hollywood throws his way and doesn’t appear to put any effort in”

Carl's dad in the audiobooks (Patrick Warburton) would have been great about 30 years ago when he was on Seinfeld.

Nathan Fillion is the only person who can play him and he's way too old.
Just make it animated.

Joe Keery, Evan Peters, or dark horse Robert Pattinson were some of my first thoughts.

While I like Ritchson I don't think he comes off as an everyday average joe. Personally, I'd like to see Charlie Day get the role. His reactions would be great to the absurdity of the situation and his general contempt for cats (kidding). lol
