Dang, I was really hoping this was going to be based on the comic.

With Eli Roth at the helm? Dodged a bullet.

But where's Clint Howard?

This is where I’m at.

Clint Howard mentioned in an interview with Dead Meat that he is in this movie

Eli Roth, director of the Borderlands movie?
14
Armandonerd Apr 1, 2026 +1
With Tim Roth!

These two comments in sequence were my exact initial thoughts.

sloppymoves Mar 31, 2026 +24
I would love an anthology TV series, not a movie, based on the comic. But I don't think anyone would get nearly as experimental with it, and no audience would like it because every episode is gonna be such a downer. So I can't see it ever getting funded.
24
Daeval Mar 31, 2026 +13
I feel like Black Mirror established that being aggressively depressing isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker for a modern anthology series.
13
sloppymoves Mar 31, 2026 +3
I guess. But the comic even gets into children dying in "slow mo", which I doubt would make it to a TV show.
3
_ROBEAST_ Mar 31, 2026 +3
I almost imagine it feeling like Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction? but every episode is fact and it makes you feel shitty.
3
immortal1982 Mar 31, 2026 +3
Funny you should say that Gough and Millar (Smallville and Wednesday) have been working on it over at Sony TV last i heard. Edit: as a tv series, not a movie.
3
MVRKHNTR Mar 31, 2026 +1
Sounds like that's a movie which seems like a terrible fit for the series. I imagine it would either go like the Scary Stories movie where all of the plots are happening simultaneously and lack impact or they adapt the handful of issues expanding on the Ice Cream Man's story which would miss the point of why those work after seeing him in the background for several issues first.
1
RoShamPoe Mar 31, 2026 +3
I was thinking the same thing. I had to stop reading the comic it fucked me up, which is the nicest compliment I can give it.
3
azul360 Mar 31, 2026 +2
Wait it's not? DX. Now I'm not excited at all :(
2
FormerShitPoster Mar 31, 2026 +1
Its actually based on the Van Halen song
1
Sa7aSa7a Mar 31, 2026 +2
Shit. I was excited until I saw your comment. Was a fantastic comic that would certainly fill a needed horror show hole in my life.
2
MarbleMimic Apr 1, 2026 +1
It's not?! Okay, now I'm sad
1
LordRobin------RM Mar 31, 2026 +1
Which comic? The horror anthology series, or the Junji Ito manga story?
1
stereosalvation Mar 31, 2026 +8
Horror anthology.
8
ChicagoAuPair Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yeah? Well, I was really hoping Eli Roth would turn out to be a good director, but things don’t always turn out the way you hoped they would…
1
Odd-Necessary3807 Mar 31, 2026
Was it not?
0
RevenueKooky Mar 31, 2026 +5
I think it’s an original idea from Roth about a serial killer who also happens to sell Ice Cream
5
skitz319 Mar 31, 2026 +12
It’s a remake of a 1995 movie
12
franlcie Mar 31, 2026 +6
It’s not, actually
6
Joey-WilcoXXX Mar 31, 2026 +5
Apparently it’s not officially a remake though? That’s what I keep hearing at least.
5
TerrifierBlood Mar 31, 2026 +2
Check out the 2017 Ice Cream Truck horror film. That one is good
2
jimbojangles1987 Mar 31, 2026 +1
Somebody should make a movie based on the Candy Man serial killer in Houston during the early 70s.
1
Merickson- Mar 31, 2026 +114
Where's Clint Howard?
114
RevenueKooky Mar 31, 2026 +22
Maybe he has a cameo 👀

James from the youtube channel Dead Meat got to [meet him for a bit last year](https://youtube.com/shorts/9lLF0wDDCs0?si=jg2FMoLAJjTkTsMa) and Clint told him about the movie before it was announced so he might be involved in some way.

99
ShanaAfterAll Mar 31, 2026 +149
Mentored by Tarantino AND Lynch, and it doesn't show in the work one bit.
149
EricSanderson Apr 1, 2026 +24
I seriously don't understand how he keeps getting work. Everything about his movies - from the writing to the acting to the pacing/editing - is almost painfully bad. Some people try to say it's intentional but it's very obviously not. He came up during the torture p*** craze but he should have faded away with it.
24
Midnight_Oil_ Apr 1, 2026 +1
He must finish on time and on budget, basically. You don't really hear stories of his productions being insanely over budget or production hells, outside of Borderlands that is
1
LilPonyBoy69 Apr 1, 2026 +5
I felt it on Thanksgiving. Is it great? No, absolutely not. Is it a fun themed-horror that is now my go-to Thanksgiving slasher? Yeah. He's had a huge amount of misses in his career, and he's been given more chances than he deserves. But if he finds a lane in camp, themed-horror flicks, I'll give it a shot at least.
5
RumHamComesback Mar 31, 2026 +15
I still remember how obnoxious his fans were acting like they were all badasses for watching Hostel. His career rode the torture p*** wave and when it ended he needed to do studio work to get back into horror again.
15
Ehzranight Mar 31, 2026 +19
Cabin fever rocks.
19
RevenueKooky Mar 31, 2026 +5
I love Hostel 1&2 and Cabin Fever. Wasn’t really a fan of his more modern films. Knock Knock is alright but for other reasons and The Green Inferno was solid but I was not a fan of Thanksgiving
5
Stepfordhusband69 Mar 31, 2026 +14
I loved Thanksgiving.  It’s hilarious
14
Velkyn01 Mar 31, 2026 +13
>Knock Knock is alright but for other reasons  I can think of four.
13
mgsgamer1 Mar 31, 2026
I can think of at least 2 more, maybe 4 not positive on that but definitely 2
0
DLRsFrontSeats Mar 31, 2026 +10
>The Green Inferno was solid Lol
10
EricSanderson Apr 1, 2026 +4
Legitimately one of the worst horror movies I've ever seen. Including independent films.
4
CaliggyJack Apr 1, 2026 -1
I loved Hostel 1, Cabin Fever, Green Inferno, Tha ksgiving, and Death Wish, but didn't care for anything else.
-1
ArcadeOptimist Mar 31, 2026 +3
His movies are trash, and Cabin Fever sucked :)
3
Stepfordhusband69 Mar 31, 2026 -9
You’re entitled to be wrong
-9
SploogeLoser Mar 31, 2026 -3
Except the fact he’s a mediocre director who’s ONLY decent film is his first one
-3
Stepfordhusband69 Mar 31, 2026 +2
I like Cabin Fever, Hostel, and Thanksgiving
2
SoulMaekar Apr 1, 2026 -1
Cabin fever, thanksgiving, green inferno, nations pride, hostel damn good movies.
-1
conatreides Mar 31, 2026 +42
I don’t think I’m giving this f*** any more money or time
42
Diogenese5000 Mar 31, 2026 +178
They’re still letting this fucken hack make movies?
178
JessieJ577 Mar 31, 2026 +39
He makes the money back with his small budget horror movies. Plus dude has been connected in the industry for 30 years. I don’t think he’ll be doing bigger movies anymore but sticking with these kinds of movies.
39
Diogenese5000 Mar 31, 2026 +6
Seems like an accurate assessment
6
RumHamComesback Mar 31, 2026 +8
Yeah, he's making low-budget horror films that turn a quick buck. He's not exactly directing summer tentpoles studios back their fiscal quarters on.
8
Diogenese5000 Mar 31, 2026 +2
Still nice work if you can get it. And would be nice to see someone with talent and style get those opportunities, but if he’s getting the right amount of butts in seats, he’s doing what he was hired to do. Can’t knock the hustle, I just don’t enjoy his work.
2
Stepfordhusband69 Mar 31, 2026 -1
He does have talent and style.  If you don’t like him that’s fine, don’t watch his movies.  But he keeps getting opportunities because he can deliver a production that makes money
-1
Diogenese5000 Mar 31, 2026 +1
First part is debatable. 2nd part isn’t. He makes sense because he makes dollars. That’s how it is.
1
Stepfordhusband69 Mar 31, 2026
I agree, that’s what I said
0
mrpopenfresh Apr 1, 2026 +1
Small budget horror is the most reliable ROI there is in moviemaking.

BadNixonBad Mar 31, 2026 +5
I went to a 30 Seconds to Mars show in like…. 2005 or 2006? So I was 15ish. After the show he spoke with some fans - Jared Leto gave our friend his number and asked her to come to an after party. She was 16... It was so creepy and casual I’ll never forget it
5

In a better world he’d be 30 Seconds From Jail

Plus it's coming out in August. Regularly known as 'dump month' for films.
0
ozplissken Mar 31, 2026 +17
İt really is unfathomable, what does he have on Hollywood that they keep letting him make films? Some people get cancelled after one flop (Josh Trank, Fantastic Four) and never get invited back in but this talentless f*** keeps on trucking. The atrocious clusterfuck Death Wish remake ALONE should have had him shat out of Hollywood.
17
mikeyfreshh Mar 31, 2026 +34
His movies are pretty c**** to make and generally provide a decent return on investment. Thanksgiving made $46 million on a $15 million budget.
34
Diogenese5000 Mar 31, 2026 -4
Ugh. Hate to say it, but there’s the ugly truth. On time/on budget and profitable is a winning combo for sure. I just can not vibrate with this guy’s movies at all.
-4
TheDroneZoneDome Mar 31, 2026 +8
The ugly truth? His movies make money because people are choosing to spent their time and money to see them. This isn’t an “ugly” truth.
8
MVRKHNTR Mar 31, 2026 +5
I really don't understand why some people are so against the idea of a piece of media they don't like existing. The guy likes making movies, he gets to make movies, people like the movies and they get to watch the movies. I really don't see what the problem is.
5
Suspicious_Radio_848 Mar 31, 2026 +2
How dare people spend their money and enjoy things they don’t approve of! If they don’t like it nobody else can. Crazy mindset.
2
Stepfordhusband69 Mar 31, 2026 +8
Thanksgiving was awesome
8
ozplissken Mar 31, 2026 +1
Yeah that's cause someone else shot 30% of that movie  Look it up, a lesser known more talented horror filmmaker did second unit filming on Thanksgiving
1
bbqsauceboi Mar 31, 2026 +1
These second unit directors can really make a difference. Chad Stahleski and David Leitch shot the big action scenes of Captain America Civil War, which are the best scenes of that movie
1
ozplissken Mar 31, 2026 +2
Exactly, people just don't know how a film is actually made and think the director does everything which simply isn't true. Speilberg did second unit on The Goonies and shot the wishing well scene and a lot of the exteriors with the cliffs by the sea apparently.
2
Stepfordhusband69 Mar 31, 2026 +1
I didn’t know that
1
ozplissken Mar 31, 2026
I forget his name but he was on The Movie Crypt podcast saying he shot all the exteriors on Thanksgiving while Eli worked with the actors and did all the close up stuff.

-1

Nah. Not generally. Tend to call em like I see em. What I’m talking about here is anthropology 101. In group/Out group. Read a book you soft bois. You think those dynamics aren’t present and accelerated in a super competitive environment like Hollywood? Sorry the world isn’t a perfect little meritocracy like your mother told you.

It’s extremely well known that Spyglass Media and its producers, who fund both Scream and a lot of Roth, are Zionists. They are openly pro-Israel. It’s not a conspiracy or “anti-Semitic”.

He generates a positive ROI, employs a ton of people regularly and he’s a Zionist in an industry where a lot of prominent Executives are also Zionist. I’m saying this as a person who turned down working on a Roth film, and has many friends that work in his films.
