Do you mean the dome itself or the museum? I lived in Osaka and have been to Hiroshima many times. The dome is entirely shut off. The peace park ENCOURAGES children to play, people to get ice cream, and I even saw a dog wedding. Which, admittedly, was a first. They also have really good hard lemonade lol. The point of the peace park around the dome is to show that humans can prosper despite the depravity of some. That's the whole idea. My father was stationed in Hawaii, and I lived on Oahu as a kid. I started snorkeling there when I was young, and there are countless beautiful places to snorkel on that island. The USS Arizona is not one of them — it’s a graveyard. 1,177 crew members were killed, and more than 900 of them remain entombed in the ship. Choosing that spot for a “VIP snorkel” feels twisted and deeply disrespectful to the people who died there.

My grandfather graduated from Naval welding school right as Pearl Harbor was happening. He was also an avid scuba diver. His first assignment was to try to cut stuck people out of the submerged chambers of the USS Arizona. He could hear them knocking underwater. I only learned about this recently because my father never wanted to talk about it, because the memory haunted my grandfather until he killed himself in the early 80s before I was born. F*** Kash Patel.

**Pearl Harbor is completely closed to recreational swimming, snorkeling, or diving.** It’s an active U.S. Navy base, and the USS Arizona is a federally protected war grave. More than 900 crew members are still entombed inside the ship, so the National Park Service and the Navy treat the entire area like a cemetery. The only people allowed in the water are Navy or National Park Service divers doing official maintenance, preservation, or inspection work. In theory, the Navy *can* grant special access to high‑level dignitaries, but it’s almost never used — and never for recreational snorkeling. So no, the public can’t snorkel there, and what happened here is not a normal or acceptable activity.

For those curious why many bodies of the USS Arizona were never recovered, it's due to several factors. The ship is a mangled, twisted wreck from the explosion. That also makes it every dangerous to swim in. Like others have said, it's still leading oil. Also, the bodies are very badly decomposed. At this point, it would be pointless as, even if you could get to the bodies, it would probably be impossible to identify them. The whole thing is one big graveyard. A memorial to those who died on duty in a horrible sneak attack. Those who lost loved ones who weren't found know where to go to pay their respects. What you don't do is try and snorkel there for many reasons. My god, is there even ONE normal person on Trump's team. Just one?!

It’s a gravesite. I went there in 2002 and a WWII vet was one of the speakers at the inside presentation before they take you out over the water. You could have heard a pin drop as he spoke. He stressed that he and his brother survived, and then survived the war overseas, but there were casualties that went down in the ships and they’re still there. It’s not a vacation spot for a drunken frat boy.

My great uncle died on the USS Arizona and is still entombed in its hull. What a disrespectful thing to do at such a solemn and sacred place.

Having visited this site, and remembering a service member in full dress crying as he explained the detail, this raises such anger in me.
