Best eyebrows on TV right now.  But seriously, fun show and Emilia and Haley Lu are great.

Haley set the tone right with her initially being the main comic relief, but I liked how Emilia gradually embraced the silliness in her character The actor who played Vasiliev was also pretty great as a villain, I think he would've been worthy of a nomination

I’d rather not dox myself any further. But, you’re on the right track.

Well your Listnook username is "I cut shows" so editor seemed obvious, I wasn't trying to make you doxx yourself!!

I_Cut_Shows Apr 7, 2026 +5
Totally. I was half goofing around. If someone cared enough, they could definitely figure out my name based on this user. I was the VFX Editor on this season. There is only one, which is why I talked about doxxing. Ha!

One thing I love is that on Futurama the basic animation style is that you draw the characters without eyebrows. Until Emilia guest starred and, even though Marianne was a one-off character, [they took the time to give her eyebrows.](https://theinfosphere.org/images/8/81/Marianne.png)

Some serious eyebrow power there.

Ponies will be submitted at the Emmys as Comedy. Also, Emilia Clarke will be submitted as Lead Actress and Haley Lu Richardson will be submitted as Supporting Actress.

Emilia was fine, but I thought Haley Lu killed it.

She was great in White Lotus too

In the last two episodes when Lu’s story really comes together she was especially phenomenal.

yeah, she stopped having the one face: mouth agaped

Toby_O_Notoby Apr 7, 2026 +20
Hey moron, we get it. You've posted the same comment not only here but also [here,](https://www.listnook.com/r/television/comments/1sehnwb/emilia_clarke_and_haley_lu_richardson_front/oer2vva/) [here](https://www.listnook.com/r/television/comments/1sehnwb/emilia_clarke_and_haley_lu_richardson_front/oer2u2w/) [and here](https://www.listnook.com/r/television/comments/1sehnwb/emilia_clarke_and_haley_lu_richardson_front/oer2y1z/) And while we're at it, it's not f****** "agaped". Agaped Isn’t a word because "agape" is a noun, meaning it doesn't have a past tense. So you're being both repetitive *and* stupid at the same time.
20
ohdearitsrichardiii Apr 7, 2026 +1
"Agape" is an adjective or adverb. It's a noun when you mean the christian concept of "agape", but that's a completely different words, they just happened to be spelled the same
1
ohdearitsrichardiii Apr 7, 2026 +1
It's "mouth agape" not "mouth agaped"
1
maeynor Apr 7, 2026 +11
Maybe true, but I thought Emilia’s performance fit the part more

In the beginning she felt kind of over the top (and I’m sure it was just a me thing) but by like the midpoint I had the most fun watching her and I really appreciated her performance. I hope they get a season 2, it was a fun story and I fell in love with the two lead ls and their relationship

Hailey Lu was pure charisma in this! Such a fun show!

Admitone83 Apr 7, 2026 +18
Comedy....Not something I would label this as, feels off like they did to The Bear.
18
jbaker1225 Apr 7, 2026 +21
Ponies is MUCH funnier than The Bear. Haley Lu is hilarious in it. Yes, it has a lot of very serious elements, but also a lot of very farcical ones.
21
jchusker Apr 7, 2026 +10
I had a feeling they might go that route. I'm torn on how to feel about it. I liked season 1, but I don't really like the idea of dramas trying to pass as comedies for awards.
10
SituationSoap Apr 7, 2026 +8
The problem is that if you try to take Ponies seriously, it just doesn't hold up. It has loads of plot holes and basically obliterates believability from the drop. While watching it, the most fun I had with it was when I decided to treat it as a live action spinoff of *Archer*. If you try to take it as something even approaching a serious drama it's not a good show.
8
BoxOfNothing Apr 7, 2026 +9
Any attempt at labelling the genre of this show should absolutely include the word comedy in it in my opinion. It wasn't just a drama with occasional bits of comedy in it
9
HotBrownFun Apr 7, 2026 +5
This is a comedy, compared to slow horses or the Americans
5
Four_beastlings Apr 7, 2026 +3
I thought it had some hilarious moments and it definitely didn't take itself too seriously
3
Pandaisblue Apr 7, 2026 +1
Eh, clearly trying much harder for a comedic tone than The Bear (especially later seasons) but yeah it's still more of a drama first with funny moments rather than the reverse. I enjoyed it but I'm not sure I'd really push it for awards beyond maybe costuming/set. It was a *good* good show but not *great,* y'know?
1
pittyh Apr 7, 2026 +1
I was going to say the same thing, didn't feel like a comedy at all.
1
the_ballmer_peak Apr 7, 2026 -1
The categories basically correspond to run time rather than content.
-1
clevesaur Apr 7, 2026 +15
Ponies' episodes are about ~50 minutes long so that doesn't apply here.
15
idkalan Apr 7, 2026 +3
The Emmy's and Golden Globes removed the run-time restrictions a while ago because of streamers going over the "standard" run-time. The Bear just kept putting itself in the Comedy category because they knew they could still do it
3
Big-Soup7013 Apr 7, 2026 +1
This hasn’t been true in years.
1
spencerlevey Apr 7, 2026 +27
Haley is such a scene stealer in this.
27
Conscious-Quarter423 Apr 7, 2026 -16
her only facial expression: mouth agaped
-16
Phil152 Apr 7, 2026 +1
That's not accurate, btw, but I'll come back to that later. I've written this up before, and if I'm doubling up with you, my apologies. But it's an interesting question from a structural viewpoint thinking about the show as a whole and how it needs to develop. Ponies (like many shows) is trying to juggle and mix multiple genres. That's pretty basic. It mixes up the formula and helps the showrunners hide the twists. It also gives them a little more freedom to take big swings, because the show can jump from comedy to suspense to action to tragedy and back to comedy very quickly. If the showrunners write themselves into a jam, something silly or off the wall can happen and they're clear. (E.g., Ivanna popping out unexpectedly from behind a door and clobbering Andrei with a standing ashtray before he kills Bea.) Genre hopping can be useful. If I had to pick one genre lane that is the throughline, I'd say it is the buddy story between Bea and Twila. That's a classic odd couple matchup that unexpectedly clicks and will be the center of the show going forward. But there's also the spy vs. spy drama, the mystery/action/adventure theme, the tragedy, and -- never far from the surface -- the comedic element. Twila is written as an over-the-top caricature at the start because she carries most of the comedic load for season 1. She's a wrecking ball and all the other characters play off her. HLR played opposite Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya in The White Lotus, so that comparison comes to mind. Twila is Ponies' Tanya. The thing about outrageous clowning is not only that it is exaggerated (Archie Bunker, Ron Swanson, Tanya, there are many examples), but that it can become one-dimensional, predictable and boring if carried on too long. So the question for any show with this character near the core is how to develop the clown.  A LOT depends on how long the showrunners think they will have to unmask the clown ... and that's a hard call, because once the clown is unmasked and we see the real character underneath, the clown is not nearly as funny. We come to see the real person beneath the mask. That person may be hostile, dangerous, hurting, vulnerable, empathetic or whatever, but they're wearing a mask to hide something.  Ponies begins with Twila presented as someone abrasive enough to be dislikeable. By the end of episode 8, she's a vulnerable and sympathetic character, at least when she's talking to Bea, who she now trusts -- and for Twila, trust is very hard. But as to the "one facial expression:" nonsense. Twila's unmasking starts in episode 1, when Dane pulls Bea and Twila out of the Christmas party and gives them the bad news. Bea is of course instantly shattered. Twila reorients instantly. There is no mouth agape sneer when -- her first reaction -- she calmly asks Dane, "What are we supposed to tell people?" Nor is there any sneer when she takes Bea in hand and starts to talk her through it. The sneer does reappear, however, when Dane gives her the cover story, which Twila instantly spots as a cover story, and that makes her angry. Twila isn't sneering on the plane ride home as she's flipping through her passport. The mask slips off and back on a couple of times at the memorial service at the CIA: she's open and supportive when she steadies Bea; she sneers when she realizes that a small memorial star and a cover story are all that she and Bea are going to get from the CIA. She's not sneering when she and Bea have a drink afterwards, share a bit, and make the spur of the moment decision to go back. And on and on. Twila is code switching all the time. The mask is off with people she trusts. It's on with people she doesn't know, or who she distrusts, or who seem threatening. A lot of Twila's best scenes are in the bubble -- and jog my memory here: is there any scene in which she's mouth agape sneering when she's talking to Ray? Cheryl, yes, to the extreme. But she and Ray seem to instantly understand each other. They are going to be a team. Her scenes with Dane are great. The more Twila builds a circle of trust, the less she will wear the mask. Twila reorients instantly because she's a graduate of the school of hard knocks. She could give Rocky Balboa pointers about picking oneself up off the canvas. The reason the first Rocky Balboa movie is by far the best of that franchise (which has gone on far too long) is that it's the long, slow unmasking of Rocky. And once the mask is revealed for what it is, viewers can never again see him with any aura of mystery. That's going to be the tricky part of writing Twila going forward. Once the mask is off, viewers will be rooting for the Twila we've come to know -- and the mask will now be reduced to nothing more than Twila's con job when she feels the needs to play too tough to be hurt. Where is the show going to find its comedy once Twila is unmasked? Bea now sees the real Twila. I think Ray does too, although he doesn't know as much as Bea. Dane has a pretty good idea; his scenes with Twila are terrific for both characters. The more Twila is unmasked, the less she can be a clown.

Was hoping this was a renewal article

monsieurxander Apr 7, 2026 +6
It's Peacock. They cancel most of their shows. Only two of their shows have made it to a third season.
6
K1llswitch93 Apr 7, 2026 -13
Does it have a cliffhanger? I'm planning to watch this, but if it's cancelled I would probably not bother to watch it unless it's really good.
-13
jtho78 Apr 7, 2026 +33
this why most good shows get canceled after one season
33
Toby_O_Notoby Apr 7, 2026 +7
To be fair to OP, this is an especially egregious example of what he's talking about. When we got to the finale, I went to fire up the next episode because that was so *not* an ending. I naturally assumed there was more to the season. I mean, it would be one thing if they knew they were going to have a second season. Or if they ended it in a way that at least gives closure to the main plot but leaves it open for more stories to be told. But leaving four or five open-ended questions, some of which were introduced *within 10 minutes of the credits rolling*, doesn't constitute as an ending. And frankly, if you ask audieces to give 8 hours of their time to your project you owe them said ending.
7
Four_beastlings Apr 7, 2026 +1
Every twist in the finale was telegraphed from early on. Of anything, that was my only complaint about this show.
1
DaRighDehr Apr 7, 2026 +9
Major cliffhanger lol fun show all around though I still wouldn't skip it even if you feel it might not be renewed
9
Flimsy_Big7991 Apr 7, 2026 +7
You don't want to watch the show because it might get cancelled, but it's only going to get cancelled if people aren't watching it.
7
KeremyJyles Apr 7, 2026 +4
That's a problem for the producers, they should stop doing off-putting shit like that.
4
jbaker1225 Apr 7, 2026 +2
It’s just basic supply and demand. If show X costs $10 million a season to make, but only makes $7 million its first year, it’s bad business so say, “yeah, but there may actually be another $6 million worth of people who are waiting to see if it’s renewed first, so the second season will be worth it.”
2
KeremyJyles Apr 7, 2026 +3
Supply and demand has nothing to do with them stupidly leaving plots unfinished and driving away potential viewers.
3
K1llswitch93 Apr 7, 2026 +1
I get the downvotes, it's just that i've invested time on multiple shows with cliffhangers that ended up getting unresolved which sucks and with my schedule right now I barely get to watch new shows (I can only squeeze around two hours per day to watch shows or movies and that's if I'm still in the mood to watch). Most shows I currently invest my time in are either mini series, completed, shows i've invested time already and those 30 minute sitcoms that barely has a story. If this does get a season 2 i'll probably start watching it.

human_kittens Apr 7, 2026 +99
Please please watch Ponies everyone it’s phenomenal and I need a season two! Fun, s***, mysterious, funny, just a complete blast
99
ComputerJerk Apr 7, 2026 +17
> Please please watch Ponies everyone it’s phenomenal and I need a season two! Fun, s***, mysterious, funny, just a complete blast I genuinely want to watch it, but it's just not available anywhere I can find in the UK. Even Peacock streaming isn't available in the UK. It's wild in this day and age it hasn't found it's way onto another service for international distribution - It seems like free money for the studio and an easy (and probably relatively c****) win for any streaming service looking to fill their slate.
17
PlayfulSuicide Apr 7, 2026 -12
It’s US Cold War propaganda, no reason for it to be streamed in the UK.
-12
SynthD Apr 7, 2026 +14
Three of the lead actors are British.
14
ComputerJerk Apr 7, 2026 +4
And here I was thinking it was a documentary
4
Tex_Conway Apr 7, 2026 +1
Its not. The spycraft is weak. Characters are really good or bad at their jobs depending on what the story needs. Still a fun show.
1
hngryhngryhippo Apr 7, 2026 +12
I mean, it was okay. It was fun to watch at times, but the story is just a bit too outlandish for me. I wouldn't say it's even close to a top tier show.
12
SituationSoap Apr 7, 2026 +5
Yes. The show works best if you treat it like a live action spinoff of *Archer*. It's not as funny as that, but it's the only version of the show that makes any sense.
5
MeatTornado25 Apr 7, 2026 +2
I could definitely see Twila showing up to a mission bragging about her new tactle-neck sweater.

The show really should have been even more of a comedy. It didn't quite know what it was but I found the comedic side of it to be the best.
39
LumiereGatsby Apr 7, 2026 +41
I heard this was good but didn’t dive into more details. So what’s the final word on season 1?
41
m111zz Apr 7, 2026 +34
Honestly I was hooked, isn’t like the best show in the world, but it was funny, acting was good, i also did a big binge as I was so keen for each episode which hasn’t happened to me in ages
34
SituationSoap Apr 7, 2026 +6
Episode to episode it's kind of fun, but it has major plot holes and stretches believability from the drop. It works better as a comedy, but it doesn't lean hard enough into being funny, and it doesn't really work at all as a serious drama. It's a flawed show but you've almost certainly watched much worse shows. It's alright.
6
berlinbaer Apr 7, 2026 +5
really wanted to like it, but ditched it halfway through. everything apart from acting feels slightly undercooked and eventually the story drags along so much that i didn't care anymore.
5
TH3PhilipJFry Apr 7, 2026 +3
It won’t change your life, but it exists if you wanna turn your brain off. Don’t expect a tightly tuned spy thriller or anything.
3
OssotSromo Apr 7, 2026 +3
We quit with an episode and a half left because neither of us really cared
3
Admitone83 Apr 7, 2026 +11
Idk why sum1 gave you a downvote >.> valid question. I'm 4 episodes in, I like it.
11
Horny_GoatWeed Apr 7, 2026 +12
It's fine. Worth watching, but keep your expectations in check. It got slightly better as the show went on, in my opinion.
12
MeatTornado25 Apr 7, 2026 +3
Oh I disagree completely. I liked the beginning but the 2nd half devolved into utter nonsense that I found impossible to take seriously, even when the show was playing it completely straight as serious spy business.
3
vorg7 Apr 7, 2026 +4
it's good fun. Watch it so we get a season 2!
4
woasnoafsloaf Apr 7, 2026 +3
Not groundbreaking, but a really fun time!
3
bobtheflob Apr 7, 2026 +19
The show wasn't bad, but honestly I was a bit disappointed. I think you just need to have your expectations in the right place going in. The two leads are charming and have good chemistry. But you need to have a lot of willing suspension of disbelief with the plot.
19
_methuselah_ Apr 7, 2026 +4
Yeah, this. I wanted to like it, but just… no. Three episodes & I gave up. It didn’t really seem to be much of anything.
4
Phil152 Apr 7, 2026 +9
C'mon Peacock. Make season 2 official.  The tea leaves suggest to me that the word has been passed, but official confirmation would be nice. Too long a delay increases the risk that actors will sign for something else. It also kills momentum and erodes viewer interest.  Git 'er done and greenlight this already.
9
CFT1982 Apr 7, 2026 +13
This was a comedy? Like why even have a comedy category if anything with a funny moment here and there can submit as one?
13
dragonmp93 Apr 7, 2026 +11
Well, this classifies better as Comedy than the Bear.
11
samspopguy Apr 7, 2026 +1
i found the bear funnier then ponies

BBGettyMcclanahan Apr 7, 2026 +4
Shogun had more jokes than the bear and it was a drama in the same year lol
4
samspopguy Apr 7, 2026
no it didnt
0
Big-Soup7013 Apr 7, 2026 +12
Mostly because nobody has figured out a way to define “comedy” vs. “drama” objectively so they can’t come up with a rule.
12
estephens13 Apr 7, 2026 +3
They need to create a dramedy category, there are too many shows that ride that line now.
3
Big-Soup7013 Apr 7, 2026 +3
You would still have to define all three objectively.
3
estephens13 Apr 7, 2026 +2
But how would you even start to do that? I feel like adding the category would at least give some breathing room for some of the dumber category placements we've been seeing the last few years. Certainly not perfect, but could be a real improvement.
2
Big-Soup7013 Apr 7, 2026 +1
That’s my point, the problem is they’ve tried and it turns out to just not work. Also if you add a dramedy distinction you’re a couple dozen categories so it spirals pretty quickly.
1
peachhoneymango Apr 7, 2026 +1
I really loved this show but I it didn’t know what it wanted to be which ultimately hurts it
1

Really enjoyed it, would be surprised if it was renewed but really hope it will be.
7

Already was! You're in luck. If it doesn't get cancelled after the fact like a lot of streaming shows seem to be doing now for various reasons (Dexter: Original Sin, Pokerface...)
0
Agent_Kozak Apr 7, 2026 +4
it hasn't been renewed yet
4
_BoxingTheStars_ Apr 7, 2026 +1
I watched both of those. Very unhappy with the situations there.
1
primal_slayer Apr 7, 2026 +5
Will Peacock even renew it? (they're allergic to most things past 1-2 seasons)
5
goddamnitwhalen Apr 7, 2026 +2
Everybody had better be as mad about this as they are about *The Bear*.
2
muskegthemoose Apr 7, 2026 +2
Sad. It's better than average, but average these days is c***, so it's still nowhere near award-worthy.

Vulture2k Apr 7, 2026 +3
Tried to watch it, just didn't hook me. ;(
3
com-mis-er-at-ing Apr 7, 2026 +3
Even more laughs than the Bear.

I'd not heard of this show but just seen Adrian Lester is in it so going to give it a try. Hustle is the one show I miss the most.

Fun show, but I'm not sure it should be seriously considered for comedy emmies
1
samspopguy Apr 7, 2026 +1
does this mean we are getting a season 2?
1
-Clayburn Apr 7, 2026 +1
It was better than I expected it to be. I actually care to see where the story goes. I am worried that Haley Lu Richardson's schtick is going to grow tired soon though.

It's only half finished, wait till they tell the story or they are guaranteed enough funding for another two seasons. But you don't deserve to win awards for unfinished projects.

Never heard of it and now I'm intrigued, money well spent to get it into Variety

I will watch anything with Haley Lu, she rocks.
1
scorpgurl Apr 7, 2026 +1
Can't wait for season 2, Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu are amazing. I wish I had Twila's confidence and style. I was also surprised to see Vic Michaelis. I found this show because of Showcase. I am Canadian and do not watch streaming services. I really hope we get at least 1 more season.

The trailer did nothing for me, 0 desire to watch it. Is it any good?

Same here, yeah. And everything non Game of Thrones related I've seen Emilia Clarke in has left me questioning her acting chops.

I guess it's time for me to drop HBO and get Peacock.

It was a lot of fun. I was surprised to enjoy it that much.

There’s so many shows out there and people working in the industry don’t have a ton of free time, we have to actually see your show to vote for it.

Most of it’s just an email saying “hey, watch this show.” Or an invite to a place to watch the show and get some specific information about the craftsperson and their work.

If they were on HBO,Apple or Netflix they probably wouldn't have to spend anything on an ad campaign or sending out screeners to voters to get people to watch. But if they want to get any Emmy nods they will have to proactively try and convince some people to watch it who might not be aware of the show.

HBO, Apple, and Netflix spend plenty on their campaigns and screenings. I’ve already gotten free codes from each of them. Edit: in person screenings are just starting so I haven’t gotten a ton of invites yet but have some from each of those streamers.
