Emily Blunt was miscast in Sicario

Posted by FrontTelevision7261

I really like Emily Blunt in The Devil Wears Prada, Fall Guy, A Quiet Place and other movies. I did not like her cast in Sicario. She just did not fit the role. Her acting was fine but she just did not fit the role of a tough FBI agent. I had a hard time finding her believable in that role. Someone like Hillary Swank would have been much more believable. The movie is good and Emily is a good actress but the entire time I watch it it feels cringeworthy to me. Anyone else agree? Disagree?

nah she was perfect for that role - the whole point was that she's out of her depth and way too naive for what she's walking into, someone like Swank would've made it feel like a completely different movie

My feelings as well. That is kind of what they were going for. A woman that has always worked hard and kicked ass being on a team where she is completely out of her element. No more kicking ass. Just watching pretty much. Fish out of water.

Right? At one point, they outright say that she's only there as a formality to give Brolin's people legal cover.

? The whole point of the character is that she's out of her depth, thrust into a situation she can't handle, asked to cross moral lines she's not comfortable with

You're not wrong. You're just really really really wrong.

Disagree, I thought she played the midpoint of the role she had and the role she was given within the film incredibly well.

You must hate her in Edge of Tomorrow then.

Hate tom cruise but that movie was entertaining and I loved her in it.

Sicario is a 10/10 movie top down. It's literally perfect.

I love the film, and have probably have watched it a couple of dozen times but.... the glaring plot hole of they never needed the tunnel whatsoever to accomplish the finale is quite evident. But the process of getting to that point was the bulk of the story. >!Being a Mexican citizen and knowing active prosecutors there he could have just easily stayed on the Mexican side with a cop car already. He just had to wait for Diaz to get recalled and follow the directions he was given anyway

As others say, I don't think she's supposed to be extremely tough, she's supposed to be a bit naive and idealistic, tested by the circumstances, which have her out of her depth. I also question whether Hillary Swank would have been that much better in the role as you envision it.

She WAS shown to be pretty tough several times early on. Specializing in no-knock raids, insisting that she stay on whenever they invited her to leave, not hesitating to kill multiple times, pretty darn tough as people go. I get what OP is saying in that Blunt's features are quite delicate for an action role. It's understandable how she could feel 'too pretty', but Hillary Swank was already too old at that point, and I'm struggling to think of anyone else who might've been better. Maybe someone with a bigger frame, like Mary Elizabeth Winstead?

She was perfect. What you crackling about?

Rewatched it last month and she's great in it as a fresh, noble, naive recruit that gets exposed to the dark underbelly of the American/Mexican drug war. Probably a matter of preference for you but I think she does a stellar job and really anchors the movie as she plays our POV in the story.

You mean aesthetically or personality-wise? As far as her emotional and mental role, she’s perfect: naively idealistic and overly confident. Aesthetically (make up, delicate features) well yes she’s a bit too good looking for the role but it’s something I can forget since everything else is spot on.

Playing someone out of their depth you don't want to cast someone who doesn't seem out of their depth. Blunt was spot-on casting. If Swank played it, she'd just be repeating her Insomnia performance/character.

In general I didn’t think she played a great role in that film. She did ok but not as good as it should have been. It’s still one of my favorite films though.

I thought she was good in that role, but I can see it.

What. Are you Hillary Swank’s agent?

I was skeptical, but she was great in Sicario and I thought she was excellent in Edge of Tomorrow. If I was forced to recast the role, I'd absolutely cast Melissa McCarthy \[this is a joke\]

You completely misunderstood the movie. She is not supposed to be a tough FBI agent. She’s supposed to be someone who can be manipulated and tossed away afterwards. The CIA specifically chose her because she’s naive and will go along with the program.

I felt that the first time around but then you just have to realize Sheridan writes shitty females lol she's there to make the men look manlier and to end up a stooge in the end. I think if it was Kaluyas character going through the same motions it woulvde ended up a much more interesting arc.

Sheridan did the same with Elizabeth Olsen in Wind River who gets maced and shot and needs saving by manly frontierman Jeremy Renner.

Yeah I agree it's honestly gotten pretty bad, I stopped watching landman after the first episode of the second season because of the goofy wife daughter soap opera shit lol wind river at least had plausibility on its side though compared to the scope of blunt in sicario. She's so out of her depth that it becomes a bit dumb if you think too hard.
