Tends to happen when you have concepts of a plan, and those concepts only include the idea that everyone would just surrender the moment they see carriers show up.

It’s also Friday, Trump’s favorite market manipulation day.

It's Friday halfway through the month when the bulk of people's 401k deposit is going in. So pump the market so us suckers have to buy at the peak, then short it to make money on the way down while we hold the bag, then buy and pump again at the end of the month when he announces that the Cuba invasion is over. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Honestly I need to go get the data for the last year or so and do a little regression analysis. I've notionally noticed a pattern but I don't know if it's backed up by the data.

The problem with trying to do that at an individual scale (one person trying to buy/sell) is that the system is designed to eat your lunch in brokerage fees. It’s only institutional investors and people with millions to trade who actually make money on this sort of low/high day trading.

Being deducted from your payroll today does not mean it immediately hits the stock market today. Companies need to do it quickly, but it absolutely will take a couple of days at minimum for the purchases to actually be made. Anyone with a payday today is likely getting those stocks purchased early next week, not today.

Plenty of them are also stupid. I don't think Marco Rubio is, but Hegseth is dumb as dirt. Trump had a certain cleverness a few decades ago, but his brain is completely fried now. RFKjr is not bright (maybe he was at one point in time, but he's lost it). Markwayne Mullin was one of the dumbest members of the Senate. Bondi isn't very smart. They are also evil, but some of them are actually stupid.
34
sartres_ 1 day ago +12
Rubio is not a bright guy. Look at how he did in the 2016 race: blown out of the water in a debate by Chris Christie of all people. He's just below average instead of a complete moron, so he looks good by comparison. IMO the smartest person in the administration is Vance. That's not an endorsement, he is a rat, but he really did come from *nothing*, and even without morals it takes a lot of hard work and intelligence to ascend as far as he has. Because of that, I find his whole war opposition saga hilarious. It's really beautiful karma that, having sacrificed every principle there is in exchange for power, he is now forced to watch the absolute morons he hitched his wagon to wreck his future prospects, while he can do nothing about it.

I honestly believe Trump didn't know what the Strait of Hormuz was and that this whole situation came as a complete surprise to him and that has been the root of all the issues. He genuinely didn't know this was going to happen. He figured they fire off some bombs and missiles, declare victory, and what was Iran gonna do but take it? Which is a f****** damning condemnation of his administration and his mental capabilities if I'm right.
915
nalaloveslumpy 2 days ago +377
The funny part of this is that every administration since Reagan has avoided direct conflict with Iran specifically every mother f***** on Earth knew that their immediate reaction would be to lock down the straight and strangle gas prices. Trump (or more likely his cabinet) had to ignore like one hundred fuckers telling them the obvious reaction to bombing Iran. The additional scope and efficiency of their counter drone attacks was the real surprise.

Surturius 2 days ago +95
I mean, Trump probably imagined they would kill the leader quickly and then the masses would rise up and the war would be over and a new friendly government would be in charge. I'm sure Netanyahu promised him that as well. And it sounds believable... if you don't have a whole intelligence apparatus to figure this kind of shit out for you. But Trump thinks he's smarter than everyone else, so why would he listen to them?
95
_RADIANTSUN_ 1 day ago +44
I sincerely think this is what happened. Tbh Israel doesn't even have such a naive model of Iran as to think the regime would just collapse and this wouldn't be the actual reaction... Iran is their #1 enemy and rival, their top notch intelligence apparatus is hugely focused on them, there is zero way they didn't know lol. That is just the vision they sold to Donald because it was easy due to his ego. They probably knew this is exactly what would happen and Nehtenyahu decided to work to the favor of Russia for a backroom deal because he knows idiot Donald will be gone in 3 years and Putin will still be there. ["Israel is a Russian-speaking country." - Putin](https://www.timesofisrael.com/putin-says-he-considers-israel-a-russian-speaking-country/) In fact these developments actually also work out in favor of the remaining regime, it really united the people in support against their #1 foreign enemy, so I wouldn't be surprised if they worked something out with Mojtaba after wounding him, when he was in Russia receiving treatment (despite official denials) this March. The whole thing would be organized and mediated by Putin, like "ok Mojtaba, your whole family is dead and you're the man now dawg, do you wanna make Iran rich and help us control the world energy supply or do you want Israel to give the Americans your coordinates when you get home and we'll talk to the next guy?" This is why I think Trump isn't actually a knowing Russian agent, he's just the most easily manipulated dummy who has ever occupied the oval office.
44
Surturius 1 day ago +30
I don't disagree, but Israel's motivations could be much simpler too: they've shown they don't give a f*** about the rest of the world. They knew what Iran would do, but the benefits of dragging the US into a long war and eventually crippling their biggest enemy (while allowing Netanyahu to continue distracting people so he doesn't go to jail) outweighed the impact (to THEM) of any Iranian countermeasures. Or it's all of the above! But anyway you look at it, Trump, and the US by extension, got played in an obscenely embarrassing way.

No President knows everything, though some basic facts should be understood, the issue here is that for Trump's corruption to work, he needs to surround himself with other people who are just as, if not more, corrupt than he is. Raw stupidity also works. So he has no one telling him when he his wrong or advising him on things that are pretty f****** simple. I mean just look at those pictures of people like Rubio wearing clown shoes that are 4 sizes too big, because Trump "gifted" them to him. Like, who the f***, actually does that. This is the dumbest, weakest, and most corrupt White House the US has seen so far.

15
Kataphractoi 2 days ago +17
They figured after the mass slaughter of protesters a few months ago that the regime was near a tipping point and that doing the decapitation strike would push them over the edge, causing the regime to collapse within a few days. Given that Iran has planned specifically for a war with the US for decades and has the most decentralized leadership structure for a dictatorship ever with layers upon layers of redundancy, that didn't happen. It's more nuanced than that, obviously, but the entire plan did revolve around the assumption that the decapitation strike would do 95% of the work. Massive intelligence failure for not looking at literal decades of data and understanding Iranian strategy.

Makes sense that it is. Look at the people involved: * Bibi seeing this as a chance to wage the wars and land grab that his faction has wanted to do for decades. * Hegsworth representing the US dominists that believe they need to forcibly trigger Armageddon so Jesus will return faster and declare the United States the new Kingdom of God on Earth with them as Jesus’ middle managers over everyone. * Trump who has dementia combined with narcissistic behavior flip flopping faster than a metronome on crack between panic that he’s being blamed for everything going wrong and wanting immediate and violent retribution on everyone who is making him look bad.

There's this weird libertarian/conservative idea with mistrusting the idea of "expertise", so they came in and hot swapped a bunch of actual morons in positions they're so unqualified for it would be insulting to call them "novice/amateur" because at least those groups understand they don't know things, then they proceeded to get rid of the other people with all the expertise in using what is basically a magic wand of "force projection" that is the US military. Like we started and lost a war with Iran, for literally no reason, and they did the thing literally anyone could have told them they'd do and blocked the straight, and the admin was surprised so they also blockaded the straight? Then backed down immediately!?!? It's all so dumb.

Now let's check Pope Leo history: He became a friar in the Order of Saint Augustine in 1977 (Yes: that Augustine), and became the Prior General of the Order of Saint Augustine (2001‍–‍2013) (Basically the highest in charge in the order). We're a long way from November and the average american has the memory of a gold fish. This will only impact the midterms if gas hasn't come down in price.

Americans are bad at remembering facts, but great at remembering feelings. Everybody's just sick of the chaos. Left, right, everyone.

It's kind of like when your toddler little brother likes watching you play video games. So you give him a controller that isn't hooked up to anything so he can feel included.

Israel probably decided on their own that there wasn't much left to destroy so they're going to take a breather. Trump comes along and claims he told them to do it.

Then there is no active war and Bibi runs out of excuses to avoid court. I'd say that's an unlikely choice by Bibi.
49
donkeyrocket 2 days ago +39
Bibi takes a breather until markets close. The attacks continue over the weekend maybe a ground invasion kicks off and things get all fucked up by Monday. Trump engages in more twitter diplomacy and probably posts of a picture of himself as Thomas the Tank Engine with an eight pack saving Palestinians.

Cause everyone is listening to what the US says these days...

FuriousFurryFisting 2 days ago +22
To be fair, the US does carry a lot of weight and can in fact enforce a lot of things diplomatically. Israel depends heavily on the military might of its US ally. But for claiming to be such a good deal maker, Trump doesn't understand he has to give his counterpart the opportunity to save face. Instead he is obsessed with publicly humiliating everyone and risking (and earning) defiance for it.

19

Presumably the Israelis have all of that information and are using it to control Trump.
10
Bucser 2 days ago +15
In case it wasn't /s Epstein was a foreign intelligence asset. He did provide Kompromat about everyone. Many think he worked for the Mossad along the KGB/GRU/CIA. If Israel doesn't get what they want they will use blackmail or expose those who cross them.

Astonishing. Iran has played their cards so incredibly well by opening the strait as long as the ceasefire in Lebanon is standing. Giving this bloated f*** a reason to pop a vein if Israel continues and it gets locked down again. Crazy ... well played.

So, Israel was doing whatever it wanted and Iran was just chilling there with the Strait open. Then the US joined Israel in bombing the shit out of Iran, and Israel also started going after Lebanon, while Iran said "no more oil". Now, Iran tells the US to get Israel to stop bombing Lebanon before they'll talk about opening the Strait.... This war gave Iran all the power then highlighted it.
