The EU’s mutual assistance clause is unambiguous, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday, after the bloc’s leaders asked officials to prepare a blueprint for how it would work amid doubts over Washington’s commitment to NATO.

The Netherlands, Spain, Italy, France, and Greece all responded with a show of force when Cyprus was hit by a drone. Good signals to send out.

It's because of Greece's close ally Cyprus being in the EU and not Nato. They want clarification on what happens if Turkey attacks Cyprus .He's talking to the Greeks and Cyprus directly now that Europe's on its own for defense After Trump fucked the entire Western order.

Yes, the EU is not a defensive alliance, it’s a economic and legal cooperation and governance group

Where in the statement you linked does it state that a fellow membership state must provide military aid or defence to a fellow country? They have to provide aid, but that doesn’t mean they’ll have their military forces deployed. I’ll give you this strawman example: what aid do you think Orbans Hungary would have been obligated to Poland if Russia were to attack?

Sure, and all means in their power is subjective by the country. I think some countries would provide military forces, sure. I think some countries would provide weapons but no forces, I think some countries would simply provide *thoughts and prayers*. I simply believe that Europe is far less militarily align than what Listnook wants to believe. We see this with Ukraine and the various levels of support countries have provided. In the case of a Russian or US assault, I do not believe that we will see a united European army, we’ll see some member states fighting and others weaseling out

> Sure, and all means in their power is subjective by the country. If you have a military that you can send, then those are means within your power, and you are obligated to use them. > We see this with Ukraine and the various levels of support countries have provided. There was no formal alliance with Ukraine. Technically, we're not obligated to give anything at all.

By this logic, NATO is not a defensive alliance.

"Article 42(7) TEU: If a Member State is the victim of armed aggression on its territory, the other Member States shall have towards it an obligation of aid and assistance by all the means in their power." Which Macron is confirming as unambiguous.

> by all means in their power Is ambiguous and allows countries to send some blankets and flashlights and say ”sorry, this was all that was in my power”

The US invades Greenland. Denmark activates this clause. Which European countries do you genuinely believe will send their navy and airforce to kick the US out?

Wait are you talking about the training exercise that was already planned? >We WOULD be at war if one EU country would be attacked. Oh yeah? Why didn't we go to war in 2014 when Russia blew up an ammo warehouse in Czechia, killing two?

Let’s be real here. We sent a symbolic force to show allegiance. This is far different than an actual military engagement.

No, I simply do not believe that a lot of European countries would join an assault if the Americans parked 2 carrier strike groups outside of Greenland. I think a lot of countries would go back to the Strongly Worded Letters

Ok you are strategic expert on something that will never happen. Let's be real. In case you are actual strategist, why would one entity attract all naval force focus on an huge far away island when there is a looming need for naval forces somewhere else? Any ideas, let us know. This hint should be enough to reveal overstretching a hand is a real problem even for US.

Not believing that European countries will step us does not make me MAGA. I know it is easier to disregard me if you think I’m American

No, i never meant that, but reinterpreting facts/rules is a thing they do.
