I don't think this will help solve the root of the problem, quite the opposite in fact.

Yeah this is so stupid and short sighted. Lowering the taxes and thus prices will just increase demand and thus the raw price further. At the same time it will give less tax revenue which could be used to fund alternatives and rollout of renewables and EV infrastructure.
Everybody suffers currently, but everybody also understands why. So lets deal with it in a sustainable and reasonable way that handles the root of the problem rather than short term fixes. Our politicians act like the board of a publicly traded company with quarterly financial results being the most important figure for shareholders.

At least in my country it’s decades of hostility against nuclear power from the tiniest and stupidest of political parties that the largest political party have had to rely on in order to majority rule coming back to bite the common person in the arse. Of course they don’t care. It’s like oh but just take the bicycle to the work. Yes sure that will work when it’s 30m by car on a 120km/h highway, or 2h+ with multiple busses and trains that will derail if there is a leaf on the tracks.
Even if they are ”learning” the lesson that modern society rely on a TON of electricity to function - a need that will only exponentially increase - we’re looking at decades more now to fix it. We could have been at like 2-3x the electric car adoption by now but noooooooo… let’s just punish people instead for driving anything.
