Chloe Cherry having her poop drip down her leg and a dog licking it off is nothing I could have predicted, even after the car farts.

BanjoSpaceMan Apr 14, 2026 +8
Nothing on screen has made me wince in the last decade or so, I always just know it’s fake. Something about that made me legit look away and go ew Jesus f***. Maybe it’s cause it’s a real dog, even if it’s not shit, shit was weird

The tone of the show is so radically different now, the only recognizable thing are the characters. In the case of Jacob Elordi it seems like he really struggled to recapture Nate, although the previews showing him and Jules meeting again sounded like the old Nate. For Sydney Sweeney you can tell how much she loves playing this character who is as batty as ever. And good lord she says yes to literally anything this show asks.

icannotfeelmyface Apr 13, 2026 +170
I really thought Elordi’s acting was really good in s1 and 2, but his acting in this episode felt soooo dull and lifeless. Legit felt like he was playing an entirely different character. I hated it.

Definitely see what you’re saying but think the change in demeanor can plausibly be explained as a progression from Nate as an arrogant spoilt teenager to young adult trying to stay afloat and run a stressful business without his dad giving him everything. Confidence shaken and ego damaged. If he’s just like this all season then totally agree
115
Deviltherobot Apr 13, 2026 +10
He's depressed in his current situation.
10
annikaepender Apr 13, 2026 +28
Jacob is a fantastic actor but the dialogue they’ve given him is an absolute joke. His character has become a cartoon version of what it was in s1, dark, complex and nuanced. Now he’s just a punchline. He’s delivering a performance worthy of the script he’s been given😭 you can tell his heart ain’t in it. I don’t think many of us could take a scene where we’re holding Sydney Sweeney by a leash as she says “woof woof” while looking up at us with lobotomized eyes, and take it seriously, much less deliver anything that could be called a “good” performance. The glaze Sam got for s1 has created air bubbles in his brain, if they weren’t already there before, which, with what we know about his past, isn’t far off.
28
BossButterBoobs Apr 13, 2026 +23
He was already a cartoon character in season 1. Mf was an evil emotionally stunted Batman. I just skimmed though the first two seasons and I forgot how absolutely stupid that whole situation with the dude he kidnapped, assaulted, and forced to admit to stat r*** was lmao

CrossoverEpisodeMeme Apr 13, 2026 +7
Truth. I get that a lot of people here did not like season 2 or the new episode, but there seems to be a ton of people forgetting how ridiculous this show always was, even at the start. The way Nate talked to Jules during the catfish reveal after the fair was so over the top, it was functionally no different than a comic book villain doing their monologue.
7
ThePooksters Apr 13, 2026 +8
Seems like he doesn’t want to be there… and it’s hard to blame him.
8
al_ien5000 Apr 16, 2026 +1
I mean....what were you like however many years after high school? Were you the same?
1
Obi-Wan_Bon-Jovi Apr 13, 2026 +24
In an interview in today's New York Times, Sam Levinson said Sydney called him to make sure that Cassie is still "crazy".
24
Jfury412 Apr 13, 2026 +41
Nate was a high school kid; 99.9% of the population is completely different people at age 22 than they were at age 17. So, of course, his character is going to be different. He's actually really likable now. Jacob is just a Beast; I wouldn't want to see him rehash the same teenage character when he's a man in his mid-20s now. He's probably the most talented actor on a show full of extremely talented actors.
41
37285 Apr 13, 2026 +4
I thought the episode was really good but the show is not the same now that they have left high school behind. We shall see how the rest of the season goes, but it might be best to have it end after this season.
4
tv_lcsw Apr 14, 2026 +1
I thought everyone knew this was the final season.
1
Quiet_Television7292 Apr 13, 2026 +1
Maybe Elordi is supposed to seem "changed" but I agree with everyone else, his performance felt flat and too far departed from a realistic development of the Nate we got to know in seasons 1 & 2.
1
mehgleg Apr 15, 2026 +1
Its kind of hard to believe Jacob went from that S tier Frankenstein performance to this

Does anyone know if that red button down shirt that Zendaya was wearing at the farm has been in another movie/show? It looks so familiar for some reason. Edit: It’s the shirt Andy Samberg wears in Palm Springs lol

262

I thought the same thing. I can't think of any reasonable excuse to not include him
75
anewname4444 Apr 13, 2026 +112
They could potentially have a different episode they want to dedicate to him
112
annikaepender Apr 13, 2026 +9
🤞🏻‼️ because if the only reference to him was that one off prison line and they don’t bring up his character again that’s going to feel hugely distasteful and disrespectful.
9
animalivebecome Apr 13, 2026 +11
There’s multiple scenes that he’s “in”, per Sam in the New York Times article.
11
Jfury412 Apr 13, 2026 +8
That's not going to happen, Sam already says his story has a lot to do with the entire narrative of this season.
8
bloodyturtle Apr 13, 2026 +4
I don’t think we really have a right to talk about someone people on the show know and we don’t know like that.
4
rov124 Apr 14, 2026 +3
In 2023, they added a tribute to Angus Cloud before the first episode of the first and second seasons on HBO Max ([Source](https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/see-heartfelt-angus-cloud-tribute-010125123.html)), I checked yesterday and the tribute to Eric Dane appears instead, it means the tribute is not actually part of the video file. But if you watch the ending credits of S03E01 there´s [In Memoriam](https://instagram.fhmo2-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t51.82787-15/669869742_18581371360038401_9096110980501651147_n.jpg) cards for Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, and producer Kevin Turen.

It’s in there, at the literal last 10 seconds of the credits and it comes and goes real quick. But yeah I was surprised too.

16
Nastia_dream Apr 13, 2026 +18
I read that Sam Levinson decided not to kill him off in the show so technically he’s still alive there. He just won’t be seen as characters will be talking to him on the phone.
18
BanjoSpaceMan Apr 14, 2026 +1
His reasoning felt weird, I get it but he was like “I couldn’t save him in real life so I can keep the char”. Maybe this is his interesting way of coping or not. Or maybe it’ll be at the end of the season, who knows
1

If I had a nickel for every time Jacob Elordi released something this year where the woman he was sleeping with pretended to be a dog, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice

As someone who watched 7 season of Riverdale, I'm going to stick to this season. So far, I'm liking Breaking Rue.
275
IntelligentFact7987 Apr 13, 2026 +13
In my view more shows could do with going full Riverdale. Sometimes I don’t want prestige TV and want nothing more than the highs and lows of high school football or to see the Gargoyle King
13
annikaepender Apr 13, 2026 +40
Breaking Rue is actually shaping up to be far more entertaining than I anticipated. I did not have high hopes but I’m pleasantly surprised. I’m sat. But will be reeling in revulsion from Sam’s perverse use of my girl Faye😭

rue accidentally became a tarantino chracter.
1
Infinite_Fly_5374 Apr 13, 2026 +178
I feel like people are forgetting that Euphoria was always kind of a trashy show that was more style over substance. It had some great moments at times, like the episode about Rue’s intervention or the diner episode with Rue and Ali, but the stuff not dealing about addiction was never high art and was always rly oversexualized (at least this time they’re not sexualizing high schoolers lol) It wasn’t perfect, and there were definitely too many gross-out/shock value gags, but it was kind of an interesting direction for me and I kinda dug the aesthetics of it.
178
annikaepender Apr 13, 2026 +54
I’d agree, but I also think Jules special episode dissecting her gender identity and sexuality was pretty fantastic! Mostly because Hunter hand a huge part in the writing of that episode.
54
Infinite_Fly_5374 Apr 13, 2026 +5
Yeah, agreed. Rly a shame how much Sam derailed her character after that episode
5
BanjoSpaceMan Apr 14, 2026 +2
Ya well at least the style made it visually incredible to watch. They’re going more western here but without those wild camera and cinematic moments you kinda lose interest
2
Stock_College_8108 Apr 13, 2026 +278
Thus far, replacing Labrinth with Hans Zimmer was a huge mistake. WTF. A bigger name doesn’t mean a better choice.

Zimmer got main music credit as well. Ironically, the best music in the episode was Labrinth with his rendition of the Ave Maria song at the beginning of the episode.

88
somersetyellow Apr 13, 2026 +56
Hmmm wonder who that could be.... Looking forward to the retrospective in 20 years when the entire cast and crew can talk more freely. The leaked stories and rumors from S2 were already pretty wild.
56
goddamnitwhalen Apr 13, 2026 +51
It’s going to come out eventually that Sam Levinson is a mega creep and I won’t be at all surprised.
51
Kalse1229 Apr 13, 2026 +12
I only casually follow the show. What are the S2 rumors/leaks?
12
somersetyellow Apr 13, 2026 +40
There's some articles on it that do it better justice. There's just so much nonsense. But TLDR - A former designer who briefly worked on S1 pre production accused him of stealing her aesthetic and backed it up with a lot of evidence that he 1:1 ripped her ideas off. Which would track since soooo many shots in Euphoria S1 are remakes of other famous movie shots. There's also evidence that Levinson had that hyperbolic style already thanks to Assassination Nation, but... Yeah. S1's aesthetics were by far the best. - The actress who played Kat firmly refused playing an eating disorder storyline in S2 and rather than rewrite it he just kinda sidelined her. I'd say her plot made no sense in S2 but almost everyone's did. She quit right after S2. - There was stuff about him asking for a lot of n*** scenes with Sydney Sweeney. The internet decided he was a creep. Sweeney said she was chill with it. But there definitely was an excessive amount of her. And others... - He reportedly showed up without shotlists and redid dialogue and scenes the day of. This always creates a mess on set if the director pulls that. Set days were extremely long. - Labyrinth apparently felt slighted too and it just came out that he rage quit. Which really sucks because his music was so fantastic and unique for this show. - Angus Cloud said he was close to relapsing due to working on the show and worked with Levinson on it a bit. Then later on he did. And died. Though ostensibly more the grief of his dad passing. - The Idol came out and proved Levinson is a hack. - Actually if you look at the original script for the Euphoria pilot, it starts with Rue having just murdered Nate then zooms out of a v***** while she's born. Levinson was heavily restrained back in S1 and in retrospect it was hugely to his benefit. The writing still made no sense but it did capture a vibe really well. No doubt from a cast and crew that were enjoying this new and different style and storytelling. S1 is not peak TV but it's very interesting TV to watch and unfortunately it seems it was a total fluke. I'm sure there's more. The show is a lot lol. This season going full GTA for what reviews are calling complete nonsense storylines is to be expected haha.

Heavy on Levinson is a hack nightmare
14
somersetyellow Apr 13, 2026 +2
You can basically sum up the entire thing with that
2
Deviltherobot Apr 13, 2026 +7
A lot of this is just normal production stuff. Dialogue gets changed on the fly and first drafts get changed, assembly cuts get changed, etc. Barbie caused issues on Nope as well and isn't really in anything anymore except a small horror film in theaters rn. The character also already had an ED implied in S1. The weekend caused most of the issues with the idol, which was well reported at the time. Sweeny is really obviously into her scenes. Sam is prob a creep but Sweeny is down for it as well.
7
Mattyzooks Apr 13, 2026 +5
I'll add the fanbase has had an absurd parasocial relationship with this show as well and many fans became downright antagonistic towards the show and Levinson from the choice to kill Ashtray. Twitter was a f****** scary mess in how much people felt betrayed by an always kinda trashy show. Levinson being a 'bit' of a pervy hack who is all style and little substance doesn't help though.
5
OasisEPIC Apr 13, 2026 +2
I've heard about the woman who's visuals Sam stole alot. Why didn't she out him out more?
2
blind_marvin Apr 13, 2026 +6
That could mean Hans Zimmer.
6
black_foresst Apr 13, 2026 +4
Wouldn’t be at all surprised that Labrinth was pushed out because HBO and Sam Levinson wanted a more “professional” sounding track (having Hans Zimmer on your production staff could really boost an ego.) I assume Sam was worried that Labrinth would “ruin” any Zimmer track.
4
somersetyellow Apr 13, 2026 +6
I doubt that. Labrinth is a reasonably big name unto himself and the music he wrote for the show has been a massive success on streaming outside of the show's fandom.
6
Stock_College_8108 Apr 13, 2026 +32
I love Zimmer but Lab was doing just fine without him.
32
broden89 Apr 13, 2026 +18
They were but Labrinth just revealed he quit the show and nothing he created is in S3.
18
Hoopy_93 Apr 13, 2026 +8
his music is in the start of the episode the ave maria song when rue is with the christian family but yeah thats about it
8
Neat_Swimming_6176 Apr 13, 2026 +8
Absolutely. The music is awful actually. I usually like Hans zimmer, but it sounds as if they were last minute trying to cramp together some not finished wanna be labrinth style music bits. I’m so so disappointed 😢 this first episode didn’t feel like euphoria at all. They should have sticked to the high school storyline and avoided this cringy wannabe crime drama
8
JordanDoesTV Apr 13, 2026 +6
Damn you’re stronger than me once they played the dnd game that was controlling real people I was out
6
Quople Apr 13, 2026 +2
The show had really great synergy between the music, cinematography, outfits, and makeup before. Taking his music out makes this thing a a bit of a mess aesthetically. Not much synergy

this is soo upsetting to me lmao it would have been perfect for rue and the end of high school (just feels like a more mature sound and i love the southern vibe). i wonder if i could have suspended my belief more if the score wasn’t boring as f***

where can I listen to it?

power_sungod Apr 13, 2026 +12
Started off really strong, but got sort of boring as it went along. I almost wish if they were going into the hard drug underbelly scene, they'd just focus on that, instead of still half-heartedly following some of the other characters. But maybe it'll all come together.

Zendaya is still great as Rue. Everything else was blah. Not the same without fezco

Why is it so Western themed this season? It's odd after two seasons in the suburbs. The change in music after Labrinth left the project is also really weird. Also, I'm disappointed there was no tribute to Angus like there was for Eric Dane and there was no behind the scenes commentary after the episode. This season feels really disconnected from the cast.

JDLovesElliot Apr 13, 2026 +37
The theme is supposed to be referencing Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, like a drug trip gone wrong

Western-Teacher-8678 Apr 13, 2026 +2
There was a tribute in the credits

It’s been incredibly boring thus far and the music is the worst part. Two things I never thought I’d say about Euphoria, no matter how bad the writing got. Edit: A dog just licked shit from a woman’s ass. 🤢

Can’t say I loved episode 1 but I don’t think it was boring at all. I wasn’t riveted but I was definitely entertained. Even got a few laughs out of me. No doubt people will shit all over this season no matter what and that’s fine. I’m here for it.

I considered that the funniest moment of the episode and it got a hard laugh out of me. I'm guessing that the dog just did that during the shoot at which point Levinson thought it would be funny to have the dog do that in the scene and I concur.

I liked it, but then I've always liked rues story, everyone else was always just filler.

PaintingRepulsive564 Apr 13, 2026 +4
the show feels like it was directed by someone who's really into quentin Tarantino and wes anderson's early work. especially with rue's drug mule side quest.

Went in with low expectations because of the reviews for the season, but I loved this episode and am hooked on this show again

Fantastic_Owl6938 Apr 13, 2026 +6
Looked it up when I realised it was on today just to get a vibe for it from what the articles might say (since I couldn't watch it right away) and literally every single one was about outrage over Cassie's outfits/people saying they were going to boycott the show because of it, and how supposedly every single female character is doing sex work? I went into the first episode expecting some crazy shit, and it honestly seemed pretty tame in comparison to all the hysteria I read. I think it was pretty off the rails in a fun way- not perfect, but enjoyable. Some of the things people say about this show make me think this is the only HBO/cable show they've ever watched.

CrossoverEpisodeMeme Apr 13, 2026 +10
>Some of the things people say about this show make me think this is the only HBO/cable show they've ever watched. This is like 99% of the issue. The circus surrounding this show in online circles is insane, I've never seen anything like it for any other scripted show that I've watched. There were dozens of wild posts and comments back when the second season was airing that could not understand the surrealist nature of the show that's built on Rue serving as an unreliable narrator battling drug addiction, so there was a ton of discussion around Lexi's play, the choir sequence, the church scene, etc that was treating those as if they actually happened as the viewers saw them. And then some people have formed parasocial connections to both the actors and the characters they portray, as if it's a reality TV show or something. I've read so many random things against my will about the actors and writers/directors from listnook comments that I would never bother or want to learn on my own. I will say that it's fascinating to see how other people treat the TV experience.

1000%. I know the term "media literacy" gets thrown around a lot, but I really do think it applies here the way people talk about Euphoria. This show is heavy on the magic surrealism and aesthetics being used to represent something or portray a feeling. It isn't meant to be taken literally all the time, yet I feel like 95% of the audience (or the vocal ones at least) don't get that. I've always thought this is a show *about* high schoolers (prior to season 3) not necessarily *for* high schoolers, but naturally young people are going to be drawn to the show with people their age in it. But I think many of them don't understand it. That wouldn't matter so much if they didn't dominate most conversations about the show (well, young people/people of all ages taking everything at face value). Teenagers, I think especially, hope to find themselves in this show and end up disappointed. They struggle to accept it for what it is. I've seen people ask how Rue "knows everything about everyone else's life" to narrate beyond her own experience, with entire conversations dedicated to speculation on how she "found out" what happened to the other characters. And of course the endless "how can the school afford this play" comments, which I understand are sometimes jokes, but also think frequently are not. I've also seen lots of comments stating Rue is "a bad person" after episodes surrounding her addiction, which just completely lack any nuance about drug addiction and boil it down to "Rue is bad, therefore we shouldn't like her." That is a very boring and ultimately unsatisfying way to engage with media, in my opinion. On a side note, I've always found it strange that people are so concerned about the character's clothes being unrealistic for high school too, and how it's treated like something exclusive to Euphoria, never seen before that. Rewatching shows from the 90s/early to mid-2000s, and the characters were wearing outfits probably inappropriate for school in real life. Because it's a TV show. It seems like there's different standards now for younger viewers, wanting to recognise themselves in every aspect when it's not that kind of hyper-realistic show.

I went in wanting to hate it because I didn't get the hype the first two seasons, barring a few exceptional acting scenes, and I loved this episode

Yeah dude it was frickin great So far I like it the best of anything from the earlier seasons. Plus if anyone has watched OZ It has ADEBISI and I’d watch him in ANYthing

Desperate to hate on a show that has significantly declined in quality and is basically a train wreck? Yeah we’re really grasping at straws here..

WAPlyrics Apr 13, 2026 +4
I don’t understand the critique that the show and the characters are different like it’s a bad thing. There was a literal time-skip. People evolve, and the setting isn’t in high school anymore.

What is this shit? They sat at a table and decided that even after a time jump they’re gonna make Cassie dumber than she was in highschool, really??

foxfire505 Apr 13, 2026 +5
It was good I think. It feels like a different show, and Jacob Elordi is definitely presenting a different Nate. But hey, it's been 4 years. I did find Lexi and Cassie annoying, they are two opposite extremes lol. Lexi talking about how 'judgmental' christians are while being judgmental herself lol and then telling Rue she won't be friends with a christian... I guess she became a stereotype. And Cassie... She's delusional. S1 Cassie and S3 Cassie are two totally different characters. But as I said, 4 years.

Frosty_Buyer_9072 Apr 13, 2026 +3
I personally feel like it had a lot of inconsistencies like in the earlier season they went on about how rue is pretty much asexual and doesn’t really care for provocatively dress women and now working in a strip club is her dream job and then second of all I just feel like Nate isn’t Nate anymore like all I see is his actor Jacob like in what world would he allow Cassie to do only fans content?
3
Smoothie-Town7432 Apr 13, 2026 +3
Style-wise, it looks like a different show, in a different universe. The episode wasn't bad, it was just... I don't know. It felt a bit off. The scenarios that Rue got into this episode seemed far-fetched. As for the other characters, they're just okay for now. Some of the acting was good, and some of it was just eh. However, I don't think my complaints will stop me from watching this season.

rimsha_5 Apr 13, 2026 +4
Nate feels like an entirely different person. He's so, calm and reasonable? And I'm not sure if it's the cardboard acting or bad script but his reaction to finding SS making puppy content was very underwhelming. I don't like how they took the predictable route with all of them. They're all just saturated and reduced versions of their high school selves, not even remotely complex writing. Any subversion of the very obvious expectation would've been nice. Without Labrinth, the iconic visuals, and makeup, this feels like an entirely different show. Weirdly giving Babylon more than it is giving Euphoria.

Halfway through and I’m bored as F***. Legit scrolling and doing anything I can do to get through. I loved the first two seasons tho (while acknowledging how fucked up all of this is)

Watching it now almost done the episode and holy it’s boring. I’m still gonna watch it obviously lol but damn this is tough. I get we are just getting what everyone’s up to but idk

ERSTF Apr 13, 2026 +6
Not bad. The music is the only change for the worse but everything else seems like a natural progression of their characters. I will keep watching... cautiously

StanyeEast Apr 13, 2026 +4
This shit was great and I didn't even like the show all that much to begin with...it had its moments the first two seasons, but I thought this episode was way funnier and far more interesting

catwoman37 Apr 13, 2026 +5
I literally hate everyone’s storyline except Rue’s. Levinson clearly didn’t know what to do with everybody else and why is it centered around Hollywood of all things? Euphoria was created for relatability.. It feels like he wants Euphoria to be The Idol 2

Why are there _so_ many people watching something they publicly dislike? Baffling to me. I enjoyed the episode and am certainly excited to see where the rest of the season goes. Absolutely love the amount of colour in the show, too. Don’t see too much of that nowadays. I did miss Labrinth’s music _a lot_ though. He was such a huge part of previous seasons.

Cilliantove Apr 17, 2026 +1
I felt the show was a completely different thing from the other seasons, maybe they waited too long? I enjoyed Ru's story more than what she was in past seasons because right now she is not just high the whole time (yet hahaha). The whole thing is very crude, it's fun to see Faye back, I kinda like her, I'm always afraid she'll end up dead hahaha. Jabob Elordi's first scene felt so weird, his voice sounded different and I didn't fully believe him. Also, I think he is kinda cute irl but as Nate he gives me the ick. I know how she came out as this horrible human in the past year, but damn, Sidney would do whatever in front of a camera. It felt so humiliating, makes me think she doesn't have any dignity left. I mean, the scenes didn't freak me out like some articles were saying, but the thought of her acting like that after all the backlash just feels yucky to me.
