3 things that Listnook is unable to have a rational discussion about: Euphoria Sydney Sweeney Sam Levinson The discourse around this show is so obnoxious.

onebread Apr 16, 2026 +283
It’s because the show is both so bad, but so good at the same time. I don’t even know if I like this show but I’ll tune in every week. For example, in S3E1, there’s a really great set piece to start it off, then we get into whatever’s going on with Elordi and Sweeney which has some of the worst dialogue and acting I’ve seen in some time. It’s really a marvel.

mamula1 Apr 16, 2026 +53
The show just looks so beautiful that I can kinda overlook some flaws.

pathofdumbasses Apr 17, 2026 +72
You can just say "T***" bro
72
Scared-Engineer-6218 Apr 17, 2026 +39
I mean it also has great lighting, blocking, set design. But yeah, mostly it's t***.
39
Shervico Apr 17, 2026 +7
I was saddened when I learned that they called a 30 or something model/photographer because they really liked her style of lighting and portraits and thought it would be a perfect fit for the show, so she helps the director and director of photography, then they boot her but keep her style

I’m having a hard time telling if the bad acting is intentional in some way or not.. because Elordi and Sweeney have both shown to be great at acting so what happening there
60
CoupDeBraah Apr 16, 2026 +86
Elordi definitely has proof but I havent been impressed by any Sweeney performance. I think she gets the Gadot treatment of just being politically controversial eye candy.
86
Paladar2 Apr 16, 2026 +157
Sidney isn’t great but she is leagues above Gal Gadot lol
157
ari-is-new-to-this Apr 16, 2026 +50
yeah i first saw her in handmaid’s tale, its a small part but she was really good
50
leavingthekultbehind Apr 16, 2026 +39
Sidney is actually a really good actress. You should watch a movie she stared in called Reality. Genuinely one of the best performances I’ve seen from new Hollywood.
39
gtrocks555 Apr 17, 2026 +13
Go watch the Housemaid. She was terrible in it.
13
Stock-Mix-174 3 days ago +1
Shes terrrible in Eden. Her german “accent” disintegrates into a socal LA one mid-monologue at the end. Shes very talented at looking helpless / in pain or sultry. But its extremely limited range

Agreed Gadot is worse, but I dont see how either get lead roles from much beyond their “influencer” status.

Paladar2 Apr 16, 2026 +26
Immaculate was a good performance. The Housemaid wasn’t bad either. I’m not saying she’s great but Gadot makes compilations of bad acting… Sweeney doesn’t have a “Kal-el No!” type moment
26
BurgerNugget12 Apr 16, 2026 +9
She was really good in immaculate tbh
9
Safe-Reason1435 Apr 17, 2026 +1
Ehhhhh I went into Anyone But You *wanting* to like it and some of her delivery was just abysmal. The writing was pretty rough to begin with, though.

In Euphoria
2
TwoTalentedBastidz Apr 16, 2026 +32
Come on now, this isn’t true at all. She was great in both Christy and the HBO movie where she is a whistleblower. Maybe you’re the one too focused on her eye candy

“You cant tell shes a good actress because youre distracted by her looks” is a hilarious argument only listnook could come up with lmao. Her popularity shot way up after her American Eagle ad, not really any acting role. Euphoria put her on the map but shes only a household name for b**** and controversy. Christy was a bomb and i havent seen Reality but not knowing its name doesnt bode well for its quality or her performance. Ill probably check it out though, 96% RT
-14
Deviltherobot Apr 17, 2026 +17
>Her popularity shot way up after her American Eagle ad She was massive before this. Like only nerds online cried about it. > Christy was a bomb A biopic about a lesbian boxer was not going to do well. Especially during a massive gov shutdown where Trump illegally cut food stamps.
17
TwoTalentedBastidz Apr 17, 2026 +7
Buddy you’re the one who brought up her being eye candy in a discussion of her acting skills, which plenty of people have refuted in this thread Hope this helps moving forward.
7
Imjustmisunderstood Apr 17, 2026 +3
Comparing Sweeney to Gal Gadot is going too far. Gal Gadot is in your face bad. Like, she somehow actively ruins every production she’s in. I’m not sure if it’s they write her dialogue that poorly or what. But Sweeney has some really excellent performances throughout Euphoria, granted the role is to literally be eye candy for a horny audience. The first scene that comes to her mind is when she lost it as the school play.
3
TheBigMotherFook Apr 17, 2026 +2
She was good in The Housemaid, even if the movie was more or less a Danielle Steel novel and not particularly great.
2
Fear_the_chicken Apr 17, 2026 +1
Yeah I going to comment the same thing I enjoyed that movie and I’m not usually a fan of the genre. She did well in it
1
KindOfANerd4 Apr 17, 2026 +1
I mean I think her performance last season as Cassie was great, maybe she’s not able to elevate bad writing, but with a good script I think she’s really good
1
Deviltherobot Apr 17, 2026
She's a great actress but due to what she does in this show and some other programs she isn't taken seriously. This episode was tough to watch with the dog stuff. The baby stuff will be worse.
0
tfhermobwoayway Apr 17, 2026
Unironically if she didn’t have a fat rack she’d never have made it in Hollywood. Plenty of better actors who simply aren’t hot enough for a big break. We excuse a lot of behaviour in people who are hot.
0
Far-Imagination2736 Apr 19, 2026 +1
Elordi recently said he didn't have enough time to properly get into character and regrets some of his acting choices
1
FrivolousMe Apr 17, 2026 +1
You can only do so much with poor writing and direction
1
Sadiholic Apr 17, 2026 -2
Elordi eeh, Sweeny though??? Last movie I saw her in was that movie romcom with what's his face "Anyone but you" and holy shit was her acting dookie water.
-2
Serawasneva Apr 16, 2026 -14
>because Elordi and Sweeney have both shown to be great at acting Sydney Sweeney and great at acting do not belong in the same sentence.

Why is it objectively bad? I've only heard of the show and clips of it.
2
gtrocks555 Apr 17, 2026 +1
She was better in that scene than in the House Maid. I was impressed based on the contrast of the two haha.

It’s so violent and sad . I couldn’t watch it. Plus they are all kids
0
accountforadvice99 Apr 16, 2026 +83
Add zendaya. They've been trying to say she has beef with sweeny when that just is not the case. There was an attmpt to smear her as difficult recently and im not sure who was pushing that.
83
NoDaddyNotTheBelt25 Apr 16, 2026 +53
There’s groups of PR specialists that run Hollywood smear machines. The NY Times wrote about it when the Blake Lively/Justin Baldoni thing emerged a couple years ago. They use the press, social media and places like Listnook to smear people. It was plainly obvious it was happening with Sydney Sweeney and I wouldn’t be shocked if they’re currently pushing it right now with Katy Perry. There’s some dark corporate money behind it. If they get people more focused on stupid shit involving famous celebrities, that’s less people that realize how fucked over they’re getting by corporations and politicians. And so many keep taking the bait.

hitsujiTMO Apr 16, 2026 +9
AFAIK Disney did this with a lot of their child stars. They used to encourage Co stars to start some sort of beef with each other. Going so far as to get stylists and others in and around the set to make up stories to the kids about their co stars talking behind their back. It was used to drum up behind the scenes stories and gossip in the Disney fan club magazines. Apparently caused a lot of stress and unnecessary damage to a lot of the kids.
9
theycallmemomo Apr 16, 2026 +29
Chappell Roan too. Even after the security guard said she had nothing to do with the whole thing.
29
NoDaddyNotTheBelt25 Apr 16, 2026 +6
That’s another great example too.
6
Khiva Apr 17, 2026 +6
Same company that ran the smear campaign on Amber Heard. That one is quite the rabbit hole. A podcast _Who Trolled Amber_ is a wild ride but still only scratches the surface.
6
accountforadvice99 Apr 16, 2026 +9
It's not dark corporate money. its just money being pushed when they see a trending topic. For instance, the first play specifically about zendaya was if she would be comfortable with sweeny given her.. alignments. Then it devolved in to her being difficult with sam and sweeny for various reasons. Its not a secret cabal, its just shitty clickbait journalists realsing they can make a lot of money drumming up drama. The PR firms coming in if they have an angel for a speciifc person. I really dislike the idea of some dark corner of corporate being dirty when the reality is that it is all bad if you really dig into it, like fundamentally lmao.
9
tfhermobwoayway Apr 17, 2026 +2
I really wish corporations had never figured out the Internet. Everyone’s fighting over how best to exploit it. I miss the old days of passionate nerds thinking “this is going to be a great shared resource for humanity.”
2
ucd_pete Apr 18, 2026 +1
Amber Heard was the most obvious victim of this type of smearing.
1
thegreatredwizard Apr 16, 2026 +48
Clickbait journalism is the culprit. News no longer exists its just manufactured nonsense.
48
Seraphayel Apr 16, 2026 +8
Sensationalist journalism. It’s what ruins the profession. Anything needs to be either super negative, fear-mongering or sensationalist. *Normal* news don’t generate clicks (aka money).

Splitting hairs I guess, but I’m putting that in the Sydney Sweeney bucket more so than an issue with Zendaya.
-1
accountforadvice99 Apr 16, 2026 +12
I dont think so. The framing was that zendaya was the one being difficult because artiles also came out about how she didnt want to interact with sam levinson. Rightfully, people called out how it was trying to make her seem difficult especially since its lies. Im not saying sweeny and sam havent had their own, but zendaya should be up with them too.

Besides Idol, I still don't understand what Levinson has done to get so much hate.
8
MrGabrahamLincoln Apr 16, 2026 +32
I’ve seen people on Twitter legitimately calling him a pedo because he put Sydney Sweeney in that baby outfit this season. I have no stake in this show at all, but I feel like these people don’t understand that you can portray something in a movie or show without endorsing it.
32
BurgerNugget12 Apr 16, 2026 +20
Yeah I saw people on the euphoria sub say Sam is a creep for the swallowing drugs scene and that it’s a “f*****”. Like no, this is actual real life shit drug traffickers do, it’s supposed to be unsettling and uncomfortable and dangerous Sam is polarizing, but HBO doesn’t seem to give a shit as his shows for the most part do well
20
Isserley_ Apr 16, 2026 +24
I've seen people on *listnook* saying that. This place is getting increasingly stupid.
24
Chrisaeos Apr 17, 2026 +3
It's been fascinating watching Listnook devolve over the last decade. Now having typed "over the last decade" I realize that I need to stop visiting this place.
3
NoDaddyNotTheBelt25 Apr 16, 2026 +4
The YouTube comments on their videos are f****** out there too.
4
MrGabrahamLincoln Apr 16, 2026 +4
Oh I’m sure Listnook’s no better with it. I just don’t follow anything Euphoria related here but on Twitter it shows up in my algorithm because Elon’s a moron & that website’s gone to shit. But yeah, media literacy feels like it’s getting worse every day.
4
Khiva Apr 17, 2026 +5
> on Twitter it shows up in my algorithm because **Elon’s** a moron You're the one still using it.
5
sexandliquor Apr 16, 2026 +13
Yeah Listnook has been like that for years around Euphoria and Sam Levinson. Fauxmoi, the pop culture chat sublistnook and r/Euphoria seem to all have this brain dead media literacy thing of “writer writes it, director directs it— must all be his actual sicko fantasies he wants to act out”. The whole “the art is a confession or endorsement” argument. It’s f****** weird.
13
AlexTorres96 Apr 17, 2026 +2
They think Tarantino is this nasty racist because of the line he uses in his movies. They think he says it like hello in everyday life.
2
The_ChwatBot Apr 16, 2026 +17
I seem to recall them saying he was a pedo long before S3 premiered because he made a show about high schoolers having sex. Unless there’s other stuff about him that I’m unaware of, I’ve always felt it was a bit of a stretch.
17
MrGabrahamLincoln Apr 16, 2026 +14
It’s a total stretch unless the actual actors were underaged lol. Sounds more like people trying to be the morality police or pull any reason possible to shit on the show. And look, I have no idea if it’s actually good or bad but at least have genuine criticisms if you don’t like it.
14
tfhermobwoayway Apr 17, 2026 +1
I mean it is pretty accurate to what actual high schoolers do. Say what you want about 30 something men but they apparently have a great understanding of the inner lives of teenage girls.
1
roguefilmmaker Apr 16, 2026 +2
Media literacy is dead
2
AnxiousBurro Apr 16, 2026 -1
I’ve also seen people on here criticizing the O******* plot point, claiming it’s basically an ad that will encourage young girls to copy Sweeney’s character once she makes a ton of cash. Like, sure.. because there's no way that decision could ever backfire on her, right?
-1
Pingupol Apr 17, 2026 +8
I mean, a guy who's whole deal seems to be shows with lots of nudity and sex in them, dedicating a significant amount of his time on a show mocking Intimacy Coordinators kind of shows what a fuckhead he is. Also, at least two actors (Sydney Sweeney and Minka Kelly) have came out and said they had to push back on Levinson because he kept insisting their characters had to be n*** when they felt it was unnecessary. Then obviously the wider controvery of The Idol and how Levinson was brought in to shift it away from the "female perspective" and the horrible mess that created. That said, I don't think any of that suggests he's a pedophile, and by all accounts he HAS employed intimacy coordinators on both Euphoria and The Idol. He doesn't have any actual allegations against him of making anyone feel unsafe (that I'm aware), just some statements that the crew felt uncomfortable whilst making The Idol. He seems like a bit of a hacky fuckwit with a weird perception of what cool is, but nothing beyond that, in my opinion at least.
8
AlexTorres96 Apr 17, 2026 +2
This sub loves when stars say that they loved having an IC and get fake upset if a star said they didn't want one or didn't use one. It's the same reaction on both sides and it never ends.
2
tfhermobwoayway Apr 17, 2026 +1
I agree. Actors see sex in a different way to the rest of us. They don’t really need someone to coordinate them or regulate it. To them it’s a beautiful artform.

That's just 3 things that are very popular but also very bland and just aim to have the most broad appeal possible ahead of all other traits (ie interesting well crafted plots, innovative ideas, great acting etc). They do however have things that sell, such as big famous stars, familiar characters, nostalgia or familiar formulas that audiences know what to expect. I think most people can have a pretty nuanced view of them for what they are: mass appeal content that follows a formulaic pattern but with little innovation.
3

CrossoverEpisodeMeme Apr 16, 2026 +112
>Per HBO, that is a 44% increase over the Season 2 premiere, which aired in January 2022. Damn, solid showing, and if I remember right, I believe seasons 1 and 2 were behind only Game of Thrones in terms of viewership numbers (though The Last of Us may have jumped Euphoria since then).
112
pepperbet1 Apr 16, 2026 +70
Long waits between seasons, as much as people complain, have proven to have no negative impact on a show's ratings. The popular ones, anyway.
70
donny_bennet Apr 16, 2026 +24
The popularity bit is pretty important here though. Sure, if a series is popular enough, people will watch the new season after 2-3 years. Euphoria was very popular back when it aired and some of it's cast became extremely famous in the meantime. Of course people will watch it. That doesn't really track for less popular shows though (especially if their cast is somewhat obscure).
24
HardcoreKaraoke Apr 16, 2026 +10
I'll never really understand why people are so adamant about that. This isn't 2006 where you need to buy the DVD set to rewatch a season. When the new season comes out just spend a few days rewatching the previous season(s) if you truly can't remember what happened. I'm bummed I won't see the next season of Severance for awhile and I'm sure I've forgotten some details. But a few weeks before it drops I'll start a rewatch because I like the show. It won't cost me anything I wouldn't already be spending to watch the new season. I'm sure most people feel the same way.
10
JustChilling_ Apr 16, 2026 +36
People complain about that because most people don't have infinite free time to keep re-watching the same seasons over and over. This is why I no longer start a show unless it's already fully done.
36
mamula1 Apr 16, 2026 +9
But then whe the show is fully done it's often too long and I don't have time to watch it either lol
9
monsieurxander Apr 16, 2026 +3
We don't need infinite time for an 8-episode season. Also recaps exist, and IMO just watching the previous season finale (where the major storylines come to a head) tends to work just fine.
3
naturesbfLoL Apr 17, 2026 +9
'just spend a few days rewatching the previous season(s)' like that's a small thing is crazy
9
HardcoreKaraoke Apr 17, 2026
I don't see what's so wild about watching a season a few weeks out. It's not like shows have long seasons anymore. I don't watch Euphoria but it's eight episodes a season. I think watching one or two episodes a night over the course of a couple of weeks isn't that big of a deal if you legitimately enjoy a show. I'm not saying binge the whole thing the day before.
0
naturesbfLoL Apr 17, 2026 +5
16 hours is just a lot of time, no matter how you slice it.
5
tfhermobwoayway Apr 17, 2026 +1
I mean I spend a lot of time playing video games which I could cut down on, but also in the past I didn’t have to do this.
1
tfhermobwoayway Apr 17, 2026 +1
Because I don’t want to have to wait two or three years just to see the next installment of a TV show. I have a life to live, man. I just want to see a completed story and be done with it.
1
pepperbet1 Apr 17, 2026 +1
Season recaps are fine enough for a refresher. I don't rewatch anything unless I just really love the show and want to experience it again, not because I need to jog my memory.

I mean Jacob, Zendaya and Sydney are super popular with young(er) generations at the moment, so it’s not surprising. I wish Hunter would be more in the spotlight, too, I think she’s great.

And also hurt narrative that long gaps between seasons hurt viwership. It depends obviously.

Can’t disagree with that

dudumob Apr 16, 2026 -2
it hurt the tv show barry

Dodo_Baron Apr 16, 2026 +14
Actually it apparently didn't it dropped on cable. But HBO Max had great viewership

nowaunderatedwaifngl Apr 17, 2026 +6
To be honest when the loudest criticism of the show is "GOD it's GROSS how over-SEXUALISED all the shit they're making SYDNEY Sweeney do is" it's no wonder people are watching. The critics are basically giving it free marketing.

blue0231 Apr 16, 2026 +29
The show can still suck and have tons of viewers.

Dodo_Baron Apr 16, 2026 +34
True but the people arguing longer wait between seasons leads to a drop in viewership also just doesn't seem to be true

donny_bennet Apr 16, 2026 +13
I'm not sure if we should use Euphoria as an example. Its cast became ridiculously popular after season 1. A lot of people will begin to watch it just because Zendaya, Elordi and Sweeney are in it.

mamula1 Apr 16, 2026 +6
Huge gap between S3 and S4 of Stranger Things didn't hurt that show either.

blue0231 Apr 16, 2026 +2
Very true

Jirachibi1000 Apr 17, 2026
That is not what is being discussed afaik. Its not that people are saying "This sucks" its that people are saying "Its a flop, a massive failure, no one watches this, etc".

I mean as a man who likes video games, I know not to base a product’s quality on its popularity. If I did that, I’d think the only games ever worth playing are Call of Duty and Fifa.

The second season ended on a note that kind of demanded a follow-up. I was extremely excited to see what came next after the brilliantly tragic ending of the last season. I’m not sure I’m all that interested after the negative reviews though.

All the plebs who know the inner workings of every person associated with this show and their personal lives are not going to be happy about this. Me as a pleb who just watches the show, I loved ep 1

mochafiend Apr 16, 2026 +10
I find all the discourse tiresome and just watched for the Zendaya of it all. Based on how Listnook acts, I thought I was supposed to be offended. But I wasn’t. It just isn’t that serious. *shrugs*

I don’t know if those metrics are good or not, but I’m sure there are plenty of people like me who have been waiting for some kind of closure and will hate watch this no matter how bad or stupid it is just to see how tf it ends after all these years

boogiebreakfast Apr 16, 2026 +25
That's definitely a thing. My wife hate watched all three miserable seasons of that Sex and the City remake and I was just like... you know, you don't have to do this, right?

No you don’t understand we do 😭

NotSwedishMac Apr 16, 2026 +11
Why do you want closure from something you hate watch? What makes you hate it?

AvailableReporter484 Apr 16, 2026
Just to be clear: I like euphoria and I’m very invested in the show. But at this point, with the timelapse, missing characters, offset drama, and now the initial reviews coming in that it looks like shit, i might be disappointed but it’s like i have to know how it ends and I’ll begrudgingly watch this under the assumption it’s the final season.

It’s really pretty, but very different and a lot more like crime noir vibe

I will never not enjoy threads dunking on the Listnook hive mind when it's wrong.

lunatofu Apr 16, 2026 +7
I never finished the 1st season but given it’s a 5 year jump and the big names, I wanted to watch the new season

A lot of these comments reaffirming dead internet theory for me. Y’all are winning arguments you’ve created in your heads. Just because people criticize it doesn’t mean they didn’t expect the season to get numbers, the show was a hot topic for so many years. No one’s denying that.

tfhermobwoayway Apr 17, 2026 +2
Yeah I don’t understand all the “this dunks on the listnook hivemind!” thing. Everyone knows Euphoria is popular. People just don’t think it’s a good show.

unhiddenninja Apr 17, 2026 +2
"Wow, people had different feelings than I did about a TV show? I'm so much better than they are." is how 90% of comments in this thread read. Can't describe what they liked about the show outside the context of a comment they saw criticizing it.

Is that a lot?

DoubletapKO Apr 17, 2026 +5
More viewer's than season 2 that released years ago

BondFan211 Apr 16, 2026 +2
100% convinced that the Sydney Sweeney dog scene spreading online had a lot to do with this. Listnookors angry over a jeans commercial don’t have the affect on numbers they think they do.

Season 3 seems more like pulp fiction to me lol

Saw a clip on TikTok, having never watched the show. Started on season three, episode one. Powered through the middle of the episode and was shocked by Zendaya’s acting. I only knew her from Spider-Man.

go watch s1 and 2 there are 2 covid episodes as well between s1 and 2. Zendaya won an emmy for the show

Good show? I never saw it. Seemed maybe too drama for me in a depressing kinda way. But I really don't know. Should I check it out?

desperaterobots Apr 16, 2026 +16
It’s really quite good, for what it is. And what is it? I see it as a really elevated, highly stylized, very adult version of the kind of young’adult borderline e*****, ‘mature themes’ teen drama novels/tv shows you’d see in the 80s and 90s. I mean that in the sense that it has a moral core but it doesn’t wrap anything up very neatly. It teases with sexual transgressions and weird suburban intrigue, but is pure melodrama. It treats itself seriously enough to be compelling, but doesn’t stand up to too much scrutiny, and the shows willingness to give itself to the pure drama is what makes it enjoyable. Great performances, has that great HBO magazine spread sheen, good music, good casting, and the writing is just lots of young people basically going OH MAYGH GUHD for an hour a week. I love it.

It’s a pretty realistic portrayal of the sorts of things modern teens go through in high school. I’m glad these things are finally getting representation.

picknicksje85 Apr 16, 2026 +1
Alright I'll give it a watch \^\^ Mostly was scared of being depressed after watching. Thanks for the write up!

It’s a mess but its so much fun, highly recommend it for the performances alone

Season 1 had its moments. Season 2 was an absolute casserole. If you don't have anything else on the backlog it couldn't hurt to watch an episode
