A similar serac collapsed in the same area some years ago and killed like a dozen sherpa workers setting up fixed lines

Everest isn't a particularly technical climb. It's kind of got a reputation of being a place where the rich can pay their way to the top of the mountain. The majority of Everest "mountaineers" are bored wealthy folks sometimes spending upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars to be guided up the mountain by teams of sherpas who are doing all of the difficult work.
Don't get me wrong, it's still dangerous, and deaths can and do happen due to unpredictable weather, avalanches, and altitude sickness. That being said, only about 1% of the 600-800 climbers a year don't make it back down the mountain alive. That number is starting to increase though, largely due to the amount of inexperienced, out of shape climbers who take the "pay-to-win" approach without putting in the effort or training.

You basically are hiking up Everest. If you want to climb you would choose other mountains that have vertical rock or ice faces. K2 is considered a particularly difficult climb from a technical standpoint.

If ever there was a signal from the mountain to humanity that it just wants to be left alone...

You just know some of the millionaires at Basecamp are moaning about how this has ruined their 2026 bucket list and are currently discussing getting flame throwers flown in to melt it.

I just read into thin air last month. The commercialization of this mountain is going to cause another disaster. It’s only a matter of time.

I care about bored dipshits climbing a mountain while the world is being turned upside down? Frig off.

I'm sure they can pay a few hundred Nepalis to plunge to their deaths so their adventure ego trek can continue.

So everyone is there to climb a mountain, full of things to climb over, but now there's a thing in the way of their climbing? Man I'm at a loss for what they could do here.
