While technically true (always the best kind) it would be in the hundreds of thousands to millions.
Needless to say when we got mad on road trips those windows went up and down repeatedly. Then they came out with those shitty window locks.

It’s not just energy that’ll go up. LNG and its byproducts of the process is used in a lot of different industries. Helium, Nitrogen, CO2, Propane, Butane, and even fertilizers will be affected by this. Every thing is going to go up in price not only because of transportation costs rising and energy costs also increasing, but food prices are going to skyrocket. Want to get yourself some medical care, well guess what helium (already constrained in supply) is going to make some medical supplies/equipment cost more which in turn means your medical care will have to increase to cover the cost.

What’s nuts about everything is trumps strategy to lower costs / control inflation / his only policy position was that everything would be cheaper because “drill baby drill”
So now because of him actually going the complete opposite way (increasing energy costs across the board), how is he going to lower prices and control inflation? (He wasn’t and isn’t)

Because state elections aren't under federal purview, Trump can't actually stop the elections from happening. This isn't a "oh it would be against the law" thing, more a fact that he has no real ability, legal or otherwise, to stop them from happening, no more than he could stop the counting of votes in 2020 by tweeting "Stop the count!"
What he could and will do is use DHS/ICE to try to intimidate voters in blue cities.
17
BwobMar 19, 2026
+5
I don't think you've thought this far enough ahead. You're still counting on too many rules holding or being enforced.
Elections only hold power if people agree to abide by the results. What happens when trump declares elections canceled, and then only the blue states hold them? And then the red states sue, saying that the election didn't count because it was canceled?
And of course it ends up in front of the supreme court. How certain are you, that they wouldn't invent some justification, based on 16th century witch-hunter law, that counting the election would be unfair to the people living in the red states, who didn't get a chance to vote?

Ironically, the issue with increasing American production was not regulations or access to environmentally protected areas, it was that the existing price of oil didn't justify new production. Any new American oil production is expensive, because it's more difficult to extract (eg fracking). The impediment to increasing American production is that $60/barrel oil wasn't worth it.
So by dramatically increasing world oil prices, he has actually made increased American production more viable.
In short, increased American oil production was never going to lower the price of oil, because it would only occur when oil prices were high.
24
Lifesagame81Mar 19, 2026

The second that trump leaves office, and the immediate threat is gone, moderates (especially left leaning moderates) and some on the left will stop showing up to polls. There's also this absolutely asinine idea of some in the left of "well, voting doesn't matter, because they're both conservatives, and none of the candidates are perfect, so I just won't vote." Which I think is pushed by bots more than anything else, but it takes hold a bit too well.
The right always votes. Every single time. Mainly because they're mostly retired old fucks with nothing better to do with their time, but they always vote.
We saw this after trump's first term. In the 2022 congressional elections, the Democrats lost the house. In the 2024 elections, Democrats lost everything. Without the major, overarching, immediate threat, moderate voters will not show up. I hate it. I hate it so much.

What’s funny is I used to think that almost all impacts attributed to a president are bullshit. They don’t have a magic gas price button, their power is actually fairly limited and a 4 year term isn’t really long enough for big policy impacts to take effect (e.g. even if you pass big infrastructure investments, the effects won’t be felt until after your term when those projects finish).
Trump has proven that wrong.
If you want to tear the country down, a single president can do that fast. Breaking things is easy. There is no magic low gas price button, but lighting the Middle East on fire is a petty solid “high gas price button”

Yeah well Trump fucked over a lot of the renewable industry last year. I work for a company that used to produce 36 million gallons of biodiesel from used cooking oil (one of the lowest carbon intensity fuels). We're completely shut down at the moment because we were taking losses every time we produced anything last year, due to a few things the EPA changed last year, along with tariffs. The biggest impact was allowing many more petroleum refineries to be completely exempted from the EPAs Carbon cap and trade program, but there were a few other things they did as well.
I know 36M gallons is a drop in the bucket compared to what goes through the Hormuz, but every bit of domestic renewable production matters and it's all party of the larger solution in the long run. And on top of that, a lot of really great people lost their jobs.

As wild as it’s been. The Iranians have been pretty restrained. They could have been blowing up a refinery a week and disrupting the existing global hegemony in very serious way.
As bad as this is (even ignoring the ecological disaster of blowing up these facilities) I’ve been surprised by how few of these actions they’ve taken.
Much of the OPEC oil infrastructure is within their striking range. They have the ability to seriously f*** the world economy.
For as much as we talk about how extreme and crazy they are. Their response has been the response of a rational actor. Not a threatened religious zealot with no capacity for logical thinking.

Iran knows this war is unpopular to the American people. They have to make sure there are consequences for this illegal attack for their survival but they also know, the only way to "win" this war of attrition, they need to keep it unpopular with the American people.

Those OPEC countries are worried that they will be left to deal with the consequences when hostilities end. Unless the Iranian regime collapses, which is highly unlikely, they will be left with a much more adversarial country that will remember who sided with the US and Israel on their strikes.
It would also probably look bad for the Saudis in terms of their home public perception to be seen sliding in on a war alongside Israel.

Possibly **6-7** dollar a gallon gas in Florida is predicted if this war continues for another two-three weeks. Attacks like this mean gas prices and oil prices will not only go up but remain high for years, crippling the ability of poor and middle class americans to afford basics like groceries and utilities.
Trump and his goons have doomed the world to a crappy depression era economy for at least a decade for no discrenable upside.
And now reports that they want to do a land invasion of a well armed and prepared nation with a land area two and half times that of Texas, with enviroments ranging from urban to mountainous, freezing, and sweltering hot deserts. Asking our military to invade such a massive area with a tiny fraction of the numbers needed to actually support such an effort? And with what end goal? The creation of a new regime? The breakup of the country that has a long entrenched sense of national identity? Do these people realize just how insipid and stupid they are to even attempt such a thing?
It's literally a long running joke: **Never get involved in a land war in Asia**
So terrible economy at home, dying Americans abroad, and the end goal? No one, not even the person who started it knows.
We can only hope the people who began this ill-advised atrocity will pay for this at the ballot box. Trump and any Republican who has not disavowed him and his dumb idiotic war.
**A vote for a Republican is a vote for more war and higher prices.**
That's ***the*** line. IF Democrats cant win this next election in most places by talking about the price of gas alone, they don't deserve to be in public office.

Iran has been attacked many times and always retaliated in relatively moderated ways. Even the few skirmish it started were a little more than a flash in a pan.
The way they are waging now, knowing their military inferiority, is scary. They know they can't take either Israel or the US head on, so they are explicitly trying to disrupt the world's economy and fundamental infrastructures to let third parties intervene and help put an end to an unwarranted aggression.
Thhe US will lose many allies because of this war, and the world il probsbly tell them to stop at some point. We are collectively losing too much by enabling a nazist state and a fascist one further their agendas.

The faux outrage from Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, et all just blows my mind.
You let another nation use your lands as staging ground and launching location for missiles bombarding another country. You have defacto struck the first blow against Iran and you want to pretend they are somehow attacking you out of the blue when they strike back? Any reasonable accounting of the facts here will conclude that you started the hostilies here even if it's not your country's military doing the attacking, it's only possible for them to do it because you have chosen to cooperate to let it happen.
I mean, f*** Iran, but also f*** these guys.

The have allowed belligerent forces to remain in the nation, rather than expelling or detaining, which leaves them their nations as legitimate military targets.
Whether the actual Iranian missle targets should be considered legitimate targets is then a seperate discussion.

Something to keep in mind: decreasing supply doesn’t mean that prices will rise by 17%. It means that prices will rise until 17% of buyers leave the market. Given that there are a lot of big industries that need constant shipments of gas and oil, and who have deep pockets, they will keep buying regardless of the price. It’s the small businesses and consumers who will be priced out first.
