I wonder what that ODing Clavicular guy would think about kid rock getting famous. He seems to think you need to be good looking to be successful but Kid Rock had a good run despite looking like the smallest newborn sewer rat in the litter. Can’t say he had musical talent either. Checkmate Clav.

He began his career cosplaying as a kid from the streets of Detroit despite actually being a silver spooned brat from the wealthy suburb of Romeo, MI. He grew up on his family's property that was on several acres and featured a guest home, their own private tennis courts (plural), pool, jacuzzi, etc. Real "urban". Then halfway thru his career he pivoted to cosplaying as a folksy down home salt of the earth fella despite being even wealthier then his already wealthy background. Now he has pivoted yet again and tweeked his common man salt of the earth persona to more of a trailer park bigot who openly embraces prejudice and nationalism and views unyielding ignorance as a source of pride. There's never been a single genuine thing about this slow witted jackass other then his desire to jump on any bandwagon that affords him a personality since he has none of his own.

when ICP uses "Richie" in a song as a derogatory term for spoiled rich turds, they're directly referencing Kid Rock aka Robert Ritchie. They had him on their first album but quickly realized what a f****** phony he is.

I believe a few years in an interview Shaggy 2 Dope said they were a Christian band and Shangri-la is heaven. I have not confirmed since I read that article if they are sticking with that or it was a joke, but I will continue to believe they are a Christian Musical group because that's so funny if true.

Phony how? Like maybe their version of rap isn’t your thing and I don’t blame you, but those two have more DIY cred and the history to back it up than many artists. Built their own successful label, built their own lucrative merchandise business, booked their own tours, built their own successful festival, and so on. How many major rap/hip hop artists with arguable more success can compare to what they built on their own if they’re that phony as you think they are?

I'm thinking he's everything you said except slow witted. He knows exactly what he needs to do to appeal to his core audience. The MAGA festival was a misfire but he'll keep touring and making music. Not good music but it'll keep him in front of whatever 3rd tier c***** is willing to book him and maybe he'll sell some merch.

Low_Intention_1327 3 days ago +16
Hes been irrelevant since 99 with his first album. No one gave a shit about his switch to Country except idiots with confederate flags on their cars. These people who change genres are always awful and they dong change genres because they have the talent to do so, but because theyre not making any money off of their original music. MGK ring a bell? Everlast had one good song after the lead singer left the rap genre.
16
barley_wine 3 days ago +14
Let's be fair from early 99 until 2001 he was pretty relevant and one of the biggest acts during that time period. Being in high school in 99 it seemed everyone had a Devil Without a Cause. Heck Cocky sold 6 million copies and Picture was very popular. Not sure why I'm defending him though he's been pretty much irrelevant from 2001 on. He had a brief revival with the MAGA crowd but then everyone had to admit that really his music isn't good and doesn't hold up well. I don't think his embarrassing lip singing act during the Superbowl helped.
14
ChocolateOrange21 3 days ago +8
I don't like the guy either, but the revisionist history because we don't like someone is an annoying trope. Man was huge for quite a few years. At least five years (1998-2003). And I maintain doing the "Picture" duet with Sheryl Crow is what saved his career. He doesn't have that hit, he flames out quicker. "All Summer Long" is trash and the worst song to ever become a hit though. But it was a hit.
8
DarknMean 3 days ago +4
Stealing Skynrds music was bad enough.
4
Better_March5308 3 days ago +3
His song with the Lynyrd Skynyrd sample sucks bad.
3
Low_Intention_1327 3 days ago +3
Im not trying to be a revisionist. I saw my first post but I basically meant for that time frame. I only remember 99 being that one hit he made.  When Im talking about when I listened to him and leading up to when I never really heard him anymore, and 99 - 2003 isnt a long gap and I dont get it. Im agreeing with you and the other person. The only other songs I can even remember is that dumbass Cowboy song. People felt he was a sell out and probably only appealed to some country folk.    His worst song was the one that started his anti woke garbage, imo. That's another area where conservatives such entire ass. Every artist thats been political and iconic are on the Left. Dont forget those idiots not knowing what machine RATM was raging at. I guess you cant rap about a grift.
3
PSChris33 3 days ago +2
> And I maintain doing the "Picture" duet with Sheryl Crow is what saved his career. He doesn't have that hit, he flames out quicker. Why did you have to remind me? Someone always performs it at karaoke and it always makes me regret being able to hear.
2
Low_Intention_1327 3 days ago +3
I like one of his songs. I was in high school then, 10th grade. Thats the run I meant. 99 was his single "Bawida blah blah blah", some other hits and then tbe redneck bs started up. As long as were admitting to listening to his music at one point, I was also listening to ICP, and Ive only told my gf that. Sorry, that stuffs pretty goofy when youre an adult and look back on it.     I feel he only was only popular because he slipped in during the rise of Nu Metal. By the way, Nu Metal can't hold a candle to the historic Public Enemy and Anthrax collab. Many rappers after that starter making metal riff beats. That broke the barrier for both genres, especially Public Enemy's message that made conservatives unconcomfortable, while many metal heads felt acts like Kid Rock killed the metal scene.
3
Objective-Lab5179 2 days ago +2
I agree. I saw him live twice Once in 2002. It was a good show. I saw him again in 2004 because tickets were $10. It was like watching one of those rock n roll revue shows one would see at SixFlags. But we're 22 years removed and his best days are way behind him. When you cater to the MAGA crowd, that means you've lost every other crowd.

I LOVED Bawitdaba when it came out and would sing it all the time in the car/listen to it at home. I’d literally scream the “MY NAME IS KIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD KID ROCK!” Part I should mention I was 9 when it came out, that’s about the level of brain development (or lack therof) needed to enjoy his music.

antisocialdecay 3 days ago +107
The last time I smelled relevance on him was, 2001-2003? Saw him with Aerosmith and Run DMC. Great show. Then he butchered Zevon and that was that for my listening days. Almost a quarter century since that concert. So decline is being f****** generous for Kid Dr Phil Lindell Rock.
107
aqiwpdhe 3 days ago +44
He had that hit “All Summer Long” in 2007-2008 they played nonstop everywhere. The one that sampled werewolves of London and Sweet home Alabama. But even that was 18 years ago
