Existing Movies that may benefit from being re-produced in a different style?

Posted by novemberchild71

So the trend to re-do animated movies as mixed media spectacles will not go away any time soon. What will be next? Hercules? Cuzco's New Groove? Ren & Stimpy? Darkwing Duck... wait... that one might work... But what animation could adult viewers want to see re-done with a state-of-the-art mix of CGI and Live-Action? And also, what do you think of going the other way: Turning (classic?) Live action into High-Class Animation? No holds barred! Maybe a completely new E.T.? Imagine taking full advantage of today's technology and budgets(!!!) to tell it as the epic animated fantasy adventure they simply couldn't produce in 1982! Imagine seeing his home world? Imagine the Spooks being really menacing government types? Imagine E.T. visiting CURRENT America? The Arrival being leaked... Or what about The Iron Giant? Wouldn't that be something? And what about animation to AI-nimation (or anim-AI-tion)? While I would root for it, I see no future for a re-adapted Neon Genesis Evangelion. why would anyone want that? 9 times out of 10 (being generous) live-action remakes just ruin everything

Hence the option to argue for the opposite. Live Action to Animation, mustn't even be high class. Some people have fond memories of watching Extreme Ghostbusters. Sorry, that's the only "reverse" adaptation coming to my mind right now.

Not sure how well that would work since the only reason they remake animated movies into live-action is because those animated movies were massively successful and they want to double dip into the huge earnings. Since they are mostly made for kids who don't care how many times they see the same movie, they just want to see their favorite characters over and over again. Going the other way around (live-action -> animated) wouldn't really work in my opinion since the most successful movies aren't aimed at kids but towards adults and they are often violent or riddled with tough topics to turn into animation and the resulting remake most likely won't reach even close to the original's earnings. Plus there's no reason to remake movies that didn't earn huge amounts of money but are more kid friendly from a business perspective as it's too much of a financial risk. So it most likely won't ever happen unless some billionaire has some nostalgia trip and wants to remake a movie for himself. In the end all that matters to the studios is money.

Watership down! Imagine the impact if instead of the cartoon, you have utterly adorably cute bunnies.

I was just not going there because of the Peter Rabbit and Zootopia movies.

We're not there yet, but I think VR being the next step after 3D in theaters would be interesting. I imagine it'd be a nightmare to shoot a full live action film in such a way to support that tech though

And, as the viewer, be a helpless bystander? Like an embedded journalist? Railed through the plot? I for one would hate that. Then better make it immersive and allow a certain level of "interaction" like one of those old "find your fate" books.

E.T. in full CGI and animation? Hell yes. Imagine the world-building, bro, that’d be crazy. *The Iron Giant* definitely has room for a new, epic version. As for live-action-to-animation, I could see *The Matrix* in that style—make it all stylized and trippy. Wouldn’t be mad at that.

I never understood how people did not get that the whole "trick" that made the The Matrix so special was it being a life-action version of japanimation. Bringing it back into that style might be sorta redundant, but it would certainly sell.
