People were shocked the first time it happened, but I feel like I have been hearing the same news for several years in a row now. Perhaps, some recent construction projects blocked the waterway?

Was in Dubai in the 2000's. They have little to no storm sewer capacity at all. Even a light rain can cause street flooding. Most of the infrastructure design has little planning for runoff as historically the area received next to nothing in precipitation - with what little there was occurring in the Dec -> Feb time frame.

They do cloud seeding. I don't think it is related to climate change.

Dubai is the most poorly planned modern city on the planet.

All the money in the world, but a lack of imagination and poor planning.

*Of contemporary planned cities.
People in a legacy cities with low-income areas of course are many times worse. Cities like Cairo, with a history that goes back very far, are so bad they want to relocate the capital just to escape the clusterfuck they have on hand.

While I get your /s, I think there is always a chance with these kind of regimes that something is retroactively declared undesireable or illegal if it makes them look bad. I still dont get why people with an understanding of democratic values think that Dubai is some kind of paradise.

>still dont get why people with an understanding of democratic values think that Dubai is some kind of paradise.
That's probably because of the millions of dollars they spent on propoganda.
I mean, porta potty was getting some attention and they immediately started the Dubai Chocolate trend. It's well coordinated.

The amount of people simping for these countries in their sublistnooks is ridiculous. They're cancelling visas for Iranian people who have lived there for generations right now. Like imagine having your whole life somewhere and they give you a week to leave.
Many of these people think they should stay because they owe it to the country but if something goes wrong and there is an evacuation they'll be at the bottom of the list for people the country tries to save. You can be born there and live your whole life there, but if you lose your job as an adult you're out. Living there is a business deal but people fall for the propaganda and many are delusional about where they stand in the hierarchy.

Brave of you to assume the people headed to Dubai possess this. Actually scratch that. Brave of you to assume many people at all have this.

They can’t have a proper sewage system because of all the sand and dust that will block them.

Was there two years ago, nearly same time (April). First one in decades they said. It was absolutely crazy.
