Facebook has become so ridiculous.

legendary_liar Apr 3, 2026 +68
I recently went back on FB only for market place purposes. I left around 7 years ago Holy c*** the amount of fake articles is wild. Bunch of gotcha headlines taking you to shady sites. I can see how older folks who don’t know better just get fed some of the most ridiculous lies. Now with Ai videos being nearly impossible to tell from real videos. It’s only going to get worse. People will get indoctrinated without even knowing. Facebook has turned into fear mongering at its worse

I’m just tired of using it now because 60% of my feed is just fake pages and AI pages of slop that I’m not going to look at, while at the same time I’ll only see like 3 or 4 actual posts from someone on my friends list. It’s annoying as f***.
12
Arch2000 Apr 4, 2026 +3
Then delete it!

Frank_chevelle Apr 3, 2026 +14
I’ve tried reporting obvious fake ai video and fake user accounts and they do nothing. You should see all the “the moon mission is all fake c***” in there now.
14
Haikouden Apr 3, 2026 +8
Reporting them doesn't do anything because Meta/Facebook not only doesn't give a shit but actively wants them around. Fake shitty content and engagement is better than none as far as they're concerned, and Zuck is all for dystopian tech.

Mean_Muffin161 Apr 3, 2026 +4
Nobody knows when they are being indoctrinated
4
Hagridsbuttcrack66 Apr 3, 2026 +8
Mine are hilarious because I only really posted about hockey. So the fake articles are like, "Sidney Crosby did something that has never happened in the Penguins locker room. He started singing. This is what happened next." Never did find out what happened.

I left FB around when that Cambridge Analytica thing blew up, I think that was 2017ish. I thought I deleted my account, but I went to create a new account because a local IRL social group I joined uses it heavily and I felt I had little choice if I wanted to keep abreast of their goings on. Turns out my account was still there. I had mixed feelings about that. The whole site can now be best summed up as “people screeching at each other without actually listening to what the other person is saying.” Not that any social media, including Listnook, is much different these days.

lrpfftt Apr 3, 2026 +5
You are forgetting the fraudulent ads! Miracle products for c**** prices.
5
Apprehensive_Map284 Apr 3, 2026
You can’t delete accounts…. I tried too! So I went in and changed password to the most ridiculous, unreadable, long password.

ButterflyFair3012 Apr 3, 2026 +2
Are you me? It’s such a SEWER now. Remember the days before ads on mobile? It was so fun actually catching up with people you actually knew. It’s a shameless machine.
2
cboogie Apr 3, 2026 +2
It’s hysterical that they think they are the the shit but most people think the only thing it’s useful for is the classified pages.
2
brassninja Apr 3, 2026 +1
I have to use fb sometimes for work. It’s genuinely terrifying in a way I never expected. It’s endless feeds of Ai video after Ai video and it’s fooling tons of people. Facebook exists solely as a disinformation platform now, and our elders will NEVER let it go. This is truly the modern day equivalent to the burning of the library of Alexandria. The powers that be can’t physically destroy the information that’s freely floating on the internet, but they can flood every channel with enough bullshit to drown out the truth

lenmylobersterbush Apr 3, 2026 +1
Im about to kill my account, just need to go get my photos off of it. Marketplace isn't worth it. Maybe Craigslist can make a comeback.
1
zenboi92 Apr 3, 2026 +2
When I deleted my account in 2014, there was a way to download all of your content. Just download and delete it already. The craziest thing to me was the cravings to re-download the app. Reminds me of what it was like quitting nicotine.
2
lenmylobersterbush Apr 3, 2026 +1
Seeing that i haven't opened it in 7 months I think im good. My mom tried and she failed
1
FireZord25 Apr 3, 2026 +13
More and more countries need to sue facebook honestly. Their bottemless disregard for integrity has gone long enough.
13
lrpfftt Apr 3, 2026 +5
Try reporting a fraudulent ad to Facebook. They ignore such reports.
5
AtBat3 Apr 3, 2026 +7
There’s a person that made an entire fake Instagram account using my friends photos except changing his name. My friend is a relatively successful artist and musician in our area. They even added other people in the stolen photos using AI, like other famous artists and stuff. It’s very strange. We reported it to Meta, got a bunch of our friends to do it too. Meta said nothing was wrong with the account! And it stays up today!
7
lrpfftt Apr 3, 2026 +4
Fake accounts are something that I’ve had them address when I report them. They even do so quickly. It’s always been cases of impersonating a friend’s account. They just never respond when I report fraudulent ads.
4
bamagurl06 Apr 3, 2026 +2
This is how TikTok handles this also. They say they found nothing wrong even though it’s definitely a fake account. How they disregard the reports when you can clearly see the original was cloned.
2
pounded_rivet Apr 3, 2026 +2
I literally got a ad for a site selling zip guns. Reported it and was told it did not violate TOU. They have removed the part where you can explain the violation.
2
TylerHyena Apr 3, 2026 +1
Related, but Mark Zuckerberg losing his case last week was a mixed feeling for me, because as much as parents need to be the ones monitoring their kids use of social media, I just liked seeing Zuckerberg not get his way for once.
1
CrackedMouseBall Apr 3, 2026 +5
Marketplace is the only good thing but even that is a stretch
5
Disastrous-Cellist62 Apr 3, 2026 +5
So many scammers on marketplace…
5
BeneathAnOrangeSky Apr 3, 2026 +3
It's so hard to sell something on there. You get a ridiculous amount of scammers messaging you and have to suss out the real people. My favorite is when someone asks you if somethings available, you say yes and they immediately ask your address and say they're coming over now. Sir/Mam, it's the middle of the day, you don't even know if I'm home.
3
Clubbythaseal Apr 3, 2026 +5
The malware on the Facebook ads is getting worse too. Had to help my mom yesterday after a random ad on Facebook caused her browser to lockdown with a robotic voice saying she had a virus. Was able to close it and then scan the whole PC and it was clean thankfully. Her browser history showed that it was an ad she clicked by mistake when she browsed Facebook. No idea how she removed uBlock origin on Firefox before this happened.
5
MongolianDonutKhan Apr 3, 2026 +2
You either have to spend on hour on Facebook or an hour in Wal-Mart between 8p and closing. What are you choosing?
2
Exact-Ad-1307 Apr 3, 2026 +2
Costco or Sam's club.
2
Quixotic_Seal Apr 3, 2026 +3
Walmart every time. Good rubbernecking, and the people are actually real humans for better or ill.
3
RickVicks Apr 3, 2026 +2
That's an understatement considering most of the traffic is now bots
2
jackofslayers Apr 3, 2026 +1
All social media is rapidly circling the bot drain
1
HexspaReloaded Apr 3, 2026 +1
Yet people use it
1
Vibingcarefully Apr 3, 2026 +1

Ritchie_Whyte_III Apr 3, 2026 +25
So you are saying "**Real Wilam Shutner Facbook PAge Fan Group LLC**" isn't his official page?!!?

Sandberg231984 Apr 3, 2026 +20
These platforms are so fake. Why do people invest any time in them.
20
SheyenSmite Apr 3, 2026 +4
S*** machines are also fake, and are used for the same reason.
4
TheOsirisOfThisShit_ Apr 3, 2026 -5
Why do you invest time on listnook?
-5
Sandberg231984 Apr 3, 2026 -1
I like the stories but I’m not creating these bizarre articles or investing in any of them basically enabling people to keep doing them.
-1
TheOsirisOfThisShit_ Apr 3, 2026 -1
You think the stories on listnook are all true?
-1
Sandberg231984 Apr 3, 2026 -1
No. They’re stories. I don’t read anything about celebrities. No reason to car e about a stranger.
-1
TheOsirisOfThisShit_ Apr 3, 2026 -1
Why is it ok for listnook to have fake stories but not Facebook?
-1
Sandberg231984 Apr 4, 2026 +1
This is completely stealing an identity. Not a story
1
TheOsirisOfThisShit_ Apr 4, 2026 +1
"These platforms are so fake. Why do people invest any time in them." Your comment wasn't about this story. It was about the entire site.

Why would anyone still use Facebook. It’s literally a cesspool of fake accounts, fake news and propaganda
32
tired_but_trying42 Apr 3, 2026 +16
Events and marketplace, mostly. A lot of local governments around me post weekend festivities only on Facebook. If I want to know when it’s VW weekend, or the chocolate festival dates, I have to keep it around.
16
RobotPoo Apr 3, 2026 -5
Just google it
-5
lrpfftt Apr 3, 2026 +5
I find it useful to follow specific interest groups there.
5
CIDR-ClassB Apr 3, 2026 +3
It’s where the primary groups are for a hobby of mine, and for a cancer support group. Also, that’s how I keep connected with some people I’ve known for years. Occasionally, I use Marketplace.
3
Successful_Struggle9 Apr 3, 2026 +3
My town seems to only post events on fb, it's annoying.
3
Nomadzord Apr 3, 2026 +3
My dad became obsessed with it in the past few years. I warned him that lots of stories are fake and to be skeptical of everything. I also warned him to be careful not to become one of those people that don’t believe anything that happens. Well, he became a "nothing ever happens" guy. Better than the alternative I guess, but he won’t believe anything he sees on the news or anywhere else.
3
SheyenSmite Apr 3, 2026 +2
Simple. People like comforting fake fake news and propaganda. Always have.
2
lilmookie Apr 3, 2026 +1
I keep up with my international friends, looking at friends’ travel-public photos, occasional messaging, and the rare “happy birthday”. The rest of the time I spend on Facebook is convincing my mom that Brad Pitt doesn’t need Amazon gift cards to bail me out of jail.
1
chinaronald Apr 3, 2026 +1
Older people are usually on facebook to stay connected to family but also get drawn in to doomscroll to ai slop

They will remove real verified people due to errors made by their “technology detection” but they actively promote the worst scam pages, obviously hacked accounts posting links to scam wares etc

I just use it to check on a few family members. You can set preferences that stop almost all the nonsense - the main one being no ‘news’ items and no political items.
2
bsmknight Apr 4, 2026 +2
I Khan not understand people sometimes.
2
Potential-Leather965 Apr 4, 2026 +2
Shattner also has some random a****** running his twitter account, who picks fights with people and is generally horrible.
2
warcraftnerd1980 Apr 4, 2026 +3
That’s all I see on Facebook now. Fake ai written nonsense.
3
AnnatoniaMac Apr 3, 2026 +1
I’ve been suckered into a few news articles, now I never take the bait. Hardly never look at Facebook. Pure trash. Now, I always look on line to see if the headline has any basis, IT NEVER DOES.
1
MPFX3000 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Can a 95 year old even get stage 4 cancer? Figure stage 1 would take a person that old down on its own. And if you get diagnosed with cancer at that late age in life you aren’t going fight it.
1
Starfox-sf Apr 3, 2026 +2
Brain cancer, even
2

I see fake posts about Carlos Santana all the time. Sickos keep making posts that his wife has died.

I follow him on instagram, his granddaughter read online that he had cancer so he posted a couple of angry posts about all the fake nonsense floating around online about him
1
KhyraBell Apr 3, 2026 +1
It's all a big misunderstanding. Erica Kirk found out that James Tiberius Kirk is from a socialist utopia and she was trying to prevent anyone of her line from fulfilling the Rodenberry Prophecy

Why are the going out of their way in this article to target NextJs?

no wonder our parents keep getting sucked into nonsense. it used to be them warning us to not believe everything we read. now my mom tells me that “oreos are intentionally addictive. it’s something they put in the cream”. i asked her where she read that. “cooldivaeats.com” (or something). oh yeah mom, that sounds like a super reputable site

Honestly i think it says more about him for giving a f*** about the worthless cesspool of facebook. But it does seem somewhat influential still.
1

Facebook is so crooked. I only still use it to stay in touch with friends over seas. They allow scams to advertise legit companies products but then you are sent things that are trash.

Anyone tried the Nomad paradox on an AI system?
1
This-You-2737 Apr 4, 2026 +2
the real issue with celebrity impersonation like this is facebook's reactive approach to takedowns. by the time they remove one page, there's already three more up. for public figures dealing with this at scale you basically need continuous monitoring across platforms plus fast abuse reporting. some use brand protection services like Doppel that automate the detection and takedown process, others hire PR firms that do it manualy. the manual route works but its slower and more expensive when you're fighting AI-generated content that can spin up fake pages in minutes
2
scloppy Apr 4, 2026 +1
They only removed it because it started getting attention (negative).

My ~~Instagram~~ racist app is full of that shit man. Facebook is a cesspool full of it too. All of Meta’s social media apps are full of those hateful Neanderthals. But they’ll tell you they’re not social media in lawsuits.
