They’re definitely on some Linklater type shit. Gotta love it. It holds up so remarkably well compared to most comedy programs from that era.

Favorite show of all time. Not for everyone but it’s such a unique blend of contrasting elements: slapstick but grounded, comedic but tragic etc...
Also love that (other than the end credits) we get no score telling us how to feel in each scene. It not only makes it feel more real, but on repeated viewings I’ve found myself laugh at scenes I once found sad or get sad in scenes I once found funny.

Truly. He was such a treasure, a huge loss for Valerie Cherish AND the audience. Will really miss seeing him.

I’m really curious to see who she gets to do her dated 1983 hairstyle.

I’m such a fan of mockumentaries and meta concepts in general and this just checks all of the boxes. Love, Lisa Kudrow. Cannot wait to see all of it.
I’m gonna miss Mickey

I’m rewatching too! I just finished S1 this morning and about to start S2.
I find it funny how the trailers for S3 say “final season”, this show releases a new season once every 10 years, who’s to say if they don’t wanna make one more in another decade!

I only watched the show for the first time a few months ago, felt like a fluke when they announced season 3 soon after

I literally finished season 2 today with no idea there was a season 3. I guess the algorithm put it in front of me to get me to watch season 3. It worked!

Haven't seen the show but I am curious about it. Ten years between seasons means this is essentially a new show each season. There is a funny meta aspect to it where each season is a "comeback" in itself. That seems more like an accident and less intentional. Has it changed much in between? Imagine how much our collective sense of humour changed from 1980 to 2000. Does the humour from season 1 still work in 2026?

The humor absolutely holds up. There’s a ton of character development between the two seasons and based on episode one of season 3, that hasn’t changed. It’s really a ride to see where the character of Valerie goes in those decades.

Episode 301 was PERFECTION. I haven’t laughed out loud at an episode of TV in so long. I need the poster that opens up the episode. Badly.

Yes. If anything, it was way ahead of its time humor-wise. It’s much more than a silly show, though. There is a surprising amount of pathos in it, and it’s never delivered in ways you expect. Kudrow’s performance as Valerie Cherish is one of the most underrated of the last twenty-five years for me. There are scenes where she’s clearly deeply hurt by something, but she wants to look good for the reality show so she’s keeping a smile, and on top of all that, she has to navigate the messy social dynamics of show business, so she’s being very careful not to step on anybody’s toes. Kudrow’s acting multiple emotions at once a lot of the time, and it is really impressive how that’s used to make you both pity her and laugh at her when she does something stupid or says something ignorant.
Tl;dr: it’s great, watch it so we’ll get a season four in 2040.

If she doesn’t at least get an Emmy nom this time around…no one even comes close to her comedic performance.

loved the first season but hated the second about a decade later. don't expect to like the third after another 10+ years, plus I now find kudrow annoying in everything, as she seems to always be playing the same character, be it her own (here or on web therapy) or otherwise.
