He set up a site where people with Colombian and European ancestry can get a home kit to get tested to be possible stem cell matches for his kid. [https://swabformax.com/](https://swabformax.com/)

The time remaining countdown on that website is ominous

I want to be sure my data isn’t being sold to anyone (or given to the US government) before I sign up. Otherwise I have European heritage, so I guess it can’t hurt to try 🤷🏼‍♂️.

Disturbing to see the countdown timer at the top of the page already down to 3 days. If I was within that age range, I'd definitely take a swap test.

Note, I think the timer is until April 1, the goal to get 1 million swabs. I don't believe it is a countdown to Max's chances/life.

I am already in the registry, I signed up after I lost my Dad to AML. I just forwarded this to my contacts. Thank you for posting.

>18-35 years old I'm apparently too old to be a last resort for somebody's kid. Feels bad, man.

Ah f***. I just turned 36. F*** my stem cells I guess.

moba_fett Mar 30, 2026 +35
It says "18-55" Thats for the test. Article does say "idea age is 18-35" but if you try to register it then says "18-55"

The [swabformax.com](http://swabformax.com) website says 35 on the homepage.

I'm 38 and after putting my info in it says I'm eligible.

Huh. GD, youre not wrong. I missed that, went one step further and got a different age. Now I'm wondering if I should still sign up?

Yes. Because you might be a match for someone else.

Same. I checked the test kit sign up and it's also only available in the US.

If you are in Germany, India, Chile, Poland, United Kingdom, or anywhere in Africa, you may still be able to get a free kit! Just press "no" to the US question and scroll down. Especially if Germany, because it was founded in Germany. Otherwise, when I was going through the NMDP website which features Max and is what I associate with swabs for donors, I was not asked about country status: https://www.nmdp.org/ It appears from Google searches they share registry!

I'm 44 and appearently eligable so *shrug* I'm also Half European Half Latino so I'm a better candidate than most.

I can't register/donate because I have lupus. But my partner is getting a kit now and I'm spamming my friends with the link. Thank you for bringing attention to this.

I didnt know it was so hard for those of us that are mixed raced. I imagine its worse in any other country. No country is as mixed as the US.

I learned this last year when I visited my dad's cousin that had to do bone marrow transplants. It's better if your ethnicity is the same. I'm mixed race so I've signed up to be a donor to maybe help some half white half Asians like me. The donation process is a lot easier than it used to be now too so that's encouraging.

Hey, fellow half white half Asian! I also signed up because I know I might be the only match for someone out there. I've been on the registry for 22 years and no calls yet. I guess the flip side of having a hard time finding a match is that you'll be less likely to be the match too. Anyhow, thanks for looking out for me and I'm glad to do the same for you.

You dont even need to be 50/50 or 75/25. I learned that after a boy in my country with distant asian ancestory couldnt find a match.

EmbarrassedPut3706 Mar 30, 2026 +7
I just signed up! Not sure I’ll be a match for Max but hopefully and if not maybe someone else that needs this.

jethroguardian Mar 30, 2026 +4
Just did the same for me and my husband.  He's half European and half Hispanic, and I'm mostly European. We have a son named Max.  Soon as I read it knew we had to.

I’m not sure if I’m reading it right, but is there no use in doing it if you’re not both Caucasian and Latino?

twoeightnine Mar 30, 2026 +20
You can still be a match for someone else. And there's a slight chance you could be a match for him
20
HillarysFloppyChode Mar 30, 2026 +1
It’s linked to a national registry, so even if you aren’t his match, you could be a match for someone else.

I ordered a kit! Thanks for posting ❤️

I can’t register due to autoimmune disorder & previous cancer. I hope Max finds a match!

Aggravating-Salad441 Mar 30, 2026 +7
Why do I need to provide an alternative contact? Just let me test myself!
7
InternetName4 Mar 30, 2026 +20
You remain in the database after testing, so it's probably in case someone comes along later who matches you and they can't reach you for whatever reason. Presumably the contact can let them know if you're on an international vacation or quit the Internet or changed contact numbers or w/e
