We'll definitely be back next year. If not, it'll be because an asteroid has destroyed all human civilization. And that's canon.

I think im gonna have to go with the original. bugs Bunny.
Also Malcolm in the middle is iconic for this.
And idk if it really counts but Ron Howard talking shit on the narrator on the show within arrested development

Yeah I love that Malcolm is the only one to break it. And actually, in the new limited reboot they did, his daughter does too.

The Hot Priest being the only one to spot it is what really brings it all together and makes it one of the best uses of the fourth wall break.

It was absolutely addressed.

This was what I thought of too. I remember it lessened over the years and at some point wasn’t a thing anymore. But in those early seasons he would literally freeze time for fourth wall breaks lol

There's a fantastic scene in Northern Exposure where there is a particularly strange plot taking place.
It's getting towards the end of the episode, and it seems like the only way out is to have a shoot off between two main characters....and suddenly all of the characters on screen break the fourth wall.
It's hilarious, and was super unexpected.
If anyone hasn't seen that show, I definitely recommend it!

30 Rock had some great ones, like when they did an intentionally blatant product placement for Verizon and Tina fey turns to the camera afterwards and says ‘can we have our money now?’
Or when they’re talking about green week and she rolls her eyes and says ‘they’re not going to just do something useless like make their logo green, right?’ And then glances towards the bottom of the screen where the green nbc logo pops up.

Does Mr. Robot count? The viewer is sort of a character in the show to an extent, and Elliot talks directly to us most of the time. Mr. Robot does, too.
(Please avoid spoilers in your replies. Be cool, friends.)

His monologues were wild, especially when he'd just stop mid-scene to roast the whole situation. That show was underrated for how clever the writing got with those breaks

Moonlighting. Happened a lot, but my favorite is when the David and Maddie said the script was short so they had to burn time to fill the time s***. Another one was a fake fan mail cold intro.

Austin Powers movies
Mr. Roboto- “why don’t I just speak English?”
Austin- “That would be a good idea now wouldn’t it? That way I wouldn’t misread the subtitles making it seem like you’re saying something dirty, now wouldn’t it?”
Obviously there’s a lot more, but that one is what jumps to mind.

I wasn't aware that you were the sole arbiter of what counts as a storytelling technique. I'm sorry to have questioned you.
But I would point out that the cast is breaking the fourth wall for the documentary and the TV show simultaneously.

I intentionally fumbled the remote for a girl for She Hulk backing out to the Disney+ dashboard. It worked perfectly. I wish the girl didn't turn into a Nazi.
