I really doubt a nuke, only because it would 100% stop access to significant oil reserves for decades. However this is Trump and it's America so well thought out plans that consider consequences is a long shot. Shit, its going to be a nuke isn't it.

Probably! Though an Israeli nuke will be how they do it. Not even MAGA loyalist Dan Caine is suicidal enough to obey the order for a nuclear strike on the Middle East. End of the day, if the JCS vetoes it, it doesn't happen. At least, that's my hope.

Israel is too smart for that. It would destroy the bit of diplomacy they’ve managed with Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia. None of those want a nuclear arms race in their back yard. Israel is also smart enough to play Trump. They’ll promise him a solid gold peace prize in the shape of a mushroom cloud and he’ll pull the trigger.

Iranian reserves, maybe, but the western world has been living without those for nearly 50 years. It really just comes down to how badly Trump wants to be the guy to break the nuclear taboo. And I guarantee that Ukraine will be second country "glassed" in the immediate fallout of the first nuclear attack since WW2.

For every day the straights are preventing 20% of the world's oil supply from moving it will take 10 days to get shipping back to normal according to the professor at [https://www.youtube.com/@wgowshipping](https://www.youtube.com/@wgowshipping) so as we get close to 30 days we're already looking at 300 days of instability in the Persian Gulf oil supply... Meanwhile Iran is shipping out more oil through Hormuz than before the war and is in control of who gets to use the straights. The whole world economy is going to get hit super hard if cooler heads don't prevail and the ground war takes Iran's island in the Northeast Persian Gulf.

As far as I see it at this stage trump has one of three options Continue on with the current level stupidity which will cost the U.S. a lot of money and resources, and Israel will take the brunt of more missile attacks or call victory and let things return to a semblance of normalcy...though this may leave Israel and a couple of Arab nations holding the bag of trump's idiocy or go all in with boots on the ground which will probably mire the U.S. in a long term whack-a-mole war which will be left to the next President to deal with because "Winning the Hearts and Minds" of Iran is not going to happen overnight or even in a few years.

I'm far more concerned with the politicians who failed to stop him than I am the voters who fell for the grift. I understand the frustration, but yelling at voters for being dumb is like getting mad at water for being wet. We can actually do something about the politicians, and the fucked up systems that create such an ignorant electorate.

Let's be serious here. There is a threat of a small ground operation on an island. To launch a full ground invasion of the mainland would take 500,000+ troops and another six months to position. The island occupation is still significant, but let's not confuse the two.

It will start with 5000 troops on the island.  Some will die to rockets and missiles.  Trump will use this to drum up anger to sent a few thousand more to take the coast.  Some of these will die.  Trump will use this to justify taking the mountains above the coast.  Eventually we'll have 500k in Iran.  Ten years into our 3 day special military operation, we'll declare victory and retreat.

That is certainly the escalation trap. I'm just pointing out that we're a long way from that. The most likely is that Kharg is taken, Trump, Fox and MAGA celebrate this big punch in the face to Iran. Then they are under constant attack, some die, Trump gets scared and declares that mission over and they retreat and head to cuba. Trump sees his Presidency as a series of TV episodes. We can tell already that he liked the Iran episode but it's turning sour and he'd like to start airing the Cuba episode. His only problem is that it's been a strategic disaster so he needs to find a way to close it off enough that people for get about it (not gonna be easy!). Iran sees their regime as a eternal divine epic that has no end.
