I had wondered what they'd do with all the potential Slayers that became full Slayers from Willow's spell, seems like they weren't going to just kill them all off (a Slayer's life seems to be pretty short) to focus on the new girl which would have been good.

There was a comic series where Xander took on a leadership role as the new watcher and the slayers wound up facing the government or something. I vaguely remember reading an issue somewhere along the line.

In the season 8 comic, there were about 1500 slayers (that they'd counted) and most formed part of ten different squads around the world. They mention squads in Scotland, New York, Cleveland, Tokyo, Barcelona, Chicago, and Rome.

Presumably so. I checked and it's actually 1800 slayers that they'd counted, not 1500. Not all the slayers are in the Slayer Organization in Season 8 though, it's just the total number they've detected (presumably through using magic). Some girls they find don't want to join a squad, and some choose to go rogue and commit crimes with their newfound powers. I don't think they ever state how many of the 1800 joined the Organization, or how many slayers are in each squad. In the Scotland squad, there's certainly dozens shown in some panels. They also don't all live at their squad HQ, so e.g., in Tokyo, they might have 150 part of the squad but they'd be scattered throughout the wider Tokyo area.

I think that was part of the conundrum the show really faced. In a world full of slayers why is this one special?

TechInventor Mar 20, 2026 +14
Tbh, she doesn't really have to be special. She just needs to be interesting and have interesting things happen to her.

Seems pretty simple. New villain does a spell to undo that spell taking away their powers and leaving everywhere that’s used to being guarded vulnerable. They beat the villain but aren’t able to redo the spell

She is. The entire cast has already done a table read, and it will crowdfund soon.

How about a Eureka revival while we're at it?

I have mixed feeling about The Guild. Did I love it at the time? Yes. Did it make me feel represented? Yes. Did I rock out to Will You Date My Avatar? ...cringey to look back on now, but yes. But looking back it's just... *so* couched in a form "nerd identity" that permeated the "nerd culture entering the mainstream" circa 2008 that feels kind of gross now. There were a lot of underlying assumptions about what was desirable, marketable, and defensible (largely influenced by male gaze) that did *not* age well. Maybe those were just growing pains. Maybe we had to go through them to get to a better place. But The Guild sits firmly in the "I wouldn't discourage my children form watching this, but I *absolutely* would not intentionally introduce them to it" pile.

Unfortunately I find myself feeling very similarly about almost everything Felicia day is in. I don't know what it is about her but she firmly feels stuck in that awkward 00s nerd one-note archetype.

It's cringe because she's too old for this schtick

I think The Guild is a series that could have an opportunity to reflect back upon its original incarnation as an early low-budget web series many years later and how times have changed. I have to imagine it's going to do that in SOME form. I doubt it's going to go any places that are that self-critical or introspective, really, but you never know. It would be interesting if it did. Given Felicia Day's repertoire I wouldn't count on it though because she seems to be a very endlessly positive kind of person. But a show about The Kind Of People Who Are Still (Maybe) Playing WoW 20 Years Later is an interesting concept. The gender divide in video games and how it has changed in the interim is especially interesting (in the mid-2000s like 80% of gamers were male, now it's about 50/50 and women are actually slightly more likely to play video games than men).

She's planning on it. There will be a crowdfunding campaign in the summer for it.

>Day, who is currently touring behind her first graphic novel, The Lost Daughter of Sparta, wasn’t officially part of the cast of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale reboot, but says people behind the show had approached her to gauge her interest in reprising Vi. >“I spoke to the showrunners briefly at a party right after they shot the pilot, and they expressed a hope that everyone from the original cast would return at some point, and asked about my interest,” she says. “And of course I jumped on it.” >“Buffy was my first real TV job, and that experience gave me hope that actors like me who weren't 100% mainstream could actually have a career in Hollywood,” Day says. “It was where I formed friendships that last to this day. It truly influenced my whole career. To have a project that was championed by so many people who loved the characters and story snuffed out is truly sad for fans and creators.” >“The reason I am a public geek now is because of my time on Buffy,” she says. “I'm still friends with many people in the cast. I found a place in Hollywood that felt like I was home, and I would not trade that relationship for the world.” In other Felicia Day news: [She will crowdfund a movie spinoff of The Guild this summer.](https://www.polygon.com/felicia-day-guild-movie-kickstarter/)

Well that’s good. It’s petty but I haven’t liked her since she tried out GTA Roleplay playing on the No Pixel server. She didn’t like it, which is fine, but complained about people playing characters that don’t align with their race or gender which caused a lot of her fans to go after some role players who just didn’t want to deal with it and stopped playing. It’s roleplay. You can be anyone or anything. That’s the point of it.

With every headline, I'm more glad that it was cancelled.

Premislaus Mar 21, 2026 +3
You're glad it was cancelled because they considered bringing a side character back?

She's always the worst part of everything she's in. It's uncanny.

GoldenLink Mar 20, 2026 +6
I hate that you're getting so heavily down voted about this because I generally agree with you. It feels like she never really knew how to be anything than this one awkward nerdy girl type, and I think it almost does her a disservice in that way. Like as much as I love mst3k she is by far the worst part of the rebooted seasons, because it just feels like she is Felicia day pretending to be a boss, she never ever slips into her roles. It's always blatantly "Felicia day pretends to be X"

RomulanTreachery Mar 21, 2026 -1
It's okay, they heavily downvoted Jesus as well. But in seriousness, she got famous doing one specific thing and parlayed that into the career she's had without actually having to improve her craft in any way. We should all be so lucky. And yeah, I really liked the new MST3K as well... Except for her.

She gets a massive amount of traction from being a well-known nerd. But everything with her name on it has been mid at best.

I had the BIGGEST crush on her in Buffy. Between her, Clarissa from Clarissa explains it all, and Wynona Rider in well, everything in the early to mid 90s... y'know there really were a lot of solid women roles and actresses in that era that weren't just sexpots or tokenism, even though I still had massive crushes. edit: lol guess I wasnt allowed to have celebrity crushes as a young pre-teen/teen?

I want a Deadpool style leak tbh. Let it stand on its own and let the fans decide.

GrimmTrixX Mar 20, 2026 +3
Not enough billionaires are bringing back great things. If I had a billion dollars, do you know how many show reboots, video game collections, video game reboots/remakes/remasters there would be? Sooo many.
3
Accomplished-City484 Mar 21, 2026 +1
Even if you had a billion dollars you’d only be able to bring back 1 show for 5 8 episode seasons and it would take 10 years

Jfc how much astroturfing can one show do? Shut up already
-15
Wischiwaschbaer Mar 20, 2026 +5
It's dead though. I think this is one of the rare cases on /r/television that isn't AstroTurf.
5
DaveShadow Mar 20, 2026 +9
Is it astroturfing? Buffy meant a LOT to a lot of people growing up, so it shouldn't shock people to find there's intense chatter at the drama around it's revival and cancelation. And, if it really bothers you...just don't click into the thread? If you don't want to talk about it, it's super easy to just scroll on past it.
