Vivi's story was my favorite part of that game, so I am looking forward to this.

Vivi’s story is such an intimate exploration of the bigger existential themes of the series. I don’t think they’ve ever managed to condense it to such a singular experience.
I’m optimistic for this series…
For Vivi.

Is it weird that Vivi's obnoxious MTG card has made me dislike him? And Kuja being more fun and less OP has endeared the character to me as well.

Yes it's weird. It's not his fault.

Yes, he has the best storyline in the game, and one of the best in the whole franchise

A sequel rather than an adaptation of the game's story is certainly a surprise. I guess you'd need multiple seasons to tell the story well.

If this leads to a game adaptation where, based on the description of the show, it's a coop adventure game with the madness of Overcooked, I am down.

It feels like a lot of games are finishing off their story arcs with TV shows. Fallout, FFIX, Baldur’s Gate, probably some more I’ve forgotten. I don’t know if that’s because TV is a more versatile medium, or for some other reason. But I bet that’s going to be a lot more common in future.

> The series is a licensed affair, approved by Square Enix but without the game maker's direct involvement.
> It has previously been described as being aimed at children aged between six and thirteen years old,
> Takes place after the events of the game, following a group of Black Mages
Yea I’m keeping my expectations to non-existent. Will check this out though but the fact it’s aimed at children doesn’t sit right with me considering the heavy mature themes the game explored, especially in its handling of the black mages.

That checks out to me, the original game seemed to be targeting roughly the same age group.

My eight year old loves the story of Vivi, and the darker aspects of the story invite a lot of conversation of topics that normally she wouldn't be exposed to through your standard kids fare.
Can't wait to see what comes out of this.

Making a kids show about beings who were built to die young and spend their entire existence wondering if they're really alive is certainly a choice for the six-to-thirteen demographic.

I played FFIX when I was around 10-12.
Children can take a lot, just not trauma. Mature themes can and should be presented in a healthy way, not just kept away from their sheltered minds.

LeeroyTCMar 18, 2026

I mean the themes of FFIX resonated well with 10-year-olds back in 1999. I don't see why the current batch of kids would struggle to appreciate content with the same themes.

I need an animated adaption of FFIV. You could easily get at least three seasons and there's a lot of emotional moments. Tellah, the lead up to the final battle, Edward and Anna. Make it so.

There have been rumors about a FFIX remake for years since the Nvidia leak. And most of the unannounced stuff that leaked from it did end up true and releasing over the years.
However, it sounds like FFIX's remake either ended up scrapped or restarted. They probably intended for the game remake to release before or close to this anime sequel to drum up interest. The fact that this anime is still happening makes me think they still intend to put the game out at some point, but it's certainly not a requirement.

This sounds awesome, but just found this bit funny in the article:
> and it will feature 10 episodes of 22 minutes each - a slight reduction from the previously-reported 13-episode count
23% hardly qualifies as slight... If you were making $50k a year and then received a *slight* reduction to $38.5k, you'd probably not be thrilled 😄.

Both can be done, it's not an either/or situation. Most shows are originals (or not based on a game) and then the rare one based on a game for those fans.

No idea why this is a downvoted comment. Only bit is that it cant be remastered really because the original code was lost or something. SquareEnix absolutely has the ability to completely rebuild the game now tho and unsure why they dont. Literally the best title in the entire franchise. Yep, better than FF7.
