I’ve come to the conclusion that tv production on CBS is purely meant to keep the lights on until football season

Obviously Survivor is still going to be on the air

Yes because Survivor still manages to pull in great ratings - and does even better on streaming. Game shows - and Survivor is a glorified game show - tend to be good bets because the premise is familiar but the new contestants offer variety. It both the 18-25 and 25-52 demos, which - as far as networks are concerned - are the only demos that matter.

On Friday, CBS announced the cancellation of “[Watson](https://www.cbs.com/shows/watson/?searchReferral=desktop-web&source=google-organic&ftag=PPM-23-10bfh8c)” after two seasons and “[DMV](https://www.cbs.com/shows/dmv/?searchReferral=desktop-web&source=google-organic&ftag=PPM-23-10bfh8c)” following its only season.
The two shows are scheduled to air their season finales on May 3 and 11, according to [The Hollywood Reporter](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/cbs-cancels-watson-dmv-1236549115/).
The cancellations were announced ahead of the network’s 2026-2027 schedule reveal on April 15.

Completely forgot DMV was a show. They marketed it for like a week then never heard of it again

Is it just me or has anyone else not watched a show on broadcast TV in like 15+ years?

The wife and I watch a few, but we do it on Plex. I don't know a single person who has *cable* in their home besides my MIL and FIL and they just watch Fox News and movies on DVD at night. They're too old to change and/or use internet apps.

My husband likes European football. He has looked at all the apps and all the ways to watch, and he has found nothing that allows him to cut cable.
Some of the teams/series that he enjoys are only on cable Spanish language tv.
He doesn’t speak Spanish, but he still watches the games.

I watch a ton of European football and cut cable. At least in the US it's on Peacock for the Premier League and Paramount for the Champions League.

Ah, the two streaming services we don’t have.
Honestly, we have such a basic cable for this, that it’s cheaper than subscribing to new services. But thanks for the information. It might just come to that someday.

I’m 27 and most people I know don’t watch any broadcast outside of sports. If they do it’s bachelor or survivor or another competition show.

I watch some classic sitcoms and that's it. I don't have cable and current network shows are formulaic and low effort.

It's not just you. Most folks I know, myself included, keep up with any broadcast network show they enjoy via streaming. I don't personally know anyone with cable or satellite outside of my parents/grandparents and friends parents/etc.

They canceled Poppas House with Damon Wayans the previous year which was actually a funny show with solid ratings, for DMV which gets axed after one year. Should have just kept Poppas House.

So, they canceled the shows with black leads. Figures.

6 of 13 primetime hours on CBS are dedicated to scripted shows have black leads or co-leads. CBS made a decision several years ago to be the major network that appeals to black viewers (and white working class suburban / rural). Question is whether Ellisons will pivot from that. I'm guessing yes.

Are you assuming it was a race thing or did the ratings just suck?

Watson was terrible, there's no surprise it got cancelled.

Watson was watched by 6 people, 4 of them are elderly.
DMV barely had a black lead. Tim didn't really seem like a lead. I feel like the girl was more-so the main character with Tim and the guy from Rightous Gemstones as supporting.
Do you have any evidence the choice was made by race? Or just talking out of your starfish?

The term “fan-favorite” in this headline confuses me here; if these shows were fan-favorites, they wouldn’t be getting cancelled after one or two seasons. I’m starting to worry that the internet is filled with terrible writing.

I’ve a feeling that CBS could move Elsbeth to 8 PM on Mondays if CBS wanna expands thursdays comedies block for only 3 shows this fall…

maddietendoApr 6, 2026
DMV wasn't the worst thing I've ever watched. The show was probably c**** as hell to make based on the one single set they needed and the cast... and CBS still killed it. It must have been watched by like 4 people.

I like a lot of CBS shows. I got through about 1 1/3 shows and noped out. It just wasn’t good.

Yeah. I watched 2 or 3 of DMV and kind of knew that show was a goner even though I didn't find it offensively bad.
Not much else landed with me from CBS this year.
I think the only thing we still watch is George and Mandy and that's only because we're so invested since we we watched TBBT and Young Sheldon to completion, but even G&M is getting a little tiring at this point.

The point isnt “what is canceled.” But the whole channel will be done with. Just like multibillion dollar mergers, companies like this just end up being put out to pasture….. the most highest rated channel, the “Tiffany network,” the home for sports, trusted news and more average American targeted shows.
