They’re releasing a making-of eight months BEFORE the premiere?

It actually used to be a lot more common for studios to promote projects this way. Maybe not a whole 8 months before, but theres such a wide interest in this show, I think they basically operate on whatever timeline they feel like.

They're gonna exhaust people before the thing is even out at this rate.

FlowersByTheStreet Apr 2, 2026 -2
They already have with me and my circle

RAIZEN17982196 Apr 3, 2026
the story is already told in 8 movies and 7 books but it seems you forgot that info

Yall are mean. Im excited for this show! Harry Potter would definitely benefit from being a tv show.

GrubHanser Apr 2, 2026 +1
Gonna be funny when this show omits and changes a bunch of nonsense from the books as well.

JamStan1978 Apr 2, 2026 +2
They wont change anything big they dont have to. Even the small details are pretty accurate from the stuff we have seen.

nova_crystallis Apr 2, 2026 -1
They've already said there's going to be a lot that isn't even in the book, so yeah.

notthatbluestuff Apr 2, 2026 +8
You can read the book in a single afternoon, so yeah - of course they're going to add stuff to fill eight episodes.

DaKingaDaNorth Apr 2, 2026 +3
Maybe the first 2. But the latter books get pretty long

Even the shortest audiobook is 8 hours. And supposedly they'll be working in more of the "adults'" storyline in from the beginning so that season 5 isn't an out of nowhere lore dump like the book was.

All the best to these kids, but this whole project seems like such a nothingburger when the film series is just as beloved now as it ever was. There's no need to remake it again. F*** JK Rowling.

Nah, the films are FAR from a perfect adaptation, I think anyone who's read the books would tell you that. And the main reason why is because each book needed to be squeezed into movie length. Entire plotlines cut-out, character relationships rushed and/or butchered, and the addition of scenes that contribute nothing at all besides the screenwriter thinking 'hm, we haven't had any action in a while'. Personally I'm quite excited for the possibility of a full adaptation that's able to take its time to pace and explore everything propperly. If this will be that, I don't know. But I'm definitely gonna give it a shot. But also, yes, f*** JK. Wish I could pretend my non-support of her was some sort of activism, but I pirate everything I watch regardless.

notthatbluestuff Apr 2, 2026 +18
No need, unless you're a book fan who wants a more faithful adaptation.
18
DaKingaDaNorth Apr 2, 2026 +18
You'll get downvoted for this because it's in vogue to pretend the quality of the film adaptations weren't heavily criticized by the book fandom since the films came out.

Yeah it used to be commonly accepted that the movies cut out huge amounts of good stuff and that a TV show would be a much preferable format for an adaptation

Most people moved on with their lives. The movies made a much better version of Order of the Phoenix.

Battle of the Ministry in the movie was super lacking compared to the book

as a person who I think is pretty normal about harry potter, I loved the books as a kid and didn't care that much about but did still see all the movies. I tell myself I'll check this out when it comes out if I still have an active hbo max subscription and it's well reviewed, which will result in me adding it to My List and then never watching it just like almost everything else

We'll see how it turns out, but being more faithful doesn't always mean it'll be better. Look at The Shining. Great movie, not the best adaptation. Then years later it as adapted more faithfully... with worse direction, acting, and production value.

notthatbluestuff Apr 2, 2026 +7
We'll never know until they try. Plenty of stories are adapted over and over again, not sure why fans of the Harry Potter movies can't accept this one.

DaKingaDaNorth Apr 2, 2026 +4
The difference with the Shining is that they were effectively two different stories and the more faithful one had the less talented filmmakers. Shouldn't be hard for someone at HBO to surpass David Yates

Cope. A lot of people are interest to see how they adapt the books with a full season each. The franchise still prints money world-wide. This is going to do crazy numbers.

DaKingaDaNorth Apr 2, 2026 +12
If only the film series was good and did the books justice

FlowersByTheStreet Apr 2, 2026 -6
Bait used to be believable

DaKingaDaNorth Apr 2, 2026 +2
You clearly don't know much about the fandom then lol. Or never read the books.
2
FlowersByTheStreet Apr 2, 2026 +1
lol I read them as they were coming out. Pretending like the movies aren't beloved is just stupid
1
Sonichu- Apr 2, 2026 +6
The movies are beloved but they left out a ton of good material.
6
DaKingaDaNorth Apr 2, 2026 +6
Then you would know basic things like them f****** up the ending, gutting half of Voldemort's origin, making the longest and most character rich book the shortest film, ripping Goblet of Fire to shreds. All the criticism of Yates and how tonally bland his work was. Really I can get on with the idea that first 3 films were near perfect adaptations. But that series fell off once it got to the meat of the plot
6
FlowersByTheStreet Apr 2, 2026 +1
The ending f****** sucked in the books. It was widely mocked and even somewhat of a meme at the time that page whatever-it-was was "epic" and then it's just "Harry won :)" There are differences, yeah, but the books aren't exactly literary masterpieces in a technical sense. I would say that for the most part the changes were necessary and fine. And again, pretending this movie series isn't widely beloved is just stupid.

Isiddiqui Apr 2, 2026 +5
>It was widely mocked Wtf? No it wasn't.
5
DaKingaDaNorth Apr 2, 2026 +7
This isn't true. The ending was perfectly built up meticulously. It wasn't mocked. It thematically captured all the themes of the story and motivations of the central characters in a Western style stand off. It was systematic destruction of the main villain and his deals. I'm glad you enjoyed the Dragon Ball Z beam fight the film gave

FlowersByTheStreet Apr 2, 2026 +3
Well, I was there when the book dropped so... not sure what fantasy land you're living in. Have fun with your sorting hat I guess
3
DaKingaDaNorth Apr 2, 2026 +4
Bro I used to go to the midnight premiers for the books. You aren't special lol
4
GaryTheCabalGuy Apr 2, 2026 +5
The films are basically a speed run of the story. There is a lot of value to a TV series, regardless of whether or not the listnook echo chamber agrees

Wake up babe, new money printer just dropped
