I love this site but the knee-jerk immediate need to make jokes is what has really killed it for me over the years. It wasn't like that on Listnook originally for a long time. It kills a lot of potential good discussion. Sad

You ain’t wrong. It’s like the same 10 recycled jokes and they come so goddamn fast there’s no time to even take in the subject. Just ding dongs looking to get that zinger in before anyone else.

I like to guess if the top comment will be either “the front fell off”, “can’t park there mate”, or “to shreds you say?” Sometimes it’s even two of these! Honorable mention is the Simpsons joke about the aurora in principal skinner’s kitchen.

It's not really the comments, but the upvotes which drive what you see.
Unfortunately the same 10 jokes are just what make it to the top. For every stupid joke there's probably 10 well written comments that got buried.

I got -60 yesterday in trees for pointing out the joke made about stripping away our right wasn’t even accurate to the situation.
Article was about inhalable thc being banned, jokes about “well I vape and don’t smoke” as if the law mentioned combustion whatsoever. Nope just the headline.
These are the same people who never read articles. Just rush to make jokes based off the headline for bottom of the barrel easy karma.

"Totally. But are these same 8 jokes really _that_ bad?"
"That's a good point. We really don't _need_ more than 7 repeating jokes over and over"...
I can't f****** STAND this one, so unfunny and unoriginal and by far my least favorite. And it WILL show up in any thread about drugs or money, without question.

And then when you call it out you get one of two responses:
1) “It was a joke, sorry I didn’t think I would need to add an /s”
2) “I remember when people didn’t get so offended on here!”
In response to 1, no, you’re an a****** that thinks making “jokes” at someone’s expense is okay.
And response to 2, I remember when Listnook wasn’t full of assholes saying stupid shit to be offended about.

Because people want the upvotes associated with the "clever comment". I'm seeing an uptick of "AI?" comments as well, these tend to be received well by the hordes.
Listnook used to be a site where informative and relevant comments to the post were upvoted. It used to be a place where comments took work, hence the "editor" part of "listnookor". Now, no longer, just facsimile of its once honorable origins.
Is it due to an influx of a new generation of listnookors who do not understand the site's humble origins? Perhaps those who've come from inferior sites like Tumblr, or Facebook? Or has listnook itself incentivized low-effort comments and jokes? Either way, we are witnessing the slow death of the last frontier of what used to be the golden age of internet, eating itself like a collapsing star.

>It wasn't like that on Listnook originally for a long time.
I mean, it's gotten more widespread just due to there being more people on the platform now, but the "GOTTA BE QUIPPY" thing has been a mainstay of Listnook for as long as I've been on here, it's baked into the millennial brain. people who go through with these attacks just aren’t rational period. the guy who murdered john lennon had tickets lined up for elton john in case he couldn’t get lennon because he didn’t care who had to die to feed into his untreated mental illness

He had a whole long list of people that he wanted to kill. Lennon was very easily approachable, and always took time to sign autographs for his fans and chat with them outside of the Dakota. My dad got John's autograph outside of the Dakota in 1979. He signed a copy of his book "In His Own Write." He still has it.

Years ago, I got a copy of a signed photo from by a guy who got a signature from Lennon that could very well have been on the day he was shot. He certainly looks like a 1980s Lennon and he had that leather jacket with the fur collar on. No Mark David Chapman in it, though.

This doesnt make sense. You got a copy of a signed photo... from by a guy (?)... So the photo is of Lennon but it is signed by the guy who took the photo? But then the signature from lennon is where? On a piece of paper?

It's not a *good* reason. I want to clarify this.
But, he's a highly famous musician. Rumors is one of the most successful albums of all time, he sang and performed some of the most iconic songs of the century, and then had a very public, nasty breakup with the band due to his personality conflicts and drug use.
People blamed him for the breakup of Fleetwood Mac. Twice.
He's famous, polarizing, and blamed for the fallout.
Additionally, he might just be picked because they're obsessive crazy people and he's a public figure. Mentally ill people think famous songs were written for them all the time.
So, likely mental illness with public figure who is either the object of their obsession or taking the blame for multiple breakups of Fleetwood Mac.

He is the least liked 'popular' member. Not defending those picking on him. My point being, is people have small minds and their courage comes out via anonymity. The band's most hated member is >!Jeremy Spencer.!<

Yeah. Jeremy went to that same LSD party in Germany at that castle that permanently messed up Peter Green as well. Unfortunately Jeremy got caught up with the Children of God cult, and was never the same since.
Edit- apparently Danny Kirwan went to the same ill fated party and was never the same since. Something tells me what they did that night wasnt LSD, or maybe it was some sort of dosed version of it?

I would imagine if they got some of the substance off of them they could test it to find out what the hell it was. Also if she was known to him they could possibly make it a little harder for her to get tickets if they just blocked her credit cards and whatnot whenever she tried to buy tickets in future. Granted she could probably just convince somebody else to buy them for her but if they knew her I knew she was a nut job then maybe they wouldn't. I'm not trying to condone that Fleer shit but if they've got it this is a great way to use it you know to keep people like her from going to shows.
Edit: Oh shit I just noticed this wasn't at a show but just out in public. I wonder if she found out where he was going to be because of something like a Twitter post or those vultures from that magazine or whatever it is now that fell as celebrities TMZ I think.
