hi! I’m having a dune themed birthday party/watch party with some of my friends who have never seen dune. I really want to prepare them for dune part three coming out in December. I honestly am stumped right now as to what to do when it comes to dishes/snacks. I obviously want to have some dishes that are spicy but other than that I’m pretty basic when it comes to cooking. Any ideas are good ideas i am pretty much open to anything. (two of my friends are vegan and I’m vegetarian so just keep that in mind, thanks!)
I feel like your best bet is to just get whatever food you want and lazily force it into a Dune pun. Like Pizza Al-Gaib or Pie Hulud

Spice cupcakes topped with cinnamon sugar and a gummy worm.
I did a Bob's Burgers of the day called Beer 'n' Hark Onion burger. It's beer boiled onions on a burger. I also made brats and cut the ends so they curled out a bit when grilled to look like worm mouths.

Fry the onions in a little butter before adding the beer to boil. Then boil the brats in that before cutting and grilling to get a little char and the ends to curl out.

I'd prolly do stuffed dates as an appetizer. Take some walnuts and candy them (toss in this syrup and roast slowly in a 300 degree oven) with a hot mixture of honey, cinnamon (MELANGE), butter, and optionally some cayenne or chili powder. Take them out and let them cool. Then blitz until coarsely chopped in a food processor and add goat cheese or cream cheese. Stuff dates with this mixture and optionally wrap with prosciutto.

A few ideas, mostly dessert focused:
I think a blue colored mixed drink is good for a starter for the opening scenes in Caladan
Indian Gulab Jamun for the Gom Jabbar scene? They sound sort of similar.
Maybe brownies/a cookies and cream dish for Giedi Prime due to the dark/monochrome vibes?
Baklava for when they arrive on Arrakis?

You need food *and drinks*!
Dune does not pair well with food. Spice, puns, sand. Ok sure. You want aristocratic food. It doesn't have to be fancy but should feel fancy. Something on the end of a toothpick. Served on a tray like you would serve the head of a great house or imperial guest. Shawarma sliced, hummus or charcuterie. A curated yet selected offering like a fremen might slap together. Salty, savory, not something you eat every day.
Then you could do the "Water of Life" with any number of blue drinks. From koolaid to alcoholic concoctions. Do a couple neon colors, get some unique bottles from the flea market, put something in a bucket of ice for the contrast.

potatoes trimmed to uniform girth thickness, then spiral cut (plenty of sub $10 options on amazon for a cutter) and shaped into a segmented worm body. follow the concept of Hasselback potatoes, where you're brushing the potatoes with a garlic butter glaze to get a deep golden color. From there you can tap into your inner creative and get as realistic as you want with your glazes and any "teeth".

People already covered the snacks/food so I'll just recommend a pitcher of ice water that can sit and condensate on the table.
Those movies will make you appreciate some ice water.

It's not middle eastern at all but try looking for jollof rice. It can be mildly/notably spicy and has an orange color to it. It's similar to Spanish rice
Idk abt cocktails much but you could consider something with cinnamon as the "spice" with the drink.
Maybe have chips and "mua'dip"

Craft some dragon fly copters with veggies and toothpicks ( carrot stick wings, celery body) for an appetizer, with a spicy hummus dip.
I’m not vegan or vegetarian and I have a hard time coming up with food ideas for myself, so that’s all I got, lol. Happy Birthday!
Gummy worms in cinnamon sugar.
As the culture on Dune is obviously Middle Eastern coded. Hummus with falafels can be Vegan. Falafel pita sandwich with vegan tzatziki.
Squid ink pasta with a soft cheese like riccotta or burrata. To represent House Harkonnen.
Something French to represent Timothee heritage. French fries could represent his American and French side.
Tbh it doesn't really matter. As another poster said you could really make anything and it could fly. It's a fictional world where we don't really see them eat. So anything could be from their planets.

Put some surprises in the cinnamon. Like long sausages.
Add a huge container of water and tell everyone it is not to be touched. That water is sacred.

The IMAX where I lived had “spice” for a popcorn topping when they had Dune Part 2 playing. It was a mixture of sugar and cinnamon and it was so good.
