We'd need one more tangent to get to our timeline.
Baldwin goes back to 1969 to sabotage their space program and the timeline changes to what we used to know.
The Russians find out about it and then time travel to 2016 and get their payback by giving us Trump.
NOW we have our timeline.

Tbf, they didn't get rid of the showrunner, Goyer stepped back from that position, but has remained involved with the show as an executive producer. It seems there was some clashes with Skydance over budgetary concerns, which is a little concerning, but as long as the creative team is much the same, there isn't any major worries I don't think.

Ed's brain enters a blackhole where he ends up lost in spacetime. Warped by strange and unknown forces, he gains abilities on a distant waterworld... abilities he uses to explore and colonize the cosmos with ever more advanced technology. He becomes a hive mind where every piece of his now galaxy-spanning network is imbued with a tiny piece of his consciousness. And onward he continues to spread himself... ever searching... even during the war with the unknown entity he searches... until at last... he realizes... that black hole had taken him billions of years back in time. Yet there is still a chance. So he sends a tool--a piece of himself--flying through space towards his long lost home that has yet to be born.
Ed is the protomolecule.

I wonder if the show will end with another time jump like every season or if they'll give it a definitive ending in the present.
For me one of the best parts of the show are those final moments of the season where you see how far humanity have gone. I wouldn't mind at all if the show ends with the characters in the present followed by a final scene after a time jump of humanity making first contact, or going out beyond the solar system in search of it.

I bet they'll reach an extraterrestrial planet to start a new colony. A generation ship would just be believable enough to achieve it.
I'm a bit skeptical about aliens, probably that would give more questions than answers (especially if it is just a visual to show how far humans can get and not a fleshed out alien civilization) and an unfinished ending feeling.

I imagine the show ends with humanity planning to go on or going on an interstellar mission, either a generation ship or a ship that can travel at a reasonable speed of light (25%+?). I wonder if they’ve sent any interstellar probes by this point, or if they will send one that can send information that will reach us by the last season due to the 4 years it takes for data to be sent from Proxima Centauri.
They’ve already invented fusion. If they aren’t starting the process of making antimatter for fuel at this point idk what they’re doing.
Or they start building a Dyson Swarm for shits and giggles. Not that they need it any time soon thanks to fusion.

The premise that we could have avoided climate change, been on Mars in the early 90s, and been working towards that solarpunk future that I thought was possible when I was a kid fills me with a warm nostalgia for those days and then gives me a sense of dread at our current state.

To be fair, the show kind of handwaves this, but most of their problems are fixed because they crack fusion offscreen in the 1980s. Dev Ayesa is a billionaire in the show because he did that.

The whole Danny and Karen storyline was a mistake. Danny was just insufferable

You literally watched the best episode of the series. Season 2 is peak

The worst storyline of S2 becoming a major component part of S3 was BRUTAL. Hated every moment of it and felt like it really detracted from what made me love the show in the first place.

Hate when shows get that soap opera-y

Yeah, it's an issue. But you still have some truly incredible moments ahead (I'm partial to episodes 3, 4, and 10 from season 3).

I dropped it after the 3rd season I think. First was great, 2nd was good, 3rd was terrible, I doubt I'll go back.

I personally thought S2 was better than S1, but S3-5 has been at the same level of decent/good punctuated by brief moments of greatness.

S3 when they >!open the surprise solar sail to beat Helios!< is so dope.

I was thinking the same thing tbh, but i think ill stick it out to the end. Hell, if i can go through all of supernatural this cant be that bad xD

for me the show started going downhill with the love affair between >!the babysitter and the (grown up) "baby"!<. and then i fell off my couch when they projectile launched the >!pregnant woman like a missile from mars to save her and her baby!<.

I loved the first few seasons but I tapped somewhere in season 4 I think.
I gotta say though, 6 seasons (and a spinoff) of this is quite a feat

You should finish 4, the story gets pretty darn good near the end

Ed gon give it to ya.
This show has the best needle drops btw. Margot waking up in Moscow to Radiohead and that Tears for Fears one from s1 are some other good ones.

The Nirvana drop at the end of S2 is still my favorite. It’s probably because the whole peak of the show was Season 2 finale

You just gotta power through the incredibly unnecessary and unbelievable >!"wife cheating with son's best friend"!< storyline. Everything else is so good!

I remember the duct tape space walk pushed it for me. The consequences of the walk saved it though. I think it was the next season when we strapped a pregnant woman to the end of a rocket and tossed her into low orbit for extraction. That killed it for me. I watched a bit more after that and just couldn't.
Fwiw those first seasons really had me. I highly recommend the show, just don't be afraid to punch out when they jump the shark for you (wherever it may be)

I hope the new seasons will get better and finish strong. I loved the first season, but my love for the show has waned as the series has gone on. I didn’t particularly enjoy the fourth season. It wasn’t terrible, but I had a hard time getting invested in the story.

I just started watching this and at this point it's a well grounded and realistic alternate history show set in the '60s.
Reading some of these comments is a trip...

Don't worry too much about it. There's a certain thing that happens and people treat it like it was the "worst thing that was ever written for television ever™"!
It would be like if every time someone brought up Breaking Bad every single comment was about Marie's shoplifting. Yeah, it wasn't the best decsision but it does have a payoff and doesn't kill the show, imho.

Mixed bag.
I love the space stuff. The alternate history is fun. Some of the drama is silly.

Honestly I would have been happy with a 2069 end date, the idea we get to see this world for 100 years feels good. By season 3 it already felt like it was moving beyond scope a bit with how close they were to our own time.

Imagen you always send letters and someone invents the radio, but as soon as he turns it on he can hear all the other people broadcasting.
one of the fermi paradox solutions is that basically theres tons of aliens transmitting around us, our physics hasnt allowed us yet to reach the medium they transmit on.

Havent watched a single episode but its really cool the show has done these time skips from 60s to 2020s. Also lol is Kinnaman's character going to be around still? That would be cool.

We've stopped watching this show 2 or 3 times.
It was must watch for 2 seasons. Then it just more and more ridiculous, but I still like all the characters. Just can't care about the overall story enough to keep watching.
Last we watched the Russian dude got killed.

There's this 'Star City' spin off coming, too
If that does well I'd not be surprised to see another spin off
