The problem with the Bachelor/Bachelorette is that in today’s reality TV dating world, the shows are just so much better than The Bachelor/Bachelorette would ever be. No one wants to sit and watch as some random person chooses between 32 other people. Not when you have shows like Love is Blind and Love Island that are just far more entertaining.  TFP was brought on as a way to generate interest on a dying brand, and it got canceled before it even began. If the show’s not dead, it’s been given its last rites. Would have to take a miracle and complete reinvention for the show to survive.

It’s no M*** Island.

Oh yeah, Love is Blind is so much better I've never gone back. I think Bachelor in Paradise could still have some potential but not the Bachelor/Bachelorette
30
NotaFrenchMaid Mar 21, 2026 +25
I spent an evening overhearing two Bachelor in Paradise contestants at a bar last year. They had zero filter and laid everything out — who won, who fought, etc. The entire thing is so manufactured it was incredible.
25
bryan49 Mar 21, 2026 +8
Yeah that's true. I'm just saying it's a better watch than Bachelor / Bachelorette
8

That's a low bar.

Love Island is a far superior version of Bachelor in Paradise I think. But I agree it still has potential for good trash television.

bilyl Mar 21, 2026 +13
The entire concept is super dated, just like how American Idol eventually was cancelled

> No one wants to sit and watch as some random person chooses between 32 other people. Not when you have shows like Love is Blind and Love Island that are just far more entertaining.  I think people do , I think there’s just a fundamental misunderstanding of the Bachelor’s fanbase that ABC/the producers seem to be making. The fans who are super into it aren’t idiots, they know it’s fake and what not but they still want the pomp and circumstance of a more “prestigious” or “earnest” Love is Blind. Like it’s built up as a romantic movie or novel. The Bachelor comes riding in on horseback, the Bachelorette descends the stairs in a beautiful gown. That’s what the fanbase wants, the pretend factor of it included. I think recently they’ve tried harder to shift to a trashier thing, more arguments, a shoving match here or there (which is overdoing it for this franchise) and crazy twists. I don’t think you actually need any of that stuff to keep the core fanbase happy. The cliches, the boring stuff, they like that. And the further they get away from it, the more people they lose in an attempt to be more interesting.

19
adventuretogo Mar 21, 2026 +11
Like this is exactly what the bachelor nation is invested in hearing about!
11
2580374 Mar 21, 2026 +6
It's definitely not lol. These companies love the drama and things that get them views, as long as it can't be proved. Since there is a video this season will never see the light of day
6
alcabazar Mar 21, 2026 +1
The House of Mouse may love ratings but they're allergic to legal action. Technically the prize was a chance to date Taylor but she was in an intimate relationship up until this February which opens them up to a claim of fraud, and her history of domestic violence was already on film in a different Disney show which opens them up to liability and endangerment. The fun stops when a production could potentially drag Mickey out to court.
1
DistortedAudio Mar 21, 2026 +1
I’d be surprised honestly, the Bachelor’s core fanbase is pretty chaste and conservative all things considered. I think people see reality TV and immediately think “oh they love the scandal” and they do to a degree, but not this far in.

I looked into it and I think they were talking about this poor woman: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Jasmine_Fiore It resulted in “Megan Wants a Millionaire” being cancelled and “I Love Money” having an unaired 3rd season that would have featured the murderer of Jasmine Fiore though I Love Money went on to have a 4th and final season.

9
SandoVillain Mar 21, 2026 +2
It's the classic corporate move of alienating your fans to attract some hypothetical broader audience that isn't really there. And the bachelor fans that also watch the newer reality shows don't want the two to mix
2

1
Underwater_Karma Mar 21, 2026 +424
I honestly don't understand the big deal. It's garbage TV, about garbage people doing garbage things. I don't see why THIS was the step too far for the franchise to survive.
424
filthysize Mar 21, 2026 +217
It's garbage TV, yes, but "garbage people doing garbage things" is not at all what the show presents itself to be. It's a Disney produced show that actually tries to put on a lot of airs to sell itself as a Disneyfied love story, where the bachelors and bachelorettes are basically presented like prince and princesses. If there's one reality franchise that would be harmed by a trashy scandal, this one is probably it.
217
Joshdabozz Mar 21, 2026 +100
I was bored the other day and did the math for how many couples are still together that started on any Bachelor show in the US, and the numbers are astonishing low 5/29 Bachelor couples are still together 3/21 bachelorette couples are still together 1/3 bachelor pad couples are still together 12/40 bachelor in paradise couples are still together The only The Bachelor Presents: Listen to Your Heart couple is no longer together 0/2 Golden Bachelor couples are still together 21/96 bachelor couples are still together in total That’s 22% (when rounding) of the couple I’m shocked there aren’t many high profile scandals for this show with how low the rate is
100
SmallTimeGoals Mar 21, 2026 +122
Mm, those numbers don’t seem that bad at all given everything is artificial. The average relationship has a 70% chance of failing within the first year.
122
floridorito Mar 21, 2026 +85
I thought the percentage was close to 0, so I'm astonished it's had that kind of success, frankly.
85
Joshdabozz Mar 21, 2026 +28
I feel like Bachelor in Paradise is doing the heavy lifting ngl
28
erv4 Mar 21, 2026 +40
22% is super high imo. Think about people that date in real life, do you think 22% of tinder matches, that actually date, are still together?
40
dukecityvigilante Mar 21, 2026 +16
No but a Tinder date is orders of magnitude lower stakes production than a many-hours long season of a television show with many contestants and lavish flights, restaurants, excursions, etc. If you really want to make an apples to apples comparison there then you have to start by multiplying each bachelor couple by the number of contestants on the season. The numbers probably get close to even without even factoring in that one is thousands of times more expensive.
16
erv4 Mar 21, 2026 +2
I'm talking about people who are exclusive. Some people on tinder go on dates with tons of people a year, kind of like how the bachelor works. But when they pick their "one" and date, I doubt tinder is anywhere close to 22% successful. Of course the show is more lavish and in the spot light, but that high of a success rate is impressive. For example of another reality show, of the 68 couples that got engaged on Love is Blind, only 6 are still married.
2
MatthewHecht Mar 21, 2026 +55
A common saying in the Survivor fandom is "Survivor has made more succesful marriages than The Bachelor."
55
Top_Report_4895 Mar 21, 2026 +4
Why is that? I'm just asking.
4
Bored_Worldhopper Mar 21, 2026 +49
I’d imagine because the premise isn’t 20 people trying to f*** the same one
49
FatalFirecrotch Mar 21, 2026 +5
You spend way more time with way less people on survivor.
5
DiTrastevere Mar 21, 2026 +9
I’m kind of shocked that the rates for Bachelor in Paradise are that good. I wonder what their secret sauce is.
9
Joshdabozz Mar 21, 2026 +6
It’s clearly doing the heavy lifting Remove those 40 and it drops a 14%
6
TheScreaming_Narwhal Mar 21, 2026 +2
Because it's not a 1 to many relationship, really. People selectively pair up. That leads to more options and less forcing it.
2
Osgiliath Mar 21, 2026 +9
That number is actually pretty good and I’m surprised. Considering that the show is really just speed dating
9
walrusk Mar 21, 2026 +2
Those numbers are astonishingly _high_
2
RegulatoryCapture Mar 21, 2026 +15
That’s why this was such an odd choice.  The show is trash, but it is Disney style love. The dating show you can’t really judge someone for watching with their young daughter (I mean you can, but it is more acceptable than others). It is the traditional love story…no gimmick, you date a number of people and then get engaged to one.  No pods, no getting married first, no party vibe with partners jumping around. Just classic romance.  Bringing in a double baby daddy, divorced, swinger, convicted domestic abuser was a weird choice.
15
one_is_enough Mar 21, 2026 +2
It’s a bunch of talentless attention whores competing to be the most blatant narcissist while pretending to be decent people.

6
OneBillPhil Mar 21, 2026 +5
lol yeah, like people don’t watch the Mormon Wives show because they’re all drama free, model members of society.
5
bilyl Mar 21, 2026 +5
The Bachelor/Bachlorette was the ultimate in respectability politics. Yes, some of them had skeletons in the closet that were revealed after, and 1% of the relationships actually last, but the entire premise of the show was a wholesome PG “pure love” vibe.
5
HoBaggyPants Mar 21, 2026 +2
Video matters. This happens in sports as well. Lots of athletes get off easy when it's just words, but they only get actual punishment when there's video.
2
primal_slayer Mar 21, 2026 +66
Girl dont be so dramatic lol. This does not completely destroy the franchise. She is more known for a completely different one that people will forever see her as Mormon Wives. Not The Bachelor.
66
bbmarvelluv Mar 21, 2026 +20
They’ve had other cast members in the franchise with criminal backgrounds and it still kept on going
20
primal_slayer Mar 21, 2026 +25
they survived Colton stalking his ex but also being gay.... like what is she talking about
25
bbmarvelluv Mar 21, 2026 +8
The guy from Jen’s season, another guy who is a registered sex offender, etc
8
Turbulent_Crow7164 Mar 21, 2026 +4
I mean Mormon Wives can just continue without Taylor because there’s so many other characters. They didn’t lose an entire filmed and produced season costing millions of dollars like the Bachelorette did. Taylor was the entire season. Disney has got to be so pissed rn.
4
primal_slayer Mar 21, 2026 +4
Thats The Bachelorette though. It's not The Bachelor. It's not Paradise. Disney didnt lose any money on them. Taylor was brought in to raise ratings for The Bachelorette. So The Bachelor franchise is not in ruin like Rachel is trying to say. Mormon Wives literally centered around Taylor. She was the Beyonce. They even say it this season flat out. She is known for Mormon Wives. When people think of her, they wont be thinking of The Bachelorette.

Production/casting destroyed the franchise for thinking a known loon would be great tv. But it's for the best. Should have buried this brain drain years ago.
3
Silver-End9570 Mar 21, 2026 +3
Bullshit. The show has too much of a pedigree and makes too much money. I see them putting it on hiatus for a few years then coming back with a reboot. I don't watch it, but I watch a lot of YouTubers who cover the seasons, so I'd hate it if it was dead.
3

Oh no! Think of the struggling models and actors that would never get work any other way. Seriously, have you seen these shows? 90% of the people on the shows have the personality of a door knob because they're just recruited for being attractive and having an agent that is willing to get them any gig possible to boost their acting/modeling career.

Doubtful. They'll announce the next woman, fans will go crazy, and everyone else will have the same opinion. They already knew her history when they cast her, and a lot of fans were already upset. I mean yes and someone is one going to be fired, just saying that is not like if they can’t release a Marvel movie. Disney and all Studios being creed y as f*** is not in question

Why didn’t they use a bachelorette from the bachelor franchise that lost? Isn’t that the formula? I’m confused why they didn’t do that this time arouns

You add someone with a history of spousal a use and couldn’t see this coming? I’m just surprised it was a female that ended it all.

>Lindsay cut her two co-hosts off to share the news, admitting she had “chills.” She also explained that she thought the season was “over” after the video was released. They are just talking about the new season. They didn't know it was cancelled at that point when they recorded the podcast. The show won't end over this. It's new faces every season. They'll suffer financially because they won't have a new season but the show will continue. Taylor will wind up going on House of Villains and the Bachelor/Bachelorette series will continue.

cancelling the season they know is the cheaper method, airing it still after TMZ released the videos to the public would cost them sponsors which would be insanely more expensive

Do you know what destroyed the franchise? Having Chris host that thing for so many damn years. And never changing the format. And becoming an absolutely dreadful bore. Love is Blind is successful because they changed it to someone half interesting.
