To paraphrase an old Soviet-era joke : What are a Russian's last words before he 'throws himself out of a window'? "Comrades! Don't shoot!"

The "corruption" was that he neglected to give Poutine his share.

Funny nobody wants to talk about you're allowed a certain amount of corruption at every level. Its only when you lose favor they start looking for where you were about your level

>A Russian military court sentenced former Deputy Defense Minister Pavel Popov to 19 years in prison Friday for embezzling funds from Patriot Park, a Moscow military theme park showcasing Soviet and Russian weaponry >The case against Popov, who was arrested in 2024, relates to business activities at a sprawling park in Moscow sometimes called Russia’s “military Disneyland.” You know, if it weren't for this whole antagonizing all of Europe for the past 25 years, I'd consider a trip to Patriot Park. Objectively, it sounds interesting. I wonder if there's a place where you could drive a tank.

Drive A Tank in Katosa, Minnesota is your answer (if you’re in the Midwestern US of course.)! Was by far the best use of my birthday money.

How corrupt do you have to be to get sentenced for corruption in Russia?

You dont need to be corrupt at all. All you need to do is to wrong people in power. It is not the corruption that is the problem. It is that he either pissed off someone bigger, or he is being used as a fall guy. His own corruption is irrelevant.

Cleptocracy caused them to lose the war. It was visible in the first day of the war the equipment they had was of bad quality or existed only on the paper. It goes probably to all levels, from the sergeant on the ground up to Putin. The entire system livs off and for corruption, so hard to believe they are serious. Popov is probably someone they are throwing under the bus and making an example of to scare others into submission.

Don't be misled, they all are corrupt there, they are being punished for not meeting expectations while being corrupt or pledging loyalty betting on the wrong horse 😄

🤦🏻‍♂️ please at least read the article next time. It was a private sale. And no it's not, there's tons of market manipulation in non fascist societies. Not even saying this admin isn't fascist, this is just such an absurd example to try and prove that point. You picked something that isn't indicative of fascism and then used an example of something that isn't even what you claimed. This is like someone getting punched in the face and saying "see! Football is very dangerous for ACLs." Like yeah, it is, but that punch has nothing to do with it.

> a private sale.  Really bad point, if anything that makes it a better example of insider trading. > And no it's not, there's tons of market manipulation in non fascist societies. Correct, market manipulation is a crime that occurs in lots of places. When the rates and amounts very suddenly increase after an election, it's a tell tale sign of fascism. > This is like someone getting punched in the face and saying "see! Football is very dangerous for ACLs."  I'm starting to think maybe you aren't a good source on fascism. 🤦🏻‍♂️ please at least try to read the article next time.

The crime here isn't corruption, it's corruption without permission.

Everyone in power is corrupt in Russia. They only jail scapegoats and those who pose a threat to leadership.

>President Vladimir Putin personally donated money to commission the main icon for the church, according to the Kremlin. Putin invested money. He isn't being jailed for corruption. He's being jailed for not turning a profit.

Russia's justice system is no justice system. It's corrupt as hell. The top get away with everything and anything. Not too much different than what the US is trying to emulate.
