Imagine renouncing your faith for Donald Trump.

These people never had faith in anything other than the system always being rigged in their favour. And they’ll do whatever it takes to make sure that never changes.
4095
oranguslolus 4 days ago +776
Yep it has nothing to do with his "faith", this is to normalize this stance to their viewers who could've been potentially bothered by those comments. That's literally it and it has been their MO for the longest time. That's why you see these morons repeat all the same talking points like robots. I know a couple of literal doctors in my family who are anti-vax & covid deniers bc of this shit despite being in the field for 3-4+ decades. It's absolutely insane. Best part? We're South Asian...

Still baffles me the devout Catholics, my my husbands family that say “that’s not my pope”….as if you have a choice in that religion to just disregard him and what he says.
475

My favorite part is when they say, “The pope doesn’t speak for the Catholic Church.” B**** he literally does it’s his whole job lol
423
upthedips 4 days ago +234
Yep Papal Supremacy is part of the dogma of the Catholic Church. If you don't believe in it, you aren't a Catholic. There isn't a choice in the matter.
234
Timelymanner 4 days ago +67
It’s one of the major factors during the reformation. Protestants literally said Christian don’t need the Catholic Church and a Pope to be a Christian. Just faith in the Jesus and the Bible. The Pope said nope, once you’re in there’s no out, unless you’re excommunicated. Protestants were like we aren’t fired, we quit. Then Europe went to war.
67
Petrichordates 4 days ago +60
It's worth noting that this led to some very unchristian perspectives on Christianity. Like how on earth does prosperity theology exist within Christianity? Makes no damn sense.
60
Beautiful_Welcome_33 4 days ago +24
Well, in betwixt the warring between Catholic and Lutheran princes the hoi poloi became literate and started having even worse theological ideas - enter many centuries of conflict and also the prosperity gospel.
24
myasterism 3 days ago +11
They also said “you can’t pay to get into heaven,” which was at odds with the Catholic Church at that time: the sale of indulgences was among the Protestants’ biggest beefs. Organized religion always just ends up being shitty cover for money/power schemes.

Ask them if there is any authority or expert or trusted source in any field they would trust over Trump on a subject of expertise? Who, specifically? And why not the Pope, in this case?

Don’t you think he’d “switch” to Evangelical? It’s considerably more accepted by MAGA and it seems you can make up whatever you want in that wing of Christianity.

my Dad has become decidedly more fundamentalist in his Catholicism in the past 10 years, and has said that he would denounce the Pope if he made the call that homosexual acts were not considered sinful. This man has a gay brother.
77
floydmulder 4 days ago +74
I’m Catholic and have never understood this line of thinking. Assume for the moment, just for the sake of argument, that being gay is some hell-worthy trespass. It’s not my place to try and make sure adults with free will stay on the straight and narrow with God. We all end up in the same place eventually. And when I get there, I fully expect that the first thing asked of me is not going to be “Were you sufficiently offended by other people’s choices?”. It’s going to be something along the lines of “What did *you* do with the time I gave you?”. There’s two people in that conversation and only one has any business passing judgement. Additionally, anyone who’s willing to side with a self-obsessed, manipulative, morally bankrupt, thrice-divorced, power hungry, money obsessed, grifting, *extremely* probable rapist of both adults and children who likely can’t name any of the Ten Commandments he’s spent his life so gleefully violating as opposed to a guy whose chief message boils down to “It would be really great if we could just stop being assholes to each other” is not someone I’m willing to take as an example of moral superiority. F*** Hannity.

Battle of the cults... "I exploit you, still you love me, I tell you one and one makes three..." Source: https://youtu.be/7xxgRUyzgs0 "And thusly I clothe my naked villainy in old odd ends stolen forth from holy writ and seem a saint when most I play the devil..." Shakespeare "I should suppose the Catholic portion of the people at least, as a small and even unpopular Sect in the U. S., would rally, as they did in Virginia, when religious liberty was a Legislative topic, to its broadest principle. Notwithstanding the general progress made within the two last Centuries in favor of this branch of liberty, and the full establishment of it, in some parts of our Country, there remains in others, a strong bias towards the old error, that without some sort of alliance or coalition between Government & Religion, neither can be duly supported. Such indeed is the tendency to such a Coalition, and such its corrupting influence on both the parties, that the danger can not be too carefully guarded against. And in a Government of opinion, like ours, the only effectual guard must be found in the soundness & stability of the general opinion on the subject. Every new & successful example therefore of a perfect separation between ecclesiastical & Civil matters is of importance. And I have no doubt that every new example will succeed, as every past one has done, in shewing that Religion & Govt. will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together..." Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
25
nonuple_espresso 4 days ago +5
So many on here repeat that trope and feel smart. But 'conservatism' today is little more than a perpetual and desperate search for people and groups on which you can punch down for a c**** ego boost and to soothe a massive inferiority complex. It's comfort food for stupid fucks.

They have no “faith” or consistent morality or beliefs. They flip flop over night, they change as much as the wind. You can’t reason with immoral people when they have no actual basis for morality. These are disgusting evil and apathetic psychopaths and they control the world sadly. Religion may have started with good intentions of hope, it’s just became a way to control the masses by being ignorant and blind followers. “Don’t ask questions, accept what we say without evidence, don’t question your leader” Sports are used in the same way in America. “Us vs them” “win or lose, there is no tie” players change teams and people change their morality with them after years of support. Fans are blind to the abuse and greed that surrounds it.

That's so sad. And I was SURE he was always going to be catholic. I've always cared about his religion, you see. At least now he has a superior religion, the trump ~~cult~~ religion.

Anti-Christ = Trump. People are denouncing their religion for someone so vile. After Trump this fraud will claim he found his religion again and he was wrong. Typical grifter.

Imagine changing your religion to obey a politician. He's either in the MAGA cult or was never religious to begin with and is just grifting.

It shows you that they’ve been faking their Christianity all along if they would discard their religion so easily for the orange lunatic.

The antichrist's job is to reveal the non-believers and ensure they are not offered redemption or repentance. They follow him straight to hell.

We went from people choosing to have their heads cut off for belief to selling your soul for the hope Orange Turd tosses you a bone. Feels like we are on the downward slope of that bell curve.
