Not a bad idea but wouldn’t actually work. Can’t sanction countries without the support of the US government. Would be great if you could

Let's sanction the US and since human rights is such a grave concern let's sanction China as well since they are propping up Russia. Who are we gonna trade with? Aliens?
Might be popular on listnook, but the moment any government does that and people start feeling the effects of rising costs, the opposition will simply run on returning to the status quo and win.

You don’t get it.

Frankly I kinda prefer this over whatever US and Israel are trying.
And being vocal within EU is largely messaging to other EU countries that maybe something should be done. As well to external countries
It is up to Lebanon to ask for help now that vocal stance has been made.

Im not one of those cookers that think the government is at fault for this or are doing nothing at all. However, the silence around US, rhetoric saying “Iran started the war” and AUKUS is very disappointing.

Macron's suggestion for resolving the situation in Lebanon was to increase funding for UNIFIL.
You know, the organization which has proven to be absolutely useless.

France insisted on being a party to the cease fire negotiated between Israel and Lebanon in 2025. They've since sent 0 aid to the Lebanese government to help them rid the country of Hezbollah. They just wanted to push themselves in there to make themselves look relevant on the world stage. Now they are "condemning". And they'll probably insist in being part to the next negotiations. Great job all around 👍.

maybe the EU should go disarm hezbollah since the UNIFIL completely failed and lebanon hasn't done it. I get the hate for israel but hezbollah literally broke their ceasefire, what did they expect israel would do? and the israeli's and american's seem to think lebanon wasn't part of the ceasefire agreement (there's 3 whole different versions!). what a f****** shitshow this is.

What a relief! I'm sure all those IDF soldiers having to slog their way through Hezbollah ambushes in Lebanon will appreciate having the Spanish and French armies take over and disarm Hezbollah for them. I mean, surely that's what they are proposing, right? They wouldn't just offer us their mouth farts if they weren't prepared to show us a better way, right!?

Dropping hundreds of bombs on neighborhoods is hardly the same as soldiers slogging thru armed streets.
-20

You're right, bombing those neighborhoods where Hezbollah has their infrastructure is very wrong! The Spanish and French armies should send their soldiers in to clear those places out and show those mean old IDF generals how it's done!

What would actually do the trick is these nations committing their forces to disarming Hezbollah, as they all voted in favor of decades ago, but that would require them to have actual spines.

No kidding. Last ai checked UNIFIL was in Lebanon for 30 years to help with Hezbollah disarmament and so far progress has not been great. So until these European countries put up troops to help, they can kindly shut it.

You need to understand how Spanish people think. The fact that UNIFIL is there is independent of the fact that they don’t do anything positive. The UN is on the ground so what has to be done is done, the rule is the rule and disobeying it is invalid even if it doesn’t work. In Spain, a rule is an ideal, not a reality, enforcement is selective and based on expedience and taste.

If you ever talked to an Israeli you would know that they already know the world hates them, as they have hated jews for millennia. Thats how they know the only way to survive is through strong military, not diplomacy. The chance for diplomacy with neighbors came and went. No matter how much israel conceded, they kept getting bombed. Why keep asking nicely?

yeah, after the guy who owns that place shot them and tried to take their land, may I remind you israel and lebanon have been in a constant state of war since 1948, when lebanon was part of the coalition invading israel to push them into the sea? same with syria. those two get bombed by israel semi often, however some of the others of that coalition, namely egypt and jordan, have made peace, notice how they don't get bombed by israel? nor do they host terrorists who attack israel.

In Spanish media Israel is portrayed as the aggressor and the IDF as the equivalent of Hizbollah, this is how people in Spain understand the situation and it explains their posture.

People are quick to say “see America, that’s called soft power” every time Canada, Europe, Japan etc sign a new trade deal, partner together on a defense project, grant one another permission to abstract a natural resource etc. I wanna know when are they (i.e. Canada, Europe, Japan etc) going to use their great soft power people love boasting about to solve a global conflict? No one is going to actually answer the question. The go to response is going to be “America and Israel started this and therefore they should be the one to clean it up.” I don’t disagree but still, they must use their so-called soft power on America and Israel too. Or they should at least use it somewhere else where soft power is urgently needed.
