Friday night movie recommendations? 🍿

Posted by TheOverthinkingBean

Heyya everyone! Hope the day has gone well enough for you guys. Kinda in the mood for more good movies to ease into the weekend. Recently watched some new ones which were Hoppers and How To Make a Killing. That was a mix of fun and tragedy. I do recommend em. If you just watched a great one please do tell. Oh and how about what's a yummy snack you like to pair while you watch movies? Share but don't spoil! Hahah. Thank you. :)

I really hated this movie, watched it with friends and we were split. 2 of us liked it 2 of us hated it.  I thought it tried too hard to be quirky and missed the mark into cringe way too many times.

If you have Tubi and you are into the weird. Night of something strange. Tubi has a lot of good movies there.give it a look over.

If you liked that mix of fun + a bit dark, I’d recommend *Knives Out* or *The Menu.* Both are entertaining but have that edge to them. And snacks, I always go with popcorn + something sweet like chocolate. Gotta balance it out.

Speak No Evil the 2022 version.  I don't eat watching movies.

You may appreciate Soft and Quiet then. I will say it's not meant to be funny, it's supposed to be disturbing, but my friends and I found it very amusing. It's a bit heavy handed in its delivery is the thing. Potentially Martyrs as well (2008 French version, don't watch the American one.) If you like things like dark fantasy Pan's Labyrinth style Tumbbad and Errementari both are in a similar vein.  Sympathy for Mr Vengeance (Oldboy gets the most talked up out of the vengeance trilogy, I haven't seen Lady Vengeance, but I think Sympathy for Mr Vengeance was a much better movie. It lacks the stylistic visuals Oldboy has to some degree but the end if Oldboy ruined the movie for me.  If you want something that's just a but weird fucked up there's Visitor Q which at a certain level is about a family being brought together by a stranger, but is simultaneously not exactly wholesome. The directir is Takashi Miike who also made Ichi the Killer (which I would rec too in spite of some major issues I have with the ending) and Audition (a lot of people like this one, I didn't beyond a single torture scene, I had no patience for it.)  It's a trash movie, but I actually liked the first Terrifier (didn't care fir the 2nd or 3rd as much which seems to be the opposite opinion to a lot of people, though my younger brother is with me on this one.)  City of God is another I'd rec.  Stalker is good, fair bit different than many of these. Tarkovsky had a great eye though and it's worth a watch.  I like silent movies and shit as well but I would be hesitant to rec them to people since a lot of people are not. However Freaks from 1930 something or other is slightly older than those and has talking. It's worth checking out though it will forever only exist in an edited form. At the time roughly 20 or so minutes was cut from the movie for being "too disturbing" then a fire at MGM destroyed that footage, still the incomplete version is worth watching.

I’m here for the recommendations as well…I’m currently rewatching Armageddon.  A good snack is always 🍿, as simple as it is 🙃

I'd second They Live, Dark City, Starship Troopers, and Total Recall (if you mean the Arnold one) Highlander is worth it just to see Sean Connery's portrayal of a Spaniard. Tremors and The Princess Bride were entertaining.

I've heard good things about Hopper. How did you like it? If you like animated or disney/pixar my recommendations is Elemental. Comedy would be Tropic Thunder
