Smiley coming back is my personal sign the town should’ve just collectively noped out of existence. Strong premiere though, low‑key recommend rewatching the S3 finale first.

It seems that the man in yellow intervened just before the start of a completely new cycle. If I remember correctly, Priest Khatry was the first in the city during the cycle, and this new cycle may have been meant to begin with the arrival of a new priest. It seems that’s why the man in yellow intervened later on because they had learned too much.
