"If the White House dares to repeat its foolish mistakes, it will soon realize that the flow of global energy and trade can be disrupted with a single move."
It is already disturbed for more than 40 days for the gulf countries. The only difference now is that Iran's shipments is disturbed as well.

Trump went there to disrupt energy distribution. Do not expect things to change until he is told to return to America.
His friends sell energy at a higher price, sell weapons, and he is slowing down China.

Don't worry, there's a whole other trade artery right nearby that Iran's proxies can basically shut down.

Note that I do not condone the situation in the middle east. I am simply looking at this from a sunk-cost falacy.
I think this move is a calculated risk which could work. while a lot of listnookors are shitting all over this, I think this is US's best move at this point (vs total capitulation which has its merits but also significant draw backs). It is now a question of who can be drawn back to the negotiating table first. I think a countries economy can be quite resilient in times of war so this will be drawn out for sure if the US continues to push

The only issue i have is, that this US blockade should have been done 40 days ago and not after Iran exported oil and gas for 15 bilion USD during this period of time...

The problem is that Trump never explained why the US needed to be at war. Therefore, the war is very unpopular in the states. This means he is trying to win a war against a major country without disturbing oil prices or anything that would make voters notice the war.

You're mistaken Trump is still trying to draw people into the war. Trump just landed the first attack on China. Now the question becomes how does China reply? I hope they quietly begin dismantling the US global trade networks with precise financial manipulations but I fear the Chinese Navy gets pressed into action.
I am willing to bet that Iran survived because too many servicemen refused the illegal orders above the public story about peace talks in Pakistan.

Hilariously poor strategy unless the overall objective is escalation of hostilities and deterioration of the situation.

In the normal world people would describe this current situation the US finds itself in as “by the balls”.

Except the US is actually insulated from it because they produce a lot of their own oil. It’s Asia Pacific and the rest of the world that is really exposed.

I'm sure the oil companies are happy. Meanwhile average Americans still have to pay higher fuel prices, and some of them will believe it's Biden's fault or something

Oil is a global commodity. You pay the world price at the pump or the local producers will sell it internationally instead...

Which means that US as a nation gets to profit from this, because they can export their oil production at a much higher price point

The oil companies profit, but everyone else ONCE AGAIN pays for Trump's idiocy. Higher gas prices increases the cost of EVERYTHING. Shipping companies and manufacturers paying/using Brent oil had increased costs. The US buys those things and we pay more.

It’s not idiocy when the oil companies probably give him a cut of the profits. It’s blatant disregard of the people for his own financial gain

Australia has had to hustle. Our PM recently made a ln agreement with Singapore whereby we give LNG guarantees for petrol/etc guarantees.
As an aside, our fairly mild pm actually kicks ass in geopolitics imo.

I recall that most of the oil produced in US can't be used in US because it's the wrong type of oil or something??
And most of the oil used in US actually comes from Canada?

The US mostly has very high quality light sweet crude oil. The US refineries are set up to refine heavy sour crude oil (the c**** stuff). The refineries could process the light sweet US crude oil but that would be a waste of the refining capability and thus not cost efficient. The US refineries are better used on refining low quality oil from Canada or Venezuela.

Wrong. Most oil is domestic with some foreign imports (primarily Canadian) to meet demand.

Iran set a hardline during negotiations that they wanted control of the strait and they would do what they please with it. How is this any different than what they are threatening the world with now lmao?
