How did Bush handle this in the 2000s? He was constantly mocked and trashed by comedians and showbiz people and I don't think he publicly reacted to it once.
He just took it, because it was part of the job.
Trump meanwhile always takes time to respond to people like Clooney. And actually by doing so, he is making them seem even more important, because he is constantly picking public fights with them.

Indy turned into a bitter angry drunk that lost his family all because of an arbitrary event, which was likely done to punish Shia for calling out Speilberg.
And I dont recall Archimedes ever being mentioned prior in Indy stories. So, another arbitrary thing.

It’s actually remarkable… I can’t remember much about it. I am not American and social media wasn’t really a thing yet, and we didn’t have ways to connect to the world like we do now, but I honestly don’t think he was ever that kind of guy. He was more of a Mike Johnson kinda try to put a nice face on everything? Importantly he could speak intelligently compared to what we have now at all levels of govt, content, and public opinion.
Bush was annoying because he genuinely seemed unbothered by his critics.
Bush did embarrassing things and very unpopular things but comparing him to the current guy is actually difficult to do, because at this point the graph is so warped, bush would barely appear.

>In a statement to Deadline directed at the Trump White House, Clooney said: “Families are losing their loved ones. Children have been incinerated. The world’s economy is on a knife’s edge. This is a time for vigorous debate at the highest levels. Not for infantile name calling. I’ll start. A war crime is alleged ‘when there is intent to physically destroy a nation,’ as defined by the Genocide Convention and the Rome Statute. What is the administration’s defense? [besides calling me a failed actor which I happily agree with having starred in Batman and Robin?].”
>Trump said he was postponing by two weeks his threats against Iran as the countries continue talks designed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Clooney was reacting playfully in his statement to Deadline but was deadly serious in his recent public comments. “Some say Donald Trump is fine. But if anyone says he wants to end a civilization, that’s a war crime,” he said in the speech.

Though my theory is that Trump \_is\_ The Joker. I know that makes him sound more a bit more charismatic than he is, but he does have the full-face bad-makeup, and an article about the Joker I read recently included the line
> It's not that the Joker wants disorder per se it's that through his actions he reveals the corruption and disorder that already exists in everyone else.
Change "everyone else" to "the people and culture of the United States" and it seems to fit.

Let’s take them both at face value. One accuses the other of being a bad actor. One literally said it would murder a civilisation, and has the tools to do so. The White House believes these to be of equal standing.

What a timeline we live in. Someone directly accuses the Administration of a War Crime and their response is “No you’re a War Crime”. What’s next from them “My Dad’s bigger than your Dad”
If any other nation on Earth was using this rhetoric, invading Sovereign Nations, stealing natural resources then the US would be in there before breakfast forcing a regime change.
But when America does it?
As for George, he puts his money where his mouth is:
George Clooney has earned over $40 million since 2006 as a Nespresso brand ambassador. He famously diverts a significant portion of this income to fund the Satellite Sentinel Project, which uses spy satellites to monitor Sudan, aiming to track atrocities and prevent war crimes by former dictator Omar al-Bashir

The WH has become the biggest embarrassment on this planet.
Not like this will hurt Clooney's feelings. The man starred in a massive TV show (ER) has been in numerous successful movies, has had one hell of an acting career with couple awards to go with it. Has been called the decider man alive twice, married to a great woman, has lived an extremely great life. Not sure this is going to make him feel too bad about himself.

Forsaken_Towel_83534 days ago

Don't particularly care what George Clooney has to say (he's an actor, not some political deep thinker), but the response of the Whitehouse seems typically infantile, undignified, and weak.
>“The only person committing war crimes is George Clooney for his awful movies and terrible acting ability.”
I wouldn't mind if the response showed any real wit. If they'd come up with a real 'zinger' of a riposte I'd concede 'oh, fair play'.
But in what possible sense are even *bad* movies (if one thinks Clooney has been in some such - I don't feel qualified to judge such things) "war crimes"? It's just the lowest-common-denominator petulant response - "no, you are".
