To be fair, Trump is humiliating the US better than Iran is.

I think US is humiliating itself by allowing Trump to do whatever the hell he wants.

Made worse by not even Trump knowing what Trump wants to do.

He knows full well that just saying this will cause backlash from the US government amd he doesn't care anymore. That shows how much US soft power has erroded.

Merz is quite stupid, so I wouldn’t interpret too much into this lol he’s getting a shitstorm every week in Germany

So I’m not hallucinating. He’s all over the map, right? Seems like he’s posturing self-reliance one day and sucking up to Trump the next.

He and his administration haven’t done much, but he focuses heavily on putting his foot in his mouth as much as possible. It seems to be where his passions (and his abilities) lie.

It is so much easier to shit on the poor and supposedly lazy workers than actually squeezing more out of the economy. Merz is good enough at politics, as evident by his current position.
Policy, though? Thats, like...hard, you guys.

2 weeks ago he said the regime is just about to fall. He should just shut up about it all together. One unforced error after another.

I don’t like Merz either, but that statement was made during the protests in January, when there was a real debate about how stable the Iranian regime actually was. Since then, the situation has changed significantly.

I’m not sure if he knows or if he thought about that before saying it.
He already has a few occasions where he said stupid shit he has to backtrack on after backlashes

More likely that it is not in Germany’s interest for the war to continue and continue acting as an external drag to an already stagnating German economy.
The only thing Iran has over the US is a very decentralised government that can survive multiple decapitations of key posts, but it is precisely this fragmented nature that will lead to near complete inability to engage in basic functions of governance. The Iranian economy has failed months before the US attack, and it is only getting worse in that zone of failure.

Agree with Merz 100%, but I feel this will just egg Trump on to chase an increasingly unrealistic deal.

Trump has two options to open the Strait: start a ruinously foolish ground war, or stop fighting and let Iran dictate terms.
He can chase any deal he wants, but he has no leverage.

Letting Iran dictate terms is getting far from reality as well, they charge huge amounts for passage now and doesn’t seem they’re gonna leave this idea, so it’s stalemate

Nah the strait will be messed up for 10 years unless a full on invasion happens. Other countries are now making plans to avoid the use of the strait in the future.
The water off the coast of Yemen even though ships are attacked less, China is still avoiding that passage.

What kind of realistic deal is on the table?

Trump has already lost. He says he’s won, but the “no more foreign forever wars” crew has turned on him. This is going to go on for a long time. He got suckered into it by Bibi. Iran isn’t Iraq, or even Afghanistan.
