My neighbor dragged me out on a walk with binoculars. I saw a Painted Bunting in the wild and something genuinely clicked. Eight months later I have a life list of 214 species, a good pair of binoculars, and I have planned three trips around birding. It is the most unexpectedly absorbing hobby I have found.
