Good Sandwiches don’t require any dips

Posted by Past-Matter-8548

So there is this saying in my country about Shwarma, that if a person is using a dip with it…it’s bad. A good shwarma will have all its taste within it. I think same applies to Sandwiches and Pizzas.

So, a French dip is no good?

Just because something doesn't require a dip doesn't mean it can't be further enjoyed with one. A dipped food is a different experience with its own merit.

Like think of a pizza, if you require ketchup or some other dip…it means it’s natural sauces are not doing their job. I have learned this after tasting 100s from different restaurants.

I don't agree, I've had some amazing pizza that I could absolutely destroy on its own with amazing sauces, but sometimes I want to dip it in a really good creamy ranch. I really think you're just stating your own personal tastes as if they are facts of food

Shawarma has to have a good amount of toum for it to taste good. Obviously this is always inside the shawarma, but does it really make a difference if the toum is moved to the outside?

I get the idea, but I kinda disagree 😄 a really good sandwich or pizza should definitely stand on its own, but dips can still make it better, not fix it. Like if you *need* sauce, yeah something’s off. But if it already tastes great and the dip just adds another layer, I’m all for it.

I like a well-lubricated sandwich. I can't imagine eating a BLT without mayo. I can't imagine a Reuben without Thousand Island dressing - that is integral to the definition of a Reuben. How does one even make tuna or egg salad without mayonnaise? How does one eat a hot pastrami without mustard? Edit: these are not dips but they are "sauces" that are inside the sandwich.

If it is made for a specific person, agreed that all the taste and flavours should (generally) be within it. **However**, people have different preferences, so dips and such things allow one to customize. Dips, sauces etc allow that for different people, whether in family or patrons of a restaurant.
