Developing options? They managed to run a search engine without AI just fine for decades. Just roll it back to when it was usable.

>Just roll it back to when it was usable.
Back before they removed Ben Gomes from Search and put Prabhakar Raghavan in charge to purposely make Search worse so users would have to spend more time on the site and see more ads, as we learned happened from the discovery in the anti-trust case.

After they got caught scamming their customers for decades with the totally crooked market manipulating algo they called "Bernanke," they needed to get their revenue back up. So, after they lost in court for being crooks, they decided to choke organic traffic off to force more people into the ads. So, they're punishing the open internet by cutting off their organic traffic because they ripped off their customers for years. That's Google dot com, a totally and purely unethical scam factory. Where, their users and customers get punished for Google's crooked and illegal behavior. So, the people who didn't do anything wrong are the ones being victimized by Google *again.* That company can not be trusted under any circumstances and it's already been deemed a criminal enterprise by the courts.
The penalty for their behavior was suppose to be the company being broken up, but they somehow broke the court system, so now there's a "a criminal enterprise operating like a pirate ship." They're just going to steal as much money as they can, and rip off as many people as they can, before the courts finally shut the company down for being a bunch of crooks...

This. Google has been purposefully made useless even before turning to AI slop. Noone in theit right mind should still be using it.

Roll it back to when? Roll it back to pre sponsored links. Roll it back to before the first page wasn't filled with ads and sponsored links.

(And when basically everyone opts out of this and they see just how unwanted this filth actually is by the vast majority of people, I expect this feature to quietly disappear unfortunately)

No, kidding. I don't want AI involved in my searches.

I need a parental control in routers that password-locks any forms of redirect to GPTs the way we can with adult content…

Ai searches are great sometimes. Gemini can give you an answer and provide the source. You just need some critical thinking to determine if the ai is lying to you. It’s def slop sometimes, but so is the garbage that humans produce.

Why though? Why can’t you just do a google search yourself? Saves energy and is something we have all been doing for decades at this point.

So I don’t need to go to a website filled with ads. I just get the answer with the link to the website.

Not only that, but there are countless people who *love* AI and can't be convinced that it's unreliable and lies to you.

Reminder: If you add "-ai" to the end of your query, Google won't give you the AI answer.
That's not the whole thing and they should still have the opt-out, of course.

They should rollback and make "+ai" to initiate ai based query.

Honestly yes please. This would be fine. Or ai.google.com instead of www.google.com

Adding swear words to your search can also filter out slop results.

Even easier: don't use Google at all. No options needed.

Too late I already permanently switched to DuckDuckGo who already has that functionality.

Same here, and the few times I've been dissatisfied enough with my search results to try Google, the Google results aren't any better than DDG's. Pre-enshittification Google was better than DDG, but DDG is better than the current enshittified Google.

Firefox turn off the AI tools in the settings, uBlock Origin and the "Hide Google AI Overviews" extension does wonders for when you need to use Google.
I mean I always advise the first two anyway but hiding the AI shit for when I do need to use Google is nice

blocked that shite ages ago, and barely even use google now; it's search function is a shadow of it's former self.

In the mean time you can get a plugin that removes Ai from Google and YouTube.

Not using AI was never supposed to be a choice. How else would the AI team find the metrics it needed to show user engagement was hitting targets?

We've been asking for this the entire time as uses... WTF is with the massive disconnect with these companies where they have to be forced into doing basic things that their users want and are basic common sense things? Obviously not everybody wants AI slop plastered over their search results because it's suppose to be a search engine and not an AI slop barf factory... These companies have zero awareness of what they are doing and must be broken up... They had to go to court over a toggle button that should have been there from day 1... Their behavior is totally absurd...
