Trump said the public is blaming the Dems for the shutdown, so he's going to keep up the pressure by forcing them to accept the Save Act. Without that, he won't agree to their terms no matter what. Our dumbass president really believes everyone is as mindless as MAGA.

Fywq Mar 24, 2026 +2701
If the public blamed the democrats that much, they wouldn't need the Save Act to try to suppress the democrats in the midterms. These people are idiots.

Trump has been accused of a lot, but he's not accused of being smart
868
HyruleTrigger Mar 24, 2026 +338
He's regularly accused of being smart. There simply isn't much evidence that the accusations have merit. There is a bevy of evidence that he is intellectually incurious and extremely confident... So, in short, he's quite stupid.
338
whichwitch9 Mar 24, 2026 +80
We don't count maga because no one outside maga accuses them of being smart

ajoseywales Mar 24, 2026 +27
I hate to say it, but the man is smart in his own warped way. He has been the leader of the "free" world and/or nearly as important for a decade now. He has consistently shown a complete disregard for law, the general human population, the planet, and any future that exists beyond his lifetime. Yet somehow, the man continues to do whatever the hell he wants. I hate it, but he clearly knows how to manipulate and get his way. Is it a longterm strategy, no, but it works and 30% of the US is completely supportive. --- Just to be clear, I hate this timeline.
27
BadmiralHarryKim Mar 24, 2026 +6
Not smart; just rich, white and male. The fact that he isn't in jail or eating out of garbage cans says so much about America.
6
Srdiscountketoer Mar 24, 2026 +6
Plenty of rich white males went to prison during and after the Nixon administration. Something changed and is effed up now and the only thing I can put my finger on is the Republican Party and its supporters. Propped up by an unending flow of internet propaganda.

TheGreatBootOfEb Mar 24, 2026 +34
Ive read quite a few reports now that Trump is basically only shown bullshit ChatGPT-generated type “news” such as the war in Iran having a 90%+ approval rating. He has always been evil and vile, but now he’s evil, vile, and genuinely out of touch in the literal sense. Also the closer it gets to midterms, the less likely the SAVE act is to being useful for them as it’s tied up in courts and states just proceed as regular. In fact I’d argue spending so much time on the SAVE act rather then pivoting to a different election subversion method is yet another action that may end up backfiring (though I say may because I’ve learned the reality can always let me down)
34
abx99 Mar 24, 2026 +5
It's always been that way. Even in the first term, the people around him would heavily filter the news he saw so that it was always positive toward him. They've always been too afraid to tell him any bad news.
5
Deep_Stick8786 Mar 24, 2026 +24
The save act will probably backfire in the midterms as GOP voters are less likely to have passports and more likely to change names when wed. All of this is predicated on the false idea that unauthorized voters exist by and large when they don’t outside of a handful of folks who don’t understand they can’t vote. The reality has been proven time and time again
24
LostBob Mar 24, 2026 +31
As people have pointed out to me, I think they are also planning for selective enforcement. Even without that, just throwing a giant wrench into the election process late into this late is enough for them to cause chaos and then use that chaos as an excuse for endless investigations, calls of fraud and impropriety, or just trying to call the whole thing off.
31
Lucius-Halthier Mar 24, 2026 +19
Well Trump did say the intelligent hate him and the dumb love him
19
Chrahhh Mar 24, 2026 +17
Bro, it won't even "suppress" Dems -- the Save Act will disenfranchise millions of voters across the political spectrum.
17
MountainMan2_ Mar 24, 2026 +13
Just from the text (and not the subtext), it is a poll tax that doesn't need to be paid by passport holders, and is doubled for married women who changed their names. That means it least affects: High wage-earners who can pay the poll tax Women who, despite being married, still have their maiden names Coastal and border citizens who have a reason to use a passport on a regular enough basis People with enough free time to go get a passport made So. That's... Rich men and women, liberal women (conservative women change their names at higher rates), white collar workers, and literal coastal elites. Oh, and it fucks the military, of course. I'm sure they are fine with not being able to vote in the country they are fighting for. Yes, it hurts trans people and immigrants, sure, but that's a relatively small number of voters. If it wasn't for the implicit use of ICE to target democrats and the federalization of state voting procedures into the hands of bad actors, you could rightly call this an anti-*Republican* bill.
13
Agent_Smith_88 Mar 24, 2026 +11
While this is true, it’s also a hassle to do. It will suppress voting and guess who has time to do all this? Older voters who overwhelmingly vote republican. They might as well say “we only want white people over 65 voting”.
11
Anna_Frican Mar 24, 2026 +10
The secret ingredient is selective enforcement.
10
1nfam0us Mar 24, 2026 +27
Well, Trump doesn't need the average person or even most elected officials to believe it. He just need Schumer and Jeffries to cave and whip votes, which they often do when given razor thin excuses and enough AIPAC money.
27
ReklisAbandon Mar 24, 2026 +25
Without social safety nets being threatened Trump has no leverage to get the Democrats to agree. If Trump can’t threaten people he has no idea how to actually negotiate.
25
elphin Mar 24, 2026 +4
Trump’s not an idiot for saying this; he’s just a liar and the media just report his lies without analysis.
4
MountainMan2_ Mar 24, 2026 +4
He isn't lying. He thinks that whatever he believes must also be what America believes. He believes the shutdown is caused by democrats, so everyone else must too. Narcissism on a national scale.
4
I_like_dwagons Mar 24, 2026 +194
Talked to the wife of a TSA agent yesterday. They’re acutely aware of what bills are being blocked and by who. They’re under no illusion of which party is preventing them from getting paid.
194
boltropewildcat Mar 24, 2026 +53
My wife works for TSA and thinks the ICE agents are the help they need right now. The propaganda is really working.
53
rckid13 Mar 24, 2026 +31
ICE harassing people in airports will probably be a good way to make their party look even worse. Most people in airports are middle class business travelers who are pretty sheltered from ICE and the policies of the current administration. It's probably unwise for Republicans to throw it in their face and make them aware of the issues.
31
ElectricBoogaloo_ Mar 24, 2026 +11
Did she go to work today? Are ICE agents at her airport yet? At the sites they went to today they are quite literally just standing around doing nothing. I don’t see how she can see if for her own eyes and still not believe they won’t help? Scratch that, I can believe it, MAGA does that all the time…
11
boltropewildcat Mar 24, 2026 +13
Yep, said they're all really nice and has been calling her POC coworkers ridiculous for being uncomfortable working with them because they're not the ones who shot a guy in the street. Apparently the public love the ICE agents too and have been shaking their hands and thanking them all day. I now understand what the kids mean when they say 'the ick'.
13
zecron8 Mar 24, 2026 +21
I hope you keep your values in mind and talk with your wife about things.
21
boltropewildcat Mar 24, 2026 +12
She's already stopped speaking to several family members because they support Trump. Now she's flipped sides and thinks he cares about TSA jobs
12
Venetian_Harlequin Mar 24, 2026 +24
Are you going to show her this? I'm sorry, I couldn't stay married to her if she was having that sort of break from reality.
24
boltropewildcat Mar 24, 2026 +11
I'll have to, she thinks that ICE is what the airports need right now. She's welcoming losing her job.

whichwitch9 Mar 24, 2026 +170
Right? Republicans literally are in control of all 3 branches and can't get a budget passed. They're worthless. They can put on their big boy pants and come talk like adults or it can all just fall apart
170
BerryLanky Mar 24, 2026 +74
They are idiots. My conservative family in Oklahoma not only blames the shutdown on the Democrats but also blame the Iran War on them. Their reasoning is the democrats should have attacked them sooner so Trump wouldn’t have to. I thought they were coming around a few months back but they fell right back in line
74
Butcher_Ben Mar 24, 2026 +49
You should remind them that Trump said last year that Iran's weapons were, "obliterated".
49
BerryLanky Mar 24, 2026 +19
And remind them that the Republicans were campaigning on Kamala will get us in a war with Iran.
19
Butcher_Ben Mar 24, 2026 +12
He was right, though! He said if I voted for her, we would be at war. Sorry.../s
12
Mysteryman64 Mar 24, 2026 +15
With all due respect, your idiot family likely weren't even going to say otherwise, no matter what. Those types, you don't need to get them to vote Democrat. The best case scenario is they just f****** stay home.
15
I_Am_No_One_123 Mar 24, 2026 +14
Remind them that their hero Reagan negotiated with Iran to delay releasing American hostages until after he was sworn in. He also illegally sold weapons to Iran and directed the funds to the Contras as well as running away when they killed 250 Marines in Beirut.
14
NorthernPints Mar 24, 2026 +15
Facts sadly don’t work on these types - they’re so pumped for of propaganda/rage/and enjoy being told how to think that the vast majority of them are unreachable (or fixable). It’s essentially boiled down to a battle between those who are intellectually curious and those who are intellectually lazy, with little in between.  I’d genuinely love to see a roadmap on how to course correct intellectually lazy people as a means to combat its pervasiveness in society.
15
gatoaffogato Mar 24, 2026 +6
A good reminder why trying to reach across the aisle is a losing strategy for the Dems. Most of these folks are on the MAGA death train to the end, no matter what happens. Dems need to galvanize the base by showing strong, consistent opposition to Trump and strong, consistent messaging about widely popular progressive legislation - and Dem voters might actually show up this time.

It sadly was a capitulation, but they did “talk about it later”. To which, the republicans immediately shot the bill down in obvious fashion.

I emailed my Senators, who are Republicans, and explicitly said I want them to vote to pay TSA and vote no on the SAVE act. Even if it doesn’t change the outcome, it is recorded that their constituents don’t agree with it. Email your senators, make your voice heard.

The fact that Trump said the Democrats are being blamed for the shutdown tells me that he's been warned that the GOP is being blamed for the shutdown.

He operates on a bubble where everyone tell him he is right and that everyone loves him. He has no semblance of what the reality of anything is. If they pass protest they tell him, oh they are paid agitators and only there for a paycheck. So when you hear him say shit like this, if you keep that context in mind it makes sense somewhat.
9

If those handful of Democrats had not folded last time, I doubt Trump even tries this. They showed weakness, and now he is trying to exploit that.
28
TommyyyGunsss Mar 24, 2026 +7
I’ve seen so many Republicans in the past bash Democrat’s bills saying that it’s not a clean bill and they’re trying to sneak things in, now Trump is literally sneaking unrelated things in and turning down a clean bill.

Everyone is expecting a false flag.  Especially in California.
522
Pndrizzy Mar 24, 2026 +169
The problem with a false flag is that it has to be believable. If the president is saying the greatest threat to America is the radical left, and California gets attacked and MAGA celebrates it and doesn't offer help, how exactly is that a false flag? They would even f*** that up
169
HelenDeservedBetter Mar 24, 2026 +55
If they can keep people busy and confused arguing about whether it was a false flag or not, they can push through whatever illegal policy changes they want and not get enough resistance to stop it. That's been their MO for years.
55
beepbeepbubblegum Mar 25, 2026 +3
Wild that so many people are so cartoonishly evil. I feel bad if I’m taking too long to order something in line and these people gleefully ruin other people’s lives without batting an eye.
3
bradfish Mar 24, 2026 +28
It wouldn't be true false flag, like from a 90s espionage movie.  It would be a modern post-truth false flag, where hipocracy is the true power being exerted.  Rember, Jan 6th was actually Antifa, but Trump also pardoned all of them.
28
Pndrizzy Mar 24, 2026 +11

“Everyone” is carrying a lot of weight but yeah I’d imagine the 5% of Americans on Reddit are definitely not going to be duped by this…
42
SockStinkQueen Mar 24, 2026 +48
"While usage varies by demographic, about 40% of American adults with a college degree report using the platform, compared to 15% with a high school diploma or less." "As of 2025, approximately 37.9% to 44% of American adults aged 25 and older hold a bachelor's degree or higher. When including associate degrees and postsecondary certificates, nearly 49.6% of U.S. adults have attained some form of higher education, representing over 100 million people." im not great at math but im pretty sure more than 5% of americans are on reddit.

But what i don't get is with how the save act works, basically all voter rolls now would be thrown out and all new ones made. So that would put rural republican areas at a disadvantage. Living in a big city that favors democrats have much more capacity to register people and often isnt far from their homes or work place. In rural areas, you often have to drive a long distance. Seems like they would be shooting themselves in the foot to me. Long term, sure it's a decent idea to eliminate voters that will vote against you, but short term where it would matter most its a terrible plan for them. Before long term goes into effect it will be removed (assuming it goes into effect).
19
showhorrorshow Mar 24, 2026 +31
That's presuming this requirement for voting will be equally enforced in rural areas, or will they get a pass because "they know him"? They are already using this logic for "more secure elections" to justify eliminating cross-county voting in TX. It's more "secure" because it's "more local"... which just translates to poll workers getting to pick and choose who they find "suspicous".
31
shibarak Mar 24, 2026 +9
100% They plan on only enforcing it in urban areas of blue/ swing states.
9
Symchuck Mar 24, 2026 +15
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t there something in the act that allows multitudes of votes to be thrown out en masse if it seems “questionable”? I think the danger is to disenfranchise entire blue districts but accept all the red votes that come in. I hope I’m wrong but I thought I had read that or seen it discussed recently.

Why in God’s name would anyone being subjected to that kind of taunting want to work with him? It’s such a whiney, disrespectful way to operate. The Dems would look like absolute wimps if they came to the table after that. It’s not like he’ll stop calling them crazy, country-destroying radicals after they pass the steal the vote act, he’ll just come up with a new reason to keep saying it.

> “At the same time, we would offer a bill for reconciliation where we don’t need any Democratic votes to do whatever we wanted to do with ICE,” [Kennedy] continued. “That way, we’re out of the shutdown, and DHS is back open. Senator Thune submitted that to President Trump, as is his right, he said no. No deals with the Democrats.” Trump’s going to be in for a pretty significant shock when he has to deal not only with a Democratic Congress come January, but also a Congressional Republican caucus that’s going to feel the need to build at least a sliver of distance between them and a lame duck President in his last two years.
858
TeamHope4 Mar 24, 2026 +415
So, when the Republicans have complete power over the government, no one is demanding they "reach across the aisle" and make a "bipartisan deal." It's just no deals with Democrats, who represent half the country.
415
EagleBigMac Mar 24, 2026 +264
Democrats represent more than half the population.
264
BigMeanBalls Mar 24, 2026 +90
And yet they are also "america's greatest enemy". Just waiting for them to orchestrate Kristallnacht against the dems, it seems inevitable at this point
90
thegeeknerd Mar 24, 2026 +18
Kristallnacht is essentially already being done by ICE.
18
JDogg126 Mar 24, 2026 +30
This is really the problem in the United States since the beginning. We needed equal representation for everyone. It should not be an issue to add more representatives and more senators based on population.
30
TigerITdriver11 Mar 24, 2026 +44
Isn't that always the case? It's the Dems that need to put out the hand of friendship and compromise. Never the GOP.
44
frontfrontdowndown Mar 24, 2026 +13
And they don’t even need democrats for a reconciliation bill. They can pass it with 50 votes in the senate. So he isn’t saying no to a deal with the democrats. He’s saying no to ending the chaos.
13
GildedDreams25 Mar 24, 2026 +3
remember, democrats have to be willing to work together, and to negotiate and they get criticized for not doing so, republicans however? well they’re obviously unmoving statues who HAVE to do the evil thing, we can expect them to budge they don’t even have a choice they’re just little guys
3
Sea_Green7967 Mar 24, 2026 +167
Bold of you to assume he'll be a lame duck.
167
SpankyGnarkill Mar 24, 2026 +132
He’s practically a lame duck already. If he wasn’t the SAVE act would’ve been passed weeks ago.
132
ScotTheDuck Mar 24, 2026 +50
Also the apparent deal that’s being negotiated where they’re going to try and push SAVE off onto a future budget reconciliation bill sounds like Thune pulling a fast one on Trump. They know they can’t put most (if not nearly all) of SAVE into a budget bill that passes the Byrd Rule, but it’s enough to at least get Trump to sign on reopening the government.
50
Spiffster13 Mar 24, 2026 +42
Question is will they say f*** it and ignore the parliamentarian and pass it with all their language anyway. Rules never stopped the GOP before
42
Accidental-Hyzer Mar 24, 2026 +57
Then democrats can do whatever they want by reconciliation while ignoring the parliamentarian once they get power. And senate republicans know this. That’s why they’re clinging onto the legislative filibuster despite the president pushing them so hard to get rid of it. They know that the filibuster benefits them when they’re in the minority, and once it’s gone, whether by ignoring the parliamentarian or voting to remove it, it’s gone and not coming back. And no, I don’t believe the SAVE act would prevent democrats from ever regaining power, nor do I believe that anything Trump does to try and rig the midterms will prevent the inevitable. This administration is a shit show, the economy is only going to get worse, and everyone except the cultists know that. He won’t be able to make up the kind of numbers he needs to make up with his meddling.
57
ubermence Mar 24, 2026 +27
And if it were to pass, we (this community, the DNC and everyone else) should immediately be educating every Dem poll worker that they must make sure registered republicans are also presenting proof of citizenship to vote as well
27
Baron_Furball Mar 24, 2026 +3
I don't believe them actually be able to make it pass, but i fully expect a good, college try, before they shit can this version.
3
_Reliten_ Mar 24, 2026 +5
I'm not convinced they actually want it to pass. I think yelling about made up voter fraud and failing to pass this bill is a better fit for their goals. The bill's failure riles up the base (it's the Migrant Caravan of 2026) and, depending on how insane they go, provides a pretext to have the Trump DOJ / WH try to declare the election itself illegitimate and refuse to seat the new Congress. Mike Johnson hasn't had an independent thought in his life. The Roberts Court kisses the ring when it really counts. It really worries me what they'll try to pull to avoid accountability, because they know how absolutely they're going to get fucked at the polls.
5

I’ve been holding this rant in but damn it I didn’t sleep last night so today’s gonna be the day. For the people who say he’s going to run in 2028 or that he’s going to declare himself God King with this weird sense of resignation, why? I get it, being cynical about Trump getting away with shit has been a pretty well paying bet for the past decade, but come on. Why would you even normalize it or create the permission structure for him to do it? By starting at “Trump’s going to do it anyway,” we avoid the most important argument. It’s wrong, and it’s illegal. Don’t even let him start with it. He will be gone on January 20, 2029, one way or another. He has no say in it.
65
Indubitalist Mar 24, 2026 +4

12
jlamamama Mar 24, 2026 +10
I think it’s more of a “prepare for the worst” than resignation. We should be prepared for him to try this but also fight back in the meantime.

It doesn't matter if he does or not. As Mike Pence knew, the VP's role is purely ceremonial in that process.
21

I think you mean as Dan Quayle knew. Pence needed guidance in the end because he wasn't sure.

Okay thanks for the quick reply

I don't think being prepared for things he's repeatedly talked about is normalizing it. No more than warning people of Project 2025 normalized it.

I’ll assume when you ask “why” it’s not just a rhetorical device but a legitimate curiosity so I’ll answer in that spirit. Because “it’s wrong and it’s illegal” has stopped him precisely 0.0 times through all the heinous and outlandish shit he’s done. It’s been a non-stop exhausting parade of things that any professor of law or US History would have laughed at you for suggesting before 2015. I’ve been in the position you’re in right now….5 years ago. Of being like “dude stop being so pessimistic and defeatist, he might have done X but there’s no way he’ll get away with Y.” He always gets away with Y no matter how insane it is. Every time. It’s been relentless and mind boggling for any sane intelligent individual paying attention. It breaks the brain a little. So while I’ve still got a little core of hope and optimism inside me (because I’ll go insane if I don’t) it’s hard to look at the situation and say “yeah it’ll definitely be ok” because it has very repeatedly NOT been ok, and this doesn’t seem to have any simple practical distinction from the other evil shit he’s done. In other words there doesn’t seem to be any obvious guardrail in place that didn’t seem to be in place for the decade of other stuff. That’s why. Not because I want to be.

spazz720 Mar 24, 2026 +3
He’ll need a GOP congress to even think of staying passed his term…and even that will be iffy

They're trying. If the SAVE act succeeds, they're in.
3
frankduxvandamme Mar 24, 2026 +25
Not sure it's safe to assume we'll have a democrat Congress in January. Lots of victories needed, and Trump will never lose that 1/3 of the voters who will always vote Republican regardless. Also, calling Trump a lame duck isn't accurate either. Even if both chambers of Congress are a democrat majority, Trump can still do lasting damage. He can block laws by veto, and basically bring the government to a screeching halt, since the Dems will not have enough votes to override the veto. He can still enact executive orders. He still controls military and foreign policy. And he still has the supreme court in his back pocket.
25
IAMA_Shark__AMA Mar 24, 2026 +11
It's generally considered a near guarantee that the midterm elections shift toward the party opposite the president (18 out of the last 20 midterms). They don't need to shift as many votes as you think to lose fair and free elections this fall. The problem we're staring down is the "fair and free" part.
11
I_Am_No_One_123 Mar 24, 2026 +4
Let him rage. A "D" controlled Congress can/should cut off all funds to the Executive and Judiciary branches until they comply.

Its very easy, he is using all the TSA pain to force his SAVE act to pass so that he can rig the midterms. Until that is passed he will not allow any deals to occur.

"At the same time, we would offer a bill for reconciliation where we don't need any Democratic votes to do whatever we wanted to do with ICE," he continued. "That way, we're out of the shutdown, and DHS is back open. Senator Thune submitted that to President Trump, as is his right, he said no. No deals with the Democrats."
28
EmergencyJacket207 Mar 24, 2026 +19
The SAVE AMERICA ACT is only designed to "save" Trump's ass. Without major shenanigans the GOP is done. Trump saw to that.
19
rujoshin Mar 24, 2026 +23
We can’t allow the SAVE act to be passed no matter what.
23
Itchy_Swordfish7867 Mar 24, 2026 +18
Trump blocked nothing.  He made his displeasure known and every GOP member of Congress kissed his ass. This is an entirely different scenario. Congress has had the ability to rein him in and they’ve chosen not to. They want this. They need this. They need to remembered for their role in this.

> “The Democrats have offered to open up everything but ICE,” Kennedy told Fox News’ Will Cain Monday night. “Ted [Cruz] and I said, ‘okay, let’s accept their offer.’” > “At the same time, we would offer a bill for reconciliation where we don’t need any Democratic votes to do whatever we wanted to do with ICE,” he continued. “That way, we’re out of the shutdown, and DHS is back open. Senator Thune submitted that to President Trump, as is his right, he said no. No deals with the Democrats.” In short, they could accept the Dems deal that doesn't fund ICE, and then fund ICE anyway, but Donald said no because it would mean accepting a deal from Democrats no matter how much everyone wants it. Literally, the worst, President, ever. By far.
16
Head-Fun3394 Mar 24, 2026 +17
Just wait till they start rounding up and jailing democrats as seditionists/terrorists for stealing the 26 midterm elections….that happens after they refuse to seat the elected democratic congress in Jan of 27. The rhetoric is getting more extreme, not less, and they are building towards something truly terrible, and not a single “republican” seems willing to stand up for the rule of law….or much else for that matter. Whatever we thought this country was, it isnt that anymore….
17

Trump cannot stop congress from voting how congress wants to on legislation congress writes. Only GOP cowards in control of the Congress can.
6
batmansthebomb Mar 24, 2026 +7
For a guy who claims he's made deals all his life, he doesn't make any f****** deals. No legislation deals, no peace deals, no trade deals... I can think of several deals he's ripped up and ended, which is just f****** sad.
7
greaterwhiterwookiee Mar 24, 2026 +6
I just realized I don’t actually know any MAGAts anymore. Even my conservative friends have started sending me memes regarding the downfall of trump and MAGA and their insane “tactics”. And seeing Congress trying to actually come together (meaning the republicans have basically talked to Democrats) but having trump continue to throw his tantrum… it’s starting to unravel
6
veluminous_noise Mar 24, 2026 +7
Those conservative friends are likely still voting GOP next election because "it's not Trump" and "because abortion and trans." Just brace yourself.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) gave a stunning reason for why President Donald Trump rejected a bipartisan deal to partially fund the Department of Homeland Security. “The Democrats have offered to open up everything but ICE,” Kennedy told Fox News’ Will Cain Monday night. “Ted [Cruz] and I said, ‘okay, let’s accept their offer.’” “At the same time, we would offer a bill for reconciliation where we don’t need any Democratic votes to do whatever we wanted to do with ICE,” he continued. “That way, we’re out of the shutdown, and DHS is back open. Senator Thune submitted that to President Trump, as is his right, he said no. No deals with the Democrats.” This isn't that stunning.
6
Honky_Stonk_Man Mar 25, 2026 +6
This has been what the Republicans have been doing the whole time. They put out horrible legislation, will not compromise, and want Democrats to humiliate themselves and vote for it anyway. The worst part - it has worked. Dems crawled back and voted in the big awful bill, they crawled back and helped end the first shutdown, and they keep approving his awful nominees! Dems - stop looking at the polling and listening to the bullshit media and do the opposition work you need to do.
6
Zedress Mar 24, 2026 +5
Stunning? Absolutely not. The GOP are all honorless cowards.
5
iplaybassok89 Mar 24, 2026 +6
They can vote to override Trump’s veto at any point. It doesn’t even have to be that many of them either. This is all theatre
6
OkMushroom995 Mar 24, 2026 +5
Why is this "stunning"? Extreme partisanship, lack of concern for regular people, and Republican Congressional cowardice are defining features of Trumpism.
5
bishophicks Mar 24, 2026 +5
Anyone working for TSA needs to be reminded that the ICE agent "helping" them are paid their full salary, and new recruits get a $50,000 signing bonus and are eligible for up to $60,000 in student loan forgiveness. TSA goes without pay because the administration refuses to negotiate, while the inexperienced helpers brought in are paid with a money firehose from a separate account even though they all work for the US Department of Homeland Security.

Pretend_Pea4636 Mar 24, 2026 +14
Burn it down. (figuratively for mods) Let's all meet in Washington and do a full reset on government. We shouldn't be stuck in this doom loop of making richer people richer and having a country that doesn't work for the average. If we want universal health care. Tax policy for everyone. A country whose future isn't tied to credit swaps that collapse us every 15 years. A military 1/10th the size of our current one... we have to wrinkle up the ball of paper and start over. A year of how do we get through this or 2.5 years of none of us knowing what Trump will do next. don't like the path of the Supreme Court, Congress or the Executive, we the people can fix that. It's at the heart of our Republic. Let's hit the reset button.
14
zirky Mar 24, 2026 +6
how is this not the easiest pr slam dunk for the democrats? just take kennedy’s quote and air that as an ad that the president and by extension gop would rather you suffer than be bipartisan just run that shit through midterms

4
amarklin Mar 24, 2026 +4
Jesus. So it's more than abundantly clear that trump isn't president to benefit the country, he's only interested in being president of Republicans (and increasingly, only of magats), so I'd like to see "president of maga" and "maga president trump" be in common usage. No rights for those who didn't vote for him, no funding for any non-magat issues, persecution of anyone who opposed him in anything, no matter how small... what a platform for the worst creature alive.
4
Farnsworthson Mar 24, 2026 +4
"No deals with Democrats". Doesn't matter how extreme what we ask for is, doesn't matter what the colateral damage may be - if they don't fold and give us everything we ask for, you suffer the consequences. Basically "The beatings will continue until morale improves" by another name.

As if anyone has the energy to be stunned anymore about this bullshit. They're exhausting our stamina so they can do whatever they want and the thing that kills me most is that even though many of us can see it for what it is, it's still working.
3

The president should have no f****** ability to strike down votes like this, thats just broken power
4

America continues to decline, the world continues to burn, we continue to lose our savings and fall victim to predatory billionaires, because no-one will decide it's time to deal with Trump. Because no-one will decide that it's time to make supporting MAGA costly. Because no-one will start making sure there are consequences to abuse, fraud, grift, and treason.

It's great strategy, considering that Democrats have already backed down twice before on shut downs and this time, all he needs, is a couple more Republicans to back down and vote to approve the SAVE act. He will do anything to keep the GOP in control of the house because he knows that if Democrats ever get control of both houses again, he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Fox? It’s not a Fox link. It simply references an actual quote from a Fox interview.

You think people have time to read a 12-character source link? Way easier to look at a picture and form an opinion that way.
15
BigMax Mar 24, 2026 +3
The 'stunning' part is basically that no matter how good the bill is or how good the agreement is, he won't sign off on it if democrats like it. That's how he's judging bills now. It doesn't matter what's in it... He directly stated that he will ONLY support bills that are opposed by Democrats, he won't pass any that have Dem support.

3
Leopold_Darkworth Mar 24, 2026 +3
Trump wants the SAVE America Act so he can circumvent the will of the people and do as many unpopular things as he wants, safe in the knowledge the MAGA Party won’t suffer repercussions in the midterms or, perhaps, ever again. Meanwhile, it remains the case that the 2020 election was not stolen from him and non-citizen voting (which is already illegal) is so infinitesimally rare as to be non-existent. Even the conservative Heritage Foundation could find only 70 instances of non-citizens voting over the course of 40 years. The issue of non-citizen voting is a solution in search of a problem. So too is the issue of mail-in voting, which Oregon and Utah have been doing for decades (and which Trump himself frequently utilizes) without significant issues.
3
Vig_2 Mar 24, 2026 +3
Sorry TSA, you aren’t getting paid this year. Blame the President. Because no congressman should give in on the SAVE Act. Period.

Trump wants ICE in airports before the World Cup. He (or, more accurately, "they") wants ICE in airports *in general* to control our movements. This is all part of the plan, shutdown and all.
3
FrozenUnicornPoop Mar 24, 2026 +3
I dont think anyone is even thinking about the democrats at this point. Its his shut down, his war in iran, his high gas prices, his name plastered around the Epstein files.

3

I would say "called it", but it was honestly so obvious it's hard to feel any satisfaction. Trump is holding the GOP and his own DHS hostage to push voter suppression, simple as that.
3
mdruckus Mar 24, 2026 +3
Senator John Kennedy revealed that President Trump rejected a bipartisan deal to partially fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) because it involved negotiating with Democrats. Instead, Senate Republicans will attempt to fund all of DHS through a party-line budget reconciliation bill, a process that will likely take longer.

Queen Cheeto is doing his best to not be impeached. The SAVE Act is to save his corrupt ass
3
amconstance Mar 25, 2026 +3
So is this all really pressure for the SAVE act then? Continuing an illegal war, spending billions in tax dollars everyday and accidentally killing a bunch of school children, and now finding a way to back out of it and refusing not to do so while putting American troops in harms way. They want the voter rolls so they can go through and make sure a lot of democrats cannot vote. They will purge the voter rolls to ensure they win. If the SAVE act passes - I fear that’s the final thread holding up America’s democracy.
3
DramaticWesley Mar 25, 2026 +3
Shutting down the Department of Homeland Security while we are in an active war with a country known to finance terrorist groups seems like a very bad idea. But then again, what do I know. I never hosted a reality TV show.
