"Vanderhorst had been under the influence of MDMA and **three litres of vodka** she had consumed on the night of the offence..."
3 liters of Vodka!? I'm an alcoholic (sober since '96) with a very high tolerance level and my daily consumption was 1 liter a day. When I checked into rehab my bac was .48; I can't imagine 3.

It would be 3L’s (of premixed Vodka drink). Extremely common in Australia. Usually around 5% in a 330ml bottles or 375ml cans. So roughly 8 or 9 drinks which is pretty standard on a night out.

On our walk back from the bars we walked through a park and thought it’d be funny to stack the picnic tables. We stacked them 8 high and it stayed like that for days. A good buzz with some friends makes you just want to get into some tomfoolery occasionally.

The net on the basketball hoop at the local park was all ratty and needed to be repaired bc it was honestly gross and no longer functioned.
One time my friends and I got drunk and were walking through the park and went past the basketball hoop. I felt like I could climb it and grab the net, so I did climb it but then cohldnt get the net down so my friend tossed me a pocket knife and I cut it down while they all cheered and then my friend wore it on his head like a hat and we called him the pirate king.

I know empirically that I can get so drunk that I would think it’s a good idea to stick googly eyes on things.
It was a whole phase.
Back when people got newspapers and there was a comic strip section, I would cut out oddly worded panels from them and apply them in random places as well.
That was often done soberly.

No one can drink 3 liters of vodka in one day. Consuming such a massive quantity would cause extreme alcohol poisoning, likely resulting in coma, coma, permanent brain damage, or death. The body cannot metabolize alcohol at that volume.

They're not drinking it all at once, and you'd be surprised what the liver can get used to (until it breaks horribly)
Also depends on the ABV % of the drink in question, at my worst I'd get through a liter of gin
(in sips) by about 3pm, then coast through the rest of the day until I got home and then drank the 2nd liter whilst playing games/watching movies.
That made me sleepy enough to fall asleep.
3 would would have been questionable, but I can believe that someone has done it and not died.
(also to be clear, when I was at that level I would have gladly died if I could afford a 3rd bottle, it was grim)
(the stroke I had was the wake up call and I've been 2 years sober, hooray)

Exactly. They probably had double stick foam tape on the back, which could be removed with a piece of string and some adhesive remover, doing no harm to the sculpture at all.
I sort of doubt that she had a big tube of superglue with her.
ETA, someone posted a link to a video on the sun newspaper site. She is indeed brandishing a bottle of superglue; so the finish of the sculpture probably was damaged, it shouldn’t have cost more than a few hundred dollars to repair it.

3 liters of vodka. I’ve drank a lot in my life, like a lot. I’ve never approached that amount, that’s major league drinking like the female Wade Boggs

She did not drink 3 liters of vodka alone.
Drunk, or not, a $1000+ fine for googly eyes on a blob sculpture is excessive.

>and that repairs to the artwork would be costly as the stickers could not be removed without damaging the sculpture.
wait how did they try and remove the googly eyes a chainsaw?
a heat gun and they should practically fall off, what kind of paint did they use on that thing and how has it stood up to even mild weather?

>Local Mayor Lynette Martin said the googly eyes was "wilful damage to a valued public artwork", and that repairs to the artwork would be costly as the stickers could not be removed without damaging the sculpture.
Rectified gasoline removes every sticker. Also WD40 works well, but check first that the plastic can't be damaged by applying a small amount to a spot out of sight. It's rare but happened to me once that a plastic surface became opaque after using WD40. Never had any problem with rectified gasoline (all sticker removing products contain it).

according to [https://sevoice.com.au/googly-eye-watering-fine-handed-down/](https://sevoice.com.au/googly-eye-watering-fine-handed-down/) she used gorilla glue, I'm not sure if they mean the [two part epoxy](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Gorilla-Glue-Epoxy-Clear-Glue/681614846?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=102663790) or the super glue

Rage bait is what pays the bills. People will either be pissed she did it, or pissed she was punished. Win-win for BBC.

There should be damage to justify a graffiti charge. Should have just been trespassing

There was damage, referenced as per the photo in the article. The stickers could not be removed without damaging the sculpture.

Im saying I don't believe that it did damage.
Something built to stand in UV and the weather all day isnt going to be damaged by weak adhesive on the eyes.
Even if she applied super glue to it. If the piece got damaged then it was damaged by the removal.

I'd call it an improvement. Most things are made better with googly eyes.

So you're telling me it cost $2,000 to remove the sticky residue!? Has no one ever heard of the $5 Goo gone spray bottle?

It's a more serious crime for the city officials to pay an indecent amount of money for the so-called art that is the blue blob.
