of course. they're following LBJ's advice. >If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you. ― Lyndon B. Johnson

Yeah. They just say whatever they want in press conferences and on cable news. There's no reason to be honest. MAGA eats up whatever they say. Then if anything goes to court of they have to be under oath and tell the truth , they just don't report on it so they never know.

Ummm because fertilizer, fuel and everything else went through the roof in March/April. You just wait for the end of summer..... *Edit* source https://www.dtnpf.com/agriculture/web/ag/crops/article/2026/04/29/10-34-0-leads-fertilizer-prices *Edit #2* Also remember 2022 food price increases? Yup, diesel tied a record avg high on April 7th and remains ridiculously high still going up day after day being higher than yesterday. Also like you said, when the summer blend hits gas stations its going to be a bigger shitshow as its not going to drop enough and gas will hover around $4 through the summer most likely.
288
YoungXanto May 13, 2026 +165
Had to fill my truck twice last week. 31 gallons, 6+ dollars for diesel each time. I've been fortunate in life that I've never really noticed what the final cost was whenever I filled up. I noticed this time. Hard to miss when its closing in on double what I was paying in March.
165
azhillbilly May 13, 2026 +108
My truck fill up is above the 150 limit on my gas card so I have to swipe, put 150 in, hang it up, swipe, and then top off with another 25-40 bucks. It f****** hurts.

Iran Iran Iran. Anytime now they'll lower your gas prices Iran. Strait of Trump.
11
Dahhhkness May 13, 2026 +32
Even with my grocery store's gas reward points maxed out, I still paid more than double filling up yesterday than I did back in February (from the same level of emptiness).
32
kstargate-425 May 13, 2026 +5
Damn, I remember those days when it was a $75 limit too. That shit sucks! I also remember back in the day in high-school when diesel was cheaper than gas but those days are long gone now 😒
5
betier7 May 13, 2026 +5
How long does that full tank usually last you?
5
azhillbilly May 13, 2026 +17
It depends, unloaded and going highway somewhere, 700 miles. Towing 14k lbs around town, 300 or so. I would say on average for me, a tank lasts 400 miles, I don’t often get a lot of unloaded highway miles. And takes me 2-3 weeks of weekend chores, as I drive a Camry to work on the weekdays.
17
jonker5101 May 13, 2026 +33
Holy shit a unicorn. Someone who uses a truck for what it's supposed to be used for and drives a reasonable car for the daily driver.

8
otherwisepandemonium May 13, 2026 +12
Diesel is $6.19 in my city in Wisconsin now. While I know that the West Coast has it far worse in terms of fuel prices, I've never seen $6.19 in my life as far as I can recall.
12
Jealous_Slice9371 May 13, 2026 +6
It's already 4.50, travel hasn't increased and the summer blend hasn't hit gas stations yet. Each day the straight remains closed it gets worse because once reserves are tapped we're going to reach a critical point where oil keeps climbing and causes cascading effects until demand collapses and throws the world into a recession.
6
Sad-Excitement9295 May 13, 2026 +152
By September the system literally crashes if the trend continues. Refineries drop below minimum operational levels and go offline, that's not taking into account every goddamn thing else. And it's already going to be a very hot ass summer. Our best option is literally course correction and damage mitigation now before Donnie Dumbass tanks the entire f****** system. People are not waking up to reality fast enough, and guy is dead set on making it happen. They're already set up to take advantage of it. We are on a freight train to shittown, buckle up and your umbrellas ready folks, this ain't a joke. At minimum, plant whatever garden you can and start getting those bags of beans. Say bye bye to the TV and the toilet paper, this isn't going to go over well, and these asshats are about to grab the cash and run while they use their private military to protect themselves and their bunkers. If you think I'm kidding, that's exactly what they want you to do. You can thank me for the warning by paying attention and doing what you need to do. They definitely aren't worried about midterms, let me tell you that much.
152
pegothejerk May 13, 2026 +46
Yep, came in comments to make sure someone, anyone knew this. It's going to get downright apocalyptic for everyone who is already struggling. Anyone who's annoyed right now is about to find out what discomfort and having to pick between wants and needs feels like for the first time. I fear whats about to happen with people who are already desperate.
46
Serious_Berry_3977 May 13, 2026 +16
As someone on disability and in public housing while being financially poorer every day as I burn through the last of my disability back pay soon thanks to COLA adjustments not even attempting to keep up with inflation and food prices getting more insane every week and Medicaid now requiring prescription copays for some prescriptions.....this is NOT fun..

Don’t forget the effects of not having fertilizer supplies (due, of course, to the blockade) during the crucial spring planting season. Unless something drastic happens, we’re looking at a really, really scary year.

If the economy crashes two months before the midterms they should be worried
21
QuerulousPanda May 13, 2026 +46
the problem we face is that the media as a whole is lying about all of in and is minimizing the impending collapse, so when shit actually comes true and the cheeto disaster finally hits us all, a lot of people are going to be incredibly shocked. it honestly wouldn't surprise me if the plan is for the media to keep lying for as long as they can, let the midterms happen and the democrats win, and then turn around and immediately blame the democrats for the entire world economy shutting off. the collapse might come too quickly though.
46
Sad-Excitement9295 May 13, 2026 +10
They aren't, they have planned well in advance, they don't care about the elections or public opinion (aside from propaganda keeping people misdirected). It's also not like everything will cease to function at once. They will make sure certain things stay running for them while anywhere else is permitted to spiral into chaos. I doubt they want oil to crash, but nobody said they were brilliant either. They basically have plenty of tools and money to hide away in their bunkers while they use force to quell riots local to them, everyone else will suffer and be forced to work for little to nothing. At minimum it will be worse than Russia right now, at worst it will be martial law/Nazi Germany/ Great Depression.  That's how they intend to subdue the country into servitude. Tank the US dollar while they stock in BTC (which they will make people use for goods), declare martial law, force people into poverty and make them submit to monitoring, throw anyone who doesn't comply into their new camps, and hide in their bunkers while the rest of the country descends into chaos. Whether you believe in the bible or not, they do, and it's what they are following. And it's eerie seeing this go on, but Hitler pretty much did this, and we've been warned since the last 2 world wars. After looking at the bigger picture, it's plain to see what is happening. Russia and China also intend to claim their territorial ambitions next year (2027) so there's a massive geopolitical storm on the horizon. This isn't a joke or a wild guess, this is real historical and geopolitical/ economic analysis.

Saw a Fox News post that showed inflation but went out of their way to also show inflation if you remove energy and food from the mix. I mean, I guess that’s helpful—if you don’t use energy or eat.
51
goose_hat May 13, 2026 +55
That's actually the known as the "core CPI" which the Fed actually uses for rate setting. It is kind of silly but it's a legit metric and not just Fox being Fox.

Ok, fair enough. I’ll take that as a check on my own biases against them.

According to data in the article: - Food at home category (grocery store bill) rose 0.7% in April, the biggest one-month jump in grocery prices in nearly four years. - Overall, grocery store prices have risen 2.9% over the past year. - Fresh vegetable prices are 44% higher today than they were three months ago. - Bread prices are 8% higher today than they were three months ago. - Milk prices are more than 5% higher today than they were three months ago. - Coffee prices are more than 22% higher today than they were three months ago. - Beef prices are more than 20% higher today than they were three months ago. - This comes as inflation in April rose to 3.8%, making it so it is rising faster than wages at 3.6%. - Also, total credit and debit card spending per household rose 4.8% in April year-over-year, up from 4.3% in March. Seems like things are going great....

xvilemx May 13, 2026 +40
I run a meat market, beef and seafood prices have jumped nearly 20% and 30% cost for me in the past 3 months. Pork and chicken has increased, but at a smaller rate, maybe 3-5%.
40
aligpnw May 13, 2026 +13
We used to get steak once or twice a month but now it's like $75 for 2. We've switched to bone in pork chops for like $8 for 2.
13
Drakalizer May 13, 2026 +5
Are you seeing less people buying meat or the same?
5
xvilemx May 13, 2026 +9
It's hard to say, less people are buying seafood in my market for sure though. I'm probably a bad metric for that as I cater to mostly geriatric white folk who are retired, and they tend to only want beef, chicken, or pork. It's also hard to judge sales, because my sales are up a bit, but that's from the inflated costs. I'd say in the whole store though, our items per customers are down, and our sales are either barely over prior years, or right under. We walk a fine line there.

Well I voted for Kamala in 2024 and look, here's Trump's regime making all of that a reality. The prophecy has been fulfilled! /s

BoosterRead78 May 13, 2026 +10
Yeah, what they told me and now they are cheering this all on. My favorite: "With prices so high, we will finally get those welfare queens off the system." I finally figured it out, they just don't want anyone who they were told is their enemy around. It's like Invasion of the Body Snatchers because when they talk it's "What the hell is wrong with you? Listen to yourselves?"
10
backwardog May 13, 2026 +57
so tired of that framing. The destruction of education as both a system and a virtue in this country has really enabled all of this. Everything seems like arbitrary opinions I guess if you lack critical thinking. I’ve had people tell me evolution is an opinion before…I’m a PhD biologist, lol. But go on, sure, tell me how life works. You must have listened to a really compelling podcast. Joe Rogan?
57
skatastic57 May 13, 2026 +16
A difference in politics is "Turd sandwich wants to focus on child education and giant d***** wants to focus on the environment". What we had in 2024 was "the rapist conman felon who is currently being prosecuted for more felonies wants to focus on staying out of jail, getting revenge on those who slighted him, and enriching himself through corruption vs Kamala Harris is a black woman with a weird laugh."
16
Iwantmoretime May 13, 2026 +3
How many beltway and legacy pundits or centrist politicians chased "polarization" as one of America's top issues? How many treated Democrats as the only ones with agency to solve "polarization"?

The amount of dipshits on Facebook who said we had to vote for trump because gas and egg prices were high under Biden. And my aunt who said she wanted trump because he didn't start wars and she was team peace. They all are still trump supporters. I'm amazed as election season gets underway how many of my neighbors still have signs out for the Republican candidates. This is what you want?
125
MaxPower91575 May 13, 2026 +58
they say those things because their real reason doesn't sound as nice - they want to hurt people not like them and Trump does that.
58
jrzalman May 13, 2026 +26
It's just sports. If your favorite team goes on a losing streak, you might get mad or frustrated or embarrassed but you don't stop be a fan of the team. You just quiet down for a bit and wait for better days. Once people have chose a political 'team', it's pretty hard to get them to change allegiances no matter how things go.
26
Impossible-Flight250 May 13, 2026 +7
Unfortunately, there just isn’t anything that will change their minds. They may even say “the Republicans are bad, but the Democrats want to destroy the country,” while Trump does exactly that.

I think it would be optimistic to expect a depression. All this malevolent activity may very well cause systems collapse.
2
Obant May 13, 2026 +29
Its super fun being on a fixed poverty income like disability. I can actively monitor the economy by what day my money runs out each month. Under the tail end of Biden, I was making it the whole month (just barely, sometimes running out of money around the 27th but still having food in the fridge. Last year, my money was running out around the 24th and I was having to go to the food bank for the last week of every month to hold myself over. Now I am going just about every week because my money runs out after just over 2 weeks.

dub-fresh May 13, 2026 +208
This happened/is happening in Canada over the past few years. Once the inflation narrative roots, corporations can use it as carte blanche to raise prices. Canada has had brutal food inflation since 2021.
208
isume May 13, 2026 +73
US corps have been doing the same thing. Much like stocks the price has to up go to satisfy board members.
73
perestroika12 May 13, 2026 +34
There is real inflation. Fuel prices are higher and almost everything is connected to fossil fuels in some ways. Transportation from farm to table, fertilizers, plastics, worker wages (higher pump costs)
34
Outlulz May 13, 2026 +30
If inflation causes costs to go up $1.00 a company will raise prices by $1.50. When the costs go back down to only $.50 cents higher, the company will lower prices to be $1.15 higher.
30
jrr6415sun May 13, 2026 +4
Corporations will always charge the highest possible price consumers are willing to pay. They don’t need inflation as an excuse to do that
4
What_a_fat_one May 13, 2026 +4
They charge the most profitable price. That isn't necessarily the highest price consumers will pay. For example, Costco loses money on hotdogs and rotisserie chickens because it gets people in the store.

3
sweetcoffee_________ May 13, 2026 +14
The price hikes haven't even hit consumers yet. Been in the chemical industry for 20 years. What we are seeing right now is a tickle of what's to come. Iran supplied 20% of the global methanol. That's been completely wiped out. Not replaced. Gone. Do you know how many things need methanol as a precurser? And that's just one feedstock that is fucked. It's about to get sooooo much worse.

milkyjoe241 May 13, 2026 +5
I think she would need to r*** kids, steal from charities, and be racist. Because just one isnt enough for these people
5
PandaJesus May 13, 2026 +57
And if she won, a trans girl might have played high school volleyball in a school 150 miles away from me.
57
steppe5 May 13, 2026 +21
Don't even joke about that. Did you know that $0.00000000006 of my tax dollars went for a prisoner's gender change surgery. Never again.
21
Peroovian May 13, 2026 +23
But not even on the varsity team. Also some random woman swimmer in college might have placed sixth instead of fifth somewhere.

The cost of FREEDOM, right Republican voters? F*** your wallet.

24
PompeiiSketches May 13, 2026 +24
Btw guys inflation under Biden happened primary do to Covid and Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Inflation today is cause unilaterally by Trump's actions. First Tariffs and now the stupid war in Iran.

particlecore May 13, 2026 +13
MAGA - As long as Trump are being a d*** to Trans people, we don’t care if grocery prices are crazy high.
13
DarthBrooks69420 May 13, 2026 +11
This stuff is so funny. Maga types will cry like b**** made t**** babies at the price of things and be like 'sir I am literally paychecks from dissolution into abject poverty'. Then the administration just doubles down on 'yeah you just gotta stick it out longer, trust the plan!!' Then it just gets worse, and they eat the administration's ass even harder. I mean I'm not doing great either. But I at leaat understand what's going on. I'll never get the people who *really* thought that because reasons everything would just figure itself out.
11
grantrules May 13, 2026 +10
Haha remember those stupid yard signs KAMALA HIGH PRICES TRUMP LOW PRICES I wonder what the people who had those in their yard are thinking right about now.

\*checks my budget app\* Yup. That tracks. I spent more in food in April than I have in the last several years using YNAB.
28
CrazyBowelsAndBraps May 13, 2026 +19
I wanted a candy bar on the way out of the store the other day and it was f****** 4$. Didn't have to think twice about skipping that snack.
19
atreeismissing May 13, 2026 +21
That's because 1) Trump can't get ahold of inflation, 2) no one has any confidence that Trump will get ahold of inflation, 3) Trump is ruining the economic gains we made under Biden's last 2.5 years, 4) Trump has dismantled many of the supply lines that assist food production that Biden put in place via the infrastructure bill, 5) Trump's war in Iran has made diesel and fuel incredibly expensive and it will take months before they go down, and possibly years before they return to where they were, and 6) any opportunity to squeeze more profit out of customers without losing them (because food is a necessity) is always taken.
21
SanityIsOptional May 13, 2026 +12
Don't forget tariffs and pissing off our trading partners, plus deporting and scaring off a lot of farm workers!
12
ChiefKC20 May 13, 2026 +9
Hate to tell you, this is just the start. Have a family member who works on the sourcing and commodity side of the food chain. He’s been right over the last few years on price increases. His projection is that Fall food costs will be 30-40% higher than today.

And the same brain damage as my dad — they’re even in complete denial Trump’s in the Epstein files
10
Low_Pickle_112 May 13, 2026 +5
I haven't talked to my mom for a while (not just because of the Trump thing but that sure ain't helping) and I can only imagine what her defense is these days. I would eat my shoe if she's noticed that he's not doing this because of how much he loves Jesus & the American people, I'm sure there's some fresh new justification.
5
revertothemiddle May 13, 2026 +20
I actually see this comment all over social media. It's their unironic talking point, as if a bunch of other assholes didn't already have nukes. The simple truth is that America was used to further Israel's revenge for 10/7 and we're all gonna pay for it.
20
What_a_fat_one May 13, 2026 +4
I don't even really give a shit if Iran has a nuke. North Korea has nukes, hasn't made my gas as expensive as Iran's lack of nukes.
4

The cheapest bag of coffee at my local grocer is 15.99. This time last year I could get that same store brand garbage for 5.99.

I don't buy chocolate anymore. Not the "chocolate" wax Reese's is made from now, though I don't buy that either. I mean those Lindt chocolate bars that you can get in different percentages of chocolate that used to be $2.50. They are now almost $6 at WinCo, one of the cheapest stores in my area.  I don't buy chips, I don't buy ice cream-we got a Ninja Creami on FB marketplace for $80 and make our own, usually from yogurt, protein drinks, and fruit. I have a Coke Zero habit but that's about to come to an end. Cereal, nope. Crackers, nope. Snacks in general, nope. We pretty much stick to veggies, eggs, rice, and meat, while we can still afford meat. Protein drinks. Cheese. Yogurt. Fruit. Coffee. It's been good for us, actually. The more prices go up, the more we cut all the bullshit that no one should be eating anyway. Maybe some of these big companies like Nestlé and Nabisco and shit will die due to inflation. Considering the damage they are doing, I think it's fitting. That said, I'm afraid of how dire this is really going to get, and I'm savoring cheese and coffee and meat because I know it may become out of reach. I keep an enormous food pantry and will continue to stock up. I'm planting fruit trees and berry bushes and learning to grow veggies as fast as a I can learn, knowing that nutrition could become very, very local somewhere in the near future if the people at the top are allowed to continue breaking everything in sight.

Fake news. Only dumb people would say that. Look. Look. The stock market is up to highest levels. I thought they would be worse, but they are not. Saudi Arabi said we had the hottest country. ....Joe Biden inflation blah blah.... More derision of reporters...Iran war almost over....blah blah.... We are so fucked.

The oil companies are saying real thanks now though, because they're getting rich at the expense of everyone else.

I was wondering why jalapeños at King Soopers went from $1.29/lb to $1.99/lb in three weeks. Still c**** because jalapeños are light (and delicious), but that was the main one that stuck out to me, anecdotally. I don’t believe groceries are on a 44% annualized inflation pace though, that would be higher than diesel and fertilizer, only two of the many cost inputs. I still hope the US ends its silly war in Iran sooner rather than later and we can see an end to these trends in 4-6 months.
4
7CTN594 May 13, 2026 +7
$1.29 to $1.99 is larger than 44% increase already
7
Rogue_AI_Construct May 13, 2026 +4
MAGA fucked themselves. Congrats on f****** up your own life. We. Warned. You.
4
tabrizzi May 13, 2026 +6
And prices went up by a lot. Examples: * Organic roma tomatoes that I used to buy for between $1.99 - $2.29/pound now sells for between $3.69 - $3.99/pound * Mackerel that used to go for $2.99/pound, now sells for just under $6/pound. But inflation has been defeated, right?

3
BasroilII May 13, 2026 +3
But...but...we didn't elect Harris because she was going to let the grocery prices still go up so she could focus on pronouns! Groceries still suck and we have people getting pulled off streets and put in camps, while we pay a madman billions of our tax dollars to build a ballroom. This is straight up Lous XVI shit.

Produce transport spot market prices are 20-100% higher this week due to DOT roadside inspection week. Up to 20% of trucks running spot freight are hanging up their keys this week to avoid inspections. Our commodity costs for the last 10 years + have been propped up by non domiciled or straight up illegal trucking operations. This administration thought it was a good idea to jack up fuel prices, import costs for machines, and the price of fertilizer (up almost 400% iirc since the start of the war)… all while cracking down on the drivers willing to work for c****. I’m all for driver regulations and keeping these driver jobs profitable and safe… but it’s a lot of stress on a system proven to be unstable during Covid.

I saw a statement, or comment, something from the Association of American Beef Producers, I forget the exact name, but they said for the first time ever, that beef products are now out of touch of lower income American's. When I was a kid, we were poor, but we always had hamburger chili mac, SOS, hamburgers on occasion. and tons of beef hot dogs. I remember in the early and mid 80s, just eating beef hot dogs out of the package with a slice of bread on the go, hundreds and hundreds of times. This was before chicken and pork hot dogs were sold in the stores. Kind of sad if you think about it.
